You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@monkeytennis97 That must be so hard for you. I’m so pleased his test was negative.

borntobequiet · 26/11/2020 19:55

@RigaBalsam

Wow someone asked the question about schools. He said no exams, social justice etc!
Does anyone know who asked the question? (Yes I suppose I could watch it myself but BJ gives me the rage.)
CarrieBlue · 26/11/2020 20:30

@monkeytennis97 😢😘

SmileEachDay · 26/11/2020 20:32

Hey. Will catch up.

We now have 3/4 of Y7, half of Y8 and about 25% of Y9 isolating. Just got email that one of my Y11s is positive.

I’m not sure how much longer I can do this for?

Augustbreeze · 26/11/2020 21:05

It's all fine @SmileEachDay, schools are "open"....

CallmeAngelina · 26/11/2020 21:07

@Augustbreeze

It's all fine *@SmileEachDay*, schools are "open"....
Yeah, and according to a whole load of lay people, "Education is important." Who knew? Certainly not us teachers.
Loshad · 26/11/2020 21:21

We are still a covid pit. It’s rolling around from year to year ( but oddly missing y9 sadly who are a very difficult year group and i would be happy to be down a few self isolating ) Rumours from kids that we are up to 8 positive cases in y11, still open 😳 several staff quite unwell with it, teams has become a joe as the kids unmute themselves as fast as you can mute them

Loshad · 26/11/2020 21:22

Not a joe, a joke

Mistressiggi · 26/11/2020 21:40

Marking place as I thought I'd lost you

winewolfhowls · 26/11/2020 21:43

Flowers monkey, it's all so shit

PumpkinPie2016 · 26/11/2020 21:53

@monkeytennis97 it must be so, so hard for youFlowers keeping everything crossed that you get to see your DS soonFlowers

TheHoneyBadger · 26/11/2020 22:00

I can feel how tired you all are.

With year 8 and 9 still out next week I've got a quiet time of it for a while.

Need to try and get home sorted after being too knackered since going back to work. Started clearing out some broken drawers today and need to finish up and get them out of the house ready for the tip and to make room for new ones.

Quite nice to do mundane physical work. May tackle ds clothes next and get rid of what he's grown out of so there's hope of keeping his cupboards tidy. Made him clear all the rubbish out of his room today. Teenagers are gross.

Augustbreeze · 26/11/2020 22:11

Ha noble, someone's continued your thread linking the DfE's comment! (New fan girl maybe :-) )

Danglingmod · 26/11/2020 22:22

So, ECV staff due back in schools (and other workplaces) next week? Even if case numbers are higher than before the lockdown, as they are in my area?

Piggywaspushed · 26/11/2020 22:23

That was actually the original OP of that thread august!

See what you did? You assumed noble started a schools are fucked threadGrin

Flowerblue · 26/11/2020 22:29

I’m not sure I can do this much longer. One the one hand I am being asked to do activities in primary where it is impossible to social distance. On the other hand we are being sent emails about the vital importance of distancing and how it’s our fault if children have to then isolate. Ffs

Augustbreeze · 26/11/2020 22:33

@Flowerblue can you point this out to your Head?

Oops, piggy, far be it from me to tar noble noble with more brushes than are strictly necessary!!!!! 😂 🤣

TheHoneyBadger · 26/11/2020 22:39

Presumably. We were tier 1 with pubs et al open before lockdown now tier 2. Interesting. To my mind that means that even when everything else is closed schools are driving up community spread unsustainably.

That's just logic though which is very out of fashion lately.

Hope everyone gets a decent sleep. And remember it's Friday tomorrow and general well done to all.

I shall be cracking the whip getting ds up and on it with remote learning in the morning then heading into work for one lesson. All of my other classes are out.

Flowerblue · 26/11/2020 22:42

@Augustbreeze I think I’m going to have to. It’s so illogical. They’ve just not thought it through.

WhyNotMe40 · 26/11/2020 22:43

I think I'm losing my mental balance.
I was supposed to be very part time (for mental health reasons) but I'm covering for colleagues nearly full time.
I'm exhausted, can't sleep, alcohol consumption creeping up, and the house is turning to shit around me.

MrsHerculePoirot · 26/11/2020 23:18

@WhyNotMe40 can you drop back down and stop covering? You’ve got to look after yourself.

One schools thread not started by me, and that’s the one the DfE decide to grace with their presence. I feel snubbed.

noblegiraffe · 27/11/2020 00:35

Sorry to everyone feeling like shit. Take care of yourselves Flowers

DreamingofBrie · 27/11/2020 01:14

It's nearly the weekend!

Fingers crossed you get to see your ds soon, monkeytennis. And gin and cake for everyone who needs it.

I did my first classroom/Teams combined lesson yesterday, as half of the class are isolating. It went ok - organised a Teams call for the children isolating and one child in the classroom. She unmuted her device and I shared my desktop. They are all working on OneNote anyway, which helps. Apart from a few sound issues the isolating children seemed to appreciate it.

I've ordered a Bluetooth headset/mic which clips around my ear, for £11. Going to control audio from my phone tomorrow and share from my desktop. Wish me luck!

I feel like this a bit although I'm secondary. My feeling is that SLT just want to be able to say we are not a close contact if a child tests positive.
