You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I see what you mean about the NAHT's response but any member of the public and many politicians surely wouldn't have a clue what they were referring to? You have to know that and even then read between the lines.

I think that, for this one, you need to see the Heads' facial expressions too!

@namechangedyetagain, dose yourself up on paracetamol. Sorry you've had to cancel your Christmas plans with your family. Hope you're feeling better soon Flowers.

Well done Fleur - if only she could take over from Gavin.

@noelgiraffe - you made my evening sharing that link

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 17/12/2020 22:01

Yes I mean Meg

AllDoneIn · 17/12/2020 22:21

Limping to the finish line. You couldn't make this shit up. I just had two gins and unwisely engaged on an AIBU thread about closing schools. Full of magical thinkers chanting 'schools must stay open', which I now picture Animal Farm style. I'm going to turn the computer off so I don't engage further.

Hang in there everyone Flowers Gin

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

Came home wondering why on earth some children are so damn rude and entitled.

@DreamingofBrie we had the exact same conversation after school today. I've actually allowed myself to feel hurt about the response to Xmas presents this year. First the pack of cards debacle, then today an Xmas pencil for prizes in games at the party. Made sure they all got a pencil. Out of 20 kids, none said thanks.. not one. 1 snatched it so forcefully that he bent my little finger back, 9 complained that they wanted a different topper/rubber thing and would I swap it (3 cried when I couldn't), 2 asked for an extra pencil. Two went and drank squash without being told they could, 3 helped themselves to a second one meaning other kids missed out.

They are fucking me right off. Maths (that I can bin without marking), reading, spelling, times tables and pshe tomorrow. And a lecture about politeness being free.

Am going to get them to look up entitled in the dictionary too, then write sentences using it. Screw Christmas 'magic'.

I have a very entitled class this year (in fact a lot of the cohort is) and I think that's making it harder. Didnt have presents this year as not allowed but cant say I'm upset as not sure they'd appreciate it.

Half a day tomorrow and I'll be counting the minutes as I'm done and have been since Mon.

Has that made it into public domain yet? Wish their statement was a bit more direct!
SansaSnark · 17/12/2020 23:12

Honestly I think we are past the letter writing stage, although I do agree with everything the NEU have said in theirs.

TheHoneyBadger · 17/12/2020 23:26

Liking Meg. Susan is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Why did it need pointing out to them that schools can't work with Friday night announcements for implementation on Monday? And why is she so proud of the fact that they've done less of that lately?

There was no rapid change. Rates have been rocketing in schools for ages and it doesn't actually require a whole separate testing model when we've spent billions on testing. Young people should be able to access testing like everyone else not need rushed through non funded, non staffed testing in schools.

Beyond ridiculous and that Susan sat umming and ahhing and looking at the ceiling squirming as the person in charge faced with straightforward essential questions says it all.

noelgiraffe · 17/12/2020 23:26

Lewis Goodall thread about how shit this all is. twitter.com/lewis_goodall/status/1339601013926346759?s=21

Points out that setting up mass testing in Liverpool took weeks and loads of support and heads have one day of term and no support.

noelgiraffe · 17/12/2020 23:27

Susan sat umming and ahhing and looking at the ceiling squirming

It shouldn't have been her in that chair, it should have been Gav. With his 'written statement' to parliament today instead of a speech, he has dodged any scrutiny. Parliament now closed for Christmas (lazy workshy etc etc).

TheHoneyBadger · 17/12/2020 23:27

Bit ranty and preaching to the choir sorry. Hopefully you're all getting some sleep

DecemberStar · 17/12/2020 23:28

In a little bit honey.

Oo, I've now finished for the term....

noelgiraffe · 17/12/2020 23:29

I'm printing out Pirate Game for Y9. Fuck it if it's not maths.

TheHoneyBadger · 17/12/2020 23:29

Why do they have so many holidays when they're meant to run the country? Even during an international emergency!

TheHoneyBadger · 17/12/2020 23:33

Don't know how you cope with staying up this late on school nights.

I know we don’t need any more proof that JRM is a cunt, but here we are. And I have absolutely no catholic guilt about using that term.

Perhaps if our government were more interested in ‘playing politics’ and less interested in bunging money to their mates then we wouldn’t need UNICEF to be stepping in.

I just had two gins and unwisely engaged on an AIBU thread about closing schools.

Now deleted. Worth doing an AS on the OP before entering a schools thread on AIBU.

DreamingofBrie · 17/12/2020 23:56

I know there's a lot on Twitter tonight, but I did enjoy reading this thread!

Tell me it's too late for a drink. Or don't because you should be sleeping 💤

noelgiraffe · 18/12/2020 00:12

It's too late for a drink Honey. It's too late to get the benefit!

Tom Sherrington too. Bit like the head boy calling the headteacher shit.
