You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I know. The fury on twitter from usually fairly restrained types has been something to behold.

What are they going to do? I sadly saw a retweet of some webinar for headteachers to brainstorm how to implement it. Something about ‘be cross today and productive tomorrow’.

I want them to just flat out refuse. What with the govt do, threaten them with court again?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/12/2020 00:30

Rock and hard place.

Don't do it- media villifies teachers further.
Do it- gov message us that it's a success, and theyll lump more on schools.

Come on Geoff!

The Thirty-Third Republic - End of term and DfE threats- cheers all!
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/12/2020 00:41

I feel like I should have something from the NEU on this. Nothing yet.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/12/2020 00:45

Don't do it and tell the parents test kits can be collected on Monday the 4th if they want to test their children and years 7,8,9,10 and 12 will be welcome back on the 11th.

It's too much, too much money, too much time, too logistically insane and too much risk of pushing staff over the edge.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/12/2020 00:46

Nothing from nasuwt either

TheHoneyBadger · 18/12/2020 00:48

Did it I'm going to go get a night cap. Between this madness and what if tests come back positive thoughts I'm not feeling very sleepy and don't have to be up early early.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/12/2020 00:48

Sod! Why is my auto correct so bloody censorious

PumpkinPie2016 · 18/12/2020 05:56

Last day has arrived Xmas GrinGlitterball

Only in until 12

Despite the madness over testing and staggered starts, I am relieved to have made it to the end of term and I am determind to have a decent break over the holidays!

If you're finishing today, enjoy your last day!

I know we don’t need any more proof that JRM is a cunt, but here we are. And I have absolutely no catholic guilt about using that term.

Perhaps if our government were more interested in ‘playing politics’ and less interested in bunging money to their mates then we wouldn’t need UNICEF to be stepping in.

So very much this.
Piggyinblankets · 18/12/2020 06:24

Morning all. Remote teaching for me today.

A lot of sympathy for heads. I see it, I do. But I never feel like boots on the ground get the same level of concern.

Disclaimer : my views are affected by my SLT being a small scale approximation of the DfE .

plasticboxesrock · 18/12/2020 06:25

Last day for me.
Just reading the thread about testing plan. Also reading Govt info on it.
Oh my, what a delusional bunch of gaslighting twats in charge we have. You could honestly not make this shit up. I have no words for the level of fuckwittery the DfE have come out with on so many occasions.

NO way am I swabbing my primary lot. This might be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

BTW any other TAs here, are you in a union, if so which one? Teachers: how did you choose between, and do you have TA colleagues in your unions?

Piggyinblankets · 18/12/2020 06:34

Quite a few of our TAs are in teaching unions, and the others are Unison, I believe.

I have a question about the education Select Committee. The MP was obviously on the ball about implications for school workload and said it had 'come up many times before'. What difference can a select committee actually make?

FiggyPuddingFiend · 18/12/2020 06:45

I'm in NASUWT - I was in both as a trainee and had to pick one to help with an issue and they helped me so I stuck with them. I think a lot of support staff at our school are in the NEU, there are 2 NEU reps on staff - one teacher and one support staff member, members of the NEU can speak to either but they recommend you speak to the matching one as they are more experienced in your area of work.

My school, us TAs are in unison. I went with what others are in so might be worth asking around.
PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 18/12/2020 07:14

You need to see SKY news now.
Nick Gibb has just said Teachers will NOT be doing the tests.

SaltyAF · 18/12/2020 07:16

R4 now

BreadSaucery · 18/12/2020 07:21

Unison for me, plasticboxes but they are useless. I say that as an ex workplace rep too (not in schools). Seems a lot of high-minded Leftism and not much actual having the backs of their members. Goes against the grain for me not to have union membership in a job but only inertia is stopping me cancelling the direct debit and emailing them to say it’s because I feel so let down and unsupported.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 18/12/2020 07:22

I've finished thank god. Painful feet returned with this last period, cheers peri. Two blissful months without it.

There will be some ructions today among most staff after something that was proposed to do with online learning that I think does break gdpr or at least privacy. As have most things with online learning involving videos tbh.

No one has twigged at all about this testing malarkey. We will not be able to physically test most children. Some days in some classes it's a win if you're not kicked or manage to get a child to comply to something or even just managed to keep them happy for short periods. We have parents asking for help with eating and taking medicine as it is. If the tests were spit based, maybe.

It's been sweet seeing their reactions to Santa this week though. They all believe still up to Yr 6! Good luck with today all, hope you survive intact!

BreadSaucery · 18/12/2020 07:26

Have as lovely Christmas break as you can, Neuro . Peri-aches suck, even without the added frisson of wondering if it’s Covid-ache instead.

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 18/12/2020 07:29

That’s interesting PussyCatInChristmasStockings!
Another lie maybe? We shall soon find out.

Morning all. Last day! See you at the other end Xmas Grin

plasticboxesrock · 18/12/2020 07:35

thanks folks.

Best wishes to you all today. We've got "behave yourselves and don't kill granny over the hols" Zoom assembly, then Christmas play your own games, Christmas dinner and bubble parties.......

MrsHercYulePoirot · 18/12/2020 07:36

Most at our school NEU because that’s what most teachers are. I’m on of the reps and send out nice emails and lots this term have joined as they’ve had more and more shit thrown at them...

Danglingmod · 18/12/2020 07:39

We have no union reps in my school and I don't even know if all teachers are in a Union, let alone any if the support staff.

Those of us that are are just in in case of accusations from kids. None of us are very "militant" - in normal times Hmm.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 18/12/2020 07:46

R4 was good. She explained the batshittery well.

Thanks saucery you too!

It's definitely peri, the fucker. When I'm like this, any small walk leaves my feet aching. So a few days pounding the corridor even in trainers is tough!
