You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@noelgiraffe

Ophelia possible, but how can you tell the difference? You have to treat a positive as a positive.
I know right. That's what I'm worried about. There's not much you can do, but because of the fact that there hasn't been any successful mass testing so far which could have caught the asymptomatic cases, then I fear students and teachers could be missing school without reason.

I suppose it would just be for the first 10 days though like you say because then you would maybe know no more testing for that individual for 3 months or something.

So perhaps this is just an overthink on my part @noelgiraffe. .... I am prone to a good overthink!!!

FiggyPuddingFiend · 22/12/2020 12:17

@OpheliasCrayon that occured to me too. I'm currently recovering from covid and the website is quite clear that I shouldn't participate in screening for 90 days after my positive test as I may still test positive whilst not being infectious. It is only 'may' though so maybe people who had it asymptomatically are less likely to test positive having recovered. Alternatively the first couple of weeks back at school will have a lot of students at home!

Eeek it's getting bun fighty on the cv board over primaries.

Who was poorly yesterday? (Sorry my memory is shit) have you had results back yet? Was it Harriet?

noelgiraffe · 22/12/2020 12:28

If you’re not on my fuck off Gav thread, you might still enjoy the private school heads union telling Gav to fuck off.

Ha! Brilliant!

Was it festive coloured gloop? I feel that makes a difference. If it's red, green, silver or gold you could legitimately just leave it as decor.

See this is why I like this board.

I've questioned how the testing would work - as in with regards to the 90 days of it still showing up...

Got a couple of answers...sorted

I'm in no doubt I would have had all manner of ridiculous replies if I'd tried it over there.

Here is sane.

It's snow coloured...

Apologies for the Fail link-it just caught my eye as it quoted MN

Which thread is this a screenshot from-it’s not on my watch list?

I'm bowing out of that thread.

It's like ground hog day.

On to making mince pies. May as well add to the snowy decor.

Piggyinblankets · 22/12/2020 13:07

Bah humbug.

I just came down form wrapping a load of at gifts for the family to a huge pair of boxes from Harrods.

I ahve NO idea who it is from!! I suspect BIL who sends presents online (he is in US) at which point I always think SHIT as I never get for them.

Thing is , I don't want a SINGLE thing in it and I bet it was expensive.

Wish i could distribute it around you guys!!

Piggyinblankets · 22/12/2020 13:07

The crossed out word above was tat

I feel awful about the presents I have bought people this year.

Piggyinblankets · 22/12/2020 13:09

The biggest joke on the whole of MN is that the coronavirus board appears in 'health'.

I’m getting a bit emotional at the fact that everyone in education is standing up against the government in this.

DreamingofBrie · 22/12/2020 13:26

That DM article..... those photos! Not a single one of my classrooms looks like that!

Leave it.

In fact If you have some glitter chuck that over it and there you go... Jingling all the way until Christmas.

I was thinking of doing something meaningful with my eldest this afternoon but I'm going to stick her in front of a disney film and do some work.

As of tomorrow little one is at home as she's finishing nursery today for Christmas so... No more opportunities for some quiet work in the day will all have to be done in the evening...

Disney is fine right ?

DecemberStar · 22/12/2020 13:33

It occurs to me that an "easy" way for the govt to back down on the testing plans issue is to close schools.

Yes of course that would be cutting off their nose to spite their face, and it may be the only option anyway in 10 days' time, but.....

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 22/12/2020 13:39

Well we are officially on holiday here. Very slight whoohoo though, just have my mind on what had to happen when we go back.

DecemberStar · 22/12/2020 13:40

If even Priti Patel (who seemed to be very much parroting the old stuff when I caught a bit of her on R4, tbh) is using phrases like "eventually go back", things ain't looking good for 11 Jan return.

I love the way the journo frames it as "parents taking to Mumsnet" - we're already here thanks. And doesn't know what DC stands for!

I'm still waiting for mine. But only had the test yesterday morning.

God, I feel horrible. Still not dressed. Have stomach pain & general feeling of weirdness now to go with the breathlessness & fever.

Might just be a viral thing (or could be THE viral thing!!) There's absolutely no way I caught whatever this is from anywhere other than school. Or from my DC who have been at school. We haven't been anywhere else Sad

Still, I have lots of chocolate from the children and The Crown to catch up on in between catnaps.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/12/2020 13:44

Panic in my house... I printed out a picture of Gregg Wallace with his chest out as part of a Christmas card for partner, now I can't find the picture. Someone is going to wonder what on earth is going on when they find that.

Achristmaspudsskidu · 22/12/2020 13:45

I wish someone in the press would mention the schools that start back-with all children-on January 4th. There seems to be a feeling that’s there are staggered starts being implemented so things are sorted, and the government have until the 11th before they need to make a plan?!

DecemberStar · 22/12/2020 13:45
