You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Going on what people are saying here and on the PUAUS page, today's headline about the 8 yr old and the paed nurse talking about a ward full of child patients...

I think the government will realise what the "popular" decision is, and close all schools for two weeks. And then another two.

I hope so. We have made our decision now and are lucky that we can keep DD off - DH is a sahd and screw any fine. What a position to put parents in though Angry

That map is 5 days out of date too, so if like my village you've gone from 60/100,000 to 380/100,000 between 15th and 27th Dec, then probably things are pretty frucking dire right now! The number of people out and about has reduced over the last 4 or 5 days.

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 01/01/2021 21:36

bloody hell - the keep schools open at all costs will have something else to think about.

Maybe our vaccination programme needs a rethink and we need new groups. That could be the thinking behind the change about the second jab

Hi all. About to brave the telegraph article.

I've been put down for cover on Monday outside of my working hours. Interesting Hmm

PumpkinPie2016 · 01/01/2021 21:40

@Monkeytennis97 those figures are staggering Sad

I have a feeling that secondary will be online for longer than a week or two. I also think it may end up with primary schools going remote as well. Not ideal for anyone but with the figures, I'm not sure what else can be done.

I do think there are still too many people not following the rules. I know people are fed up but parents of kids in my son's class are posting pics of themselves meeting other families/having play dates/kids sleepovers etc. People visiting eachother in houses. Groups in the supermarket- not people who need support to shop, just families treating it as a bloody day out.

Reports in local news about NYE parties being stopped as well. I honestly don't know what goes through people's minds.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/01/2021 21:42

Sorry it's subscribers only. Can anyone please copy and paste?

A thread on the full children's' ward has juts been deleted because it's inflammatory and doesn't 'stack up'. Are MNHQ aware it's in the MSM?!?

I know I am talking about another thread here but the immediate minimising of the nurse's story is exactly what teachers are used to. Shout them down. Disbelieve. Dismiss. Using the same words as the Twitter deniers.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 01/01/2021 21:44

Honey is that just down to ignorance (they've forgotten) they surely can't think you're going to work unpaid?

Anyway, am watching the end of Dirty Dancing instead of being cross.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 01/01/2021 21:46

Erk, just done some proper looking, and the area where my school is in 750/100,000, the area next door is 1000/100,000.

I need to get home packs out for whoever turns up on Tuesday, then drive around with the rest on Tuesday after school I think.

There is an Alan Partridge thread on here tonight so I've been having a good chuckle with that... nice to take a break from the situation eh x
Piggywaspushed · 01/01/2021 21:51

Sure is!

That last 9 months have been like a constant battering ram.

DollyMixtureLulus · 01/01/2021 21:51

Anyway, am watching the end of Dirty Dancing instead of being cross.

Totally non related to anything else, but I only very recently worked out the lyrics to Hungry Eyes. I always thought it was 'one look at you and I kiss the sky,' which, now that I know the correct lyrics, really makes no sense.

Who says you can't learn anything during lockdown Confused

Piggywaspushed · 01/01/2021 21:53

I just found out that Patrick Swayze was 35 when he made that film and Jennifer 'Baby' Grey was 27!

Timeturnerplease · 01/01/2021 21:56

Reading that Telegraph article and other stuff in the media, it seems that a huge part of the NHS struggling is because they don’t hVe the staff and equipment they need, regardless of staff off isolating etc.

Schools are struggling to stay open in old, unventilated, crowded classrooms. Staff isolate and groups have to be sent home because we can’t pay cover costs (or cleaning for that matter).

It’s all linked to chronic underfunding, right?

Why haven’t the media (not Times or Telegraph, for obvious reasons) picked up on this more? Why haven’t the public put two and two together? Am I missing something?

TheHoneyBadger · 01/01/2021 21:57

Please can someone copy or screenshot the telegraph article? Is there genuinely a ward full of kids?

The cover is covering kw kids which I'm happy to do in my working hours but this is clearly blanked on my timetable as I finish an hour earlier. It's basically the only day where I don't have trapped time and meetings so I'm quite protective of it.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/01/2021 22:01

Public services are expected to be amazing no matter how underfunded and staff are seen as paid for by taxpayers so should be seen to jump through hoops and be willing to work 12 hours a day.

Shame there are such low expectations of politicians in contrast.

Monkeytennis97 · 01/01/2021 22:02

Anyone think the Torygraph are running it to spread fear therefore more acceptance of further school closures...?

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 22:03

Isn't it possible it's just a mistake honey?

The nurse was interviewed on 5 Live, go direct to that rather than Torygraph.

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 22:07
