You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Going crazy on main boards re the nurse and the Telegraph

Panickingpavlova · 01/01/2021 22:23

3 or 4 threads deleted now apparently the story doesn't stack up.

I'm worn out frothing with hyperbole but, I'm staggered.

RigaBalsam · 01/01/2021 22:24

Some posters will not like all the U turn phrases on tomorrows papers. Telegraph headline:
Teachers demand all schools stay closed.
Hmm

Achristmaspudsskidu · 01/01/2021 22:43

I don’t get why threads about the ward of children with covid are getting deleted?

Are people suggesting it’s lies?

RigaBalsam · 01/01/2021 22:46

Wasnt there similar from Kent online that was suggested?

noblegiraffe · 01/01/2021 22:46

Me and my stealth campaign again. Sorry folks. Who knew how powerful I was?

The media will be itching to blame us and the pesky unions for this.
Like we concocted this virus in the science labs at school.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/01/2021 22:51

Thanks January.

Hollow laughter at the idea we get to demand anything

TheHoneyBadger · 01/01/2021 22:57

This is all worrying.

Not sure if it's a mistake. Emailed the guy whose done the timetable (and who has redone all timetables to clearly mark ppa and under timetabled lessons so people who are light on teaching know when they can be used for cover) pretty much immediately after his email to point it out and ask for clarification but no reply.

He never replies btw it's not just a Covid thing

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 22:58

Grauniad have something like 'There is another way between "Schools open" and "Schools closed" '

"There goes noble again," I thought. "Now she's a ghost writer for left wing news outlets...."

Iamnotthe1 · 01/01/2021 23:04

That's really interesting because it doesn't seem like teachers or even schools had anything to do with it. It was the councils.

Piggywaspushed · 01/01/2021 23:07

Are people suggesting it’s lies?

Seems so ,and yet there has been so much fake news on this site often unchecked.

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 23:08

Thread including MNHQ's reasons for deleting the previous ones about the nurse's interview:

Poof - gone!! Another thread deleted www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4122804-Poof-gone-Another-thread-deleted

Also (not that far in) has interesting observations from an ex-paed nurse.

I imagine by tomorrow we'll have proof or otherwise of the interview's veracity.

Let's hope there are not** paediatric wards full of Covid patients.

RigaBalsam · 01/01/2021 23:08

Telegraph article is now deleted too.

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 23:09

Oh really?

Achristmaspudsskidu · 01/01/2021 23:18

I’m concerned about that story. Either the matron is totally made up which presumably could be verified pretty quickly from someone who can search for registered nurses and find where they work, or they are either being hounded by the press or now being told to shut the hell up by those higher up?

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 01/01/2021 23:20

Noble, piggy and some of you other posters are doing a mighty fine job of not going onto threads and shouting, ‘WE TOLD YOU SO’. Perhaps people really didn’t get it. It’s like watching a car crash in slow motion as realisation is hitting.

I know it’s understandable but it does sadden me that parents are finally reacting now but they couldn’t care less when it was ‘just’ the adults working in schools who were in danger.

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 23:25

Adrian Chiles needs to make a statement, he did the regional interview.

Frenchwindows · 01/01/2021 23:31

Are you all expected to do remote lessons from home next week or go in to teach remote and key worker/vulnerable at the same time?

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 23:31

There's certainly a nurse with that name on Fb, so she's not made up?

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 23:33

Teachers strongly encouraged to WFH. Support staff in on Monday and then plans to be made (presumably dependent on a) how many KW children we get and b) what on earth we're doing about testing!

SquashedFlyBiscuitsForSanta · 01/01/2021 23:37

Still tier 3 here. News reports that covid patients are being transferred to our local hospitals as we have capacity. New variant is obviously going to make it's way here and then our hospitals will already be full. Hope to god all schools are closed at least for the next 2 weeks so we can see what happens with hospitals. Feeling scared. Also feeling sad as DS loves school and is so happy this year. I also really love my bonkers class and will really miss them. Ds will be heartbroken if they close.

Cracklefraggle · 01/01/2021 23:37

All in Monday, don't yet know the plan from there.

Hercwasonasnowball · 01/01/2021 23:38

Still nothing from our SLT. I'm hoping this is because they're expecting another announcement so don't want to do too much. I fear they will dump a million jobs on us on Monday. I'm getting anxious about cover lessons online and parental expectations if they aren't live. Trainee arriving but no timetable as I don't even have mine confirmed (may change due to absence). Monday is going to be crazy.

hedgehogger1 · 01/01/2021 23:38

The telegraph article has just vanished. Surely if they doubted the veracity of the nurse they'd be better putting that in its place rather than just making it vanish. I've only just been sent it so am a bit behind. Just pasted it and it looks like it will be deleted
