You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I posted on that thread. I engaged with Us4Them. What was I thinking???

TheHoneyBadger · 22/12/2020 16:17

I've had a bath and washed my hair and put away the groceries. Ds and I just split a bag of reeses minis. Ds is a feeder. He knows I'm trying to lose weight but is all, 'go on! It's Christmas. You deserve it". Dodgy.

I'm trying not to think about school. Port helps.

Piggyinblankets · 22/12/2020 16:18

Bloody hell.

No Hot Water.

Someone hates me.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 22/12/2020 16:20

Bollocks. I forgot to buy port.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 22/12/2020 16:22

I am right in thinking that it is compulsory to eat cheese whilst drinking port, aren’t I?

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/22/plans-for-30-minute-covid-lateral-flow-tests-in-england-halted-over-accuracy-fears

"Deeks said the best thing the government could do with the 20m tests it had ordered was donate them to a poor country that did not have laboratory capacity to carry out the gold-standard swab tests. Their use as proposed by the government was “dangerous” and an “enormous waste of time and money”, he said."

Um.

This is the problem. I have a lot of cheese for one person. Gin and cheese isn't quite as good. Sigh.
DollyMixtureLulus · 22/12/2020 16:34

Woohoooo! It's the holidays!

countdowntonap · 22/12/2020 16:34

Just came on to see if anyone had posted the lateral flow test news from the Guardian. Knew I wouldn’t be the only one concerned about this.
Do you predict an update from the DfE before the end of the week?

noelgiraffe · 22/12/2020 16:37

As I posted on another thread, I think they discovered the tests were shit, halted the test centre plan, then announced the mass testing in schools plan.

They knew the tests were shit when they decided to dump them on schools. That explains why the mass testing announcement came on the Thursday, well after the other testing announcement.

WhenSheWasBad · 22/12/2020 16:37

Oh shit. Sorry to hear that.

How long till you get it fixed? Crap timing.

Yep. Bloody government.

Jinglingmod · 22/12/2020 16:40

Oh no, Piggy!

I've had my heating break at around this date twice in a decade (different properties) Sad.

I like the sound of your ds, Honey, and am lolling at your "dodgy" Grin.

Surely they have got to halt the ‘replace self-isolation with LFT’ in schools now?!
BustopherPonsonbyJones · 22/12/2020 16:42

@MrsChristmasHamlet
Everything goes with cheese. That’s the problem.
piggy, is it a boiler problem or someone else sneaking in a bath before you had yours?

The testing is all making sense now. Get rid of the dodgy tests in schools. Great.

BreadSaucery · 22/12/2020 16:45

Not your bastard boiler again, piggy?

I'm being thick - walk me through the supposed rationale behind this please?
Piggyinblankets · 22/12/2020 16:47

Yes the bastard boiler.

DH wants to know why the Spanish plumber we last had around approximately three years ago 'didn't fix it'...

I am not sure he understands the nature of things.

Piggyinblankets · 22/12/2020 16:48

Good news is plumber coming tomorrow at 10 am.

noelgiraffe · 22/12/2020 16:52

Gleaming The govt had a plan to convert test sites to lateral flow test sites over Christmas to cope with aim increase in demand due to Boris's Covid Bonanza.

Then word came out that the tests don't work and miss loads of positive cases.

The government now has 20 million tests on its hands that don't work.

The government surprise announces on Thursday that every secondary school kid in the country will be offered a couple of tests in the first week of Jan at new covid test sites that will be set up on school grounds over the Xmas holidays which comes as a total surprise to everyone.

Everyone says 'where are the tests going to come from hmm?'

And the government says 'we have 10 million tests ready to go'.

Guess which tests they are? The useless ones that couldn't possibly be used to test the general public. Good enough for schools though, because it will look like they're doing something.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 22/12/2020 16:55

Hooray for the plumber!
I could make do with gin and cheese but I might need emergency port just in case.
I might have bought two trifles today because I got the fear in Booths and then found a better one in Lidl. Booths let me down on frozen croissants so I got the ones in a tin and some cocoa pops
Foraging for port will be tomorrow's fun task.

GleamingBaubles · 22/12/2020 16:58

Thanks Noble.
It's the "appear to be doing something" that I hadn't got. I just don't see what it will achieve.

noelgiraffe · 22/12/2020 17:00

It's the whole 'reassure parent that schools are safe' thing. Even if the measures taken are shit.

Piggyinblankets · 22/12/2020 17:01

And, meanwhile... children and staff using these totally unreliable tests won't have to SI if they are a contact.

One of the positive cases at DS's school was completely asymptomatic. His mum got him tested (as we can here when we were tier 3) to check he was OK to visit relatives (moot point). Much to their surprise it came back positive.

GleamingBaubles · 22/12/2020 17:02

Is it just me, or does that strike anyone else as that is a really Scummings/Gove thing to think up....?
