You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

WTH does furlough our children’s future even mean Hmm

MrsHamlet · 02/01/2021 22:31

We're going to pay them 80% of nothing to stay home and not work. Nathan already had that one nailed.

mumsneedwine · 02/01/2021 22:32

@MrsHamlet very much in the real world 😂😂. I worked in the City - so a v important job 🤪

Iamnotthe1 · 02/01/2021 22:33

You see, this is the rhetoric that frustrates me the most.

Will changing from face-to-face to remote only affect children's education? Yes.
Will it ruin their lives? No.

These claims of a "lost generation" and of "destroying life chances" are just so over the top.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 02/01/2021 22:35

mumsneed So sorry for that rude poster. (trying to not turn this into TAAT but they stooped low)

mumsneedwine · 02/01/2021 22:35

What will destroy their life chances is losing a parent. Or getting a long term illness themselves.

WherethebejesusisGav · 02/01/2021 22:36

My head is exploding about that mumsneed

What a dick.

MsAwesomeDragon · 02/01/2021 22:36

phleb your school are awful!!! I can't believe they sent that email and actually think it's ok!!!!!

I'm on team SFA as well. We were supposed to be doing inset on Monday, which I was going to use to plan for the rest of the week. Unfortunately, they've changed that plan, so now I'm supposed to be providing remote learning on Monday, and I've got nothing planned. That's tomorrow sorted then, I'm planning for teaching on Monday. Our inset has been moved to the 11th, when we're all (staff) going to be tested, and we're supposed to "just" set the kids something to get on with for that day, no live lessons. I do love last minute changes. We got told about this one on Friday afternoon.

mumsneedwine · 02/01/2021 22:36

@HercwasanEnemyofEducation ah thank you. I should have stayed away, but lost another colleague tonight and I'm so angry.

CallmeAngelina · 02/01/2021 22:38

The thing is, if we invoke a section 44, how long will it be for?
What needs to change before we return?

ChloeDecker · 02/01/2021 22:38

Oh mums I am so so sorry Flowers

JanuaryChill · 02/01/2021 22:39

From the Telegraph article - 'the NFER says schools won't have had time to resolve the IT resource problems'

What, you mean the ones the government said they were going to sort about 8 months ago??

Looks like Amanda Spielmann's written or at least been quoted at length on page 4, and there's an editorial.

SansaSnark · 02/01/2021 22:41

@mumsneedwine

What will destroy their life chances is losing a parent. Or getting a long term illness themselves.
This, so much.

Losing a parent is devastating for children/teens.

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2021 22:41

Bloody hell, I step away for a few hours and you’re 11 pages further on!!!

@SansaSnark you asked pages back about NEU and secondary return on 11th. I asked this in webinar but didn’t get answer today sad they were focused on primaries opening Monday. They said there would be a zoom call on Tuesday focusing on secondaries. Word on my NEU whatsapp is that essentially it will be the same - and that they will be pushing for remote to continue that week. But basically wait until Tuesday!

@HercwasanEnemyofEducation not too late to join NEU: they’ve had an unprecedented number of joiners apparently over the last week or so. Right now I would join I think.

starrynight19 · 02/01/2021 22:41

Oh mums so sorry i haven’t even seen the thread trying my best to keep away.
Some people will never listen no matter how loudly you shout.
But to lose a colleague, never mind another one is horrid Flowers

HeyBells · 02/01/2021 22:41

Delurking to say when I looked for the email from NASUWT I also found one about a regional meeting tomorrow by zoom, seems to be an opportunity to ask questions.

I'm starting my NQT year in year 5 on Monday so that's going to be more than enough for me to be thinking about tomorrow.

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2021 22:41

So sorry @mumsneedwine

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 02/01/2021 22:42

mums so so sorry Flowers

RigaBalsam · 02/01/2021 22:42

Mums Thanks

WherethebejesusisGav · 02/01/2021 22:43

There’s a lot to discuss. Main board is full of wankers.

JanuaryChill · 02/01/2021 22:46

UNISON advising all members in primary to send letter saying s44, available to WFH or supervise KW children only

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 02/01/2021 22:48

Right, I'm going to bed. I can't remember who gave the advice, but apparently wagon wheels are the best missiles to use in case of interlopers. Also, if the quality street tin is empty then that could do a fair bit of damage. Do not - I repeat DO NOT - let them find the gin. Night all 😴

MsAwesomeDragon · 02/01/2021 22:48

mumneeds I'm so sorry to hear about your colleague. Flowers

MrsHamlet · 02/01/2021 22:50

mumsneedwine · 02/01/2021 22:51

Been a bit of an evening. Lots to do tomorrow so off to bed. Hope no invaders tonight.
