You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

OK, everyone : swearing outburst.

FOR FUCK'S SAKE

FUCK BASTARD WANK POO

My boiler has now broken down.

If I was WFH or on furlough I could hang around waiting for a plumber...

RobertsUncle · 25/11/2020 19:45

What is this dfe post?

CountDuckulasKetchup · 25/11/2020 19:49

Rule, you want a tablet / pen combo. Got the one recommended on here and it's ace. Xpen. Can't post the link as I've forgotten my amazon password but hopefully someone with a better brain will be along soon to be more than vaguely helpful.

MsAwesomeDragon · 25/11/2020 19:53

Checking in. Thanks for the new thread staff.

Thanks to all of you who shared experiences of depression, both first hand and of supporting loved ones through it. Honey I think you said I need to make sure I don't do too much as she's the person who needs to work though it, and that sounds like great advice. I can't really do too much as I'm obviously busy with other things a lot of the time anyway, and the uni last time we very clear that it needs to be her that contacts then as she's an adult. I can be part of the conversation but she needs to be a bigger part. I can find and pay for a therapist but she needs to engage with it for herself. I'm just trying to get as far as the weekend at the minute.

starrynight19 · 25/11/2020 19:56

Wow at the DFE post. Surely posted on purpose right at the end of the thread.

Saucery · 25/11/2020 19:59

Ah bugger, piggy. Just what you need. Hope it’s something easy to replace like a diaphragm (ours goes through those like nobody’s business). Real pita to organise a repair with a non-negotiable hours job though.

Piggywaspushed · 25/11/2020 20:01

I think the bastard is leaking...

Meanwhile, let us all remember 'teaching remains a very attractive career'

WhenSheWasBad · 25/11/2020 20:01

So glad there’s a new thread.

God I hate year nine so much. Obviously there’s loads of lovely kids. But there is a high number of arseholes in there that is currently making my life (and others) a living hell.

Frlrlrubert · 25/11/2020 20:02

Checking in! Thanks for the new thread Staff.

I taught almost a whole lesson sat down today other than writing a couple of equations on the board. I feel like I'm running out of steam. I usually move around a lot even if I stay at the front.

Graph lessons with two year seven groups today. Hard going as always. I'm determined to get them there though, even if it kills me.

WhyNotMe40 · 25/11/2020 20:05

Year 9s are always hard work. Our current cohort has some proper arseholes in it as well - more than usual. And keeping them cooped up in their "zone* isn't helping either - they can't let off steam running around or on the field/AstroTurf as usual.

RobertsUncle · 25/11/2020 20:12

Wow. Shocking. Thanks for the link and thanks for the new thread. Fingers crossed for resurrection of the boiler piggy.

sakura06 · 25/11/2020 20:20

Not posted yet, but just wanted to say that online marking can get in the bin! Angry Why does it take so long?!

Flabbergasted at that DfE post! Wow.

Lots of best wishes to all in these mad times.

monkeytennis97 · 25/11/2020 20:27

I told (had a rant) at a certain year groupHmm today how they were lucky to still have teachers willing to come in to school despite the risks and listed the countries where there is full online learning and they should appreciate the time they have in school. It actually worked!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/11/2020 20:27

No concept from HT that 'just' putting work up for isolating kids is not just a 2 minute job. And still the expectation to catch up the kids, and do performance management meetings and observations, as well as book scrutinites too.

And a 'do as I say not as I do' message about not crossing bubbles, when they themselves decided that the supply teaching fella that had been in y6 in the morning could also go down and cover a y3 class in the afternoon. While telling us all not to even step in each others' classrooms when the kids aren't even there.

DreamingofBrie · 25/11/2020 20:32

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot, it was me!

Piggywaspushed · 25/11/2020 20:32

Today I have a really sore throat. Achy but nothing else. Have to see how that goes, I guess.

TheHoneyBadger · 25/11/2020 20:35

Thanks staff.

Bollocks about the boiler fingers crossed it magically starts working again like the dishwasher.

I'm glued to my sofa classily drinking lager out of a can. This term is not helping my diet. Excuse the sexism but lately it feels like everyone has pmt and could take an innocent email to be a personal attack or be ready to burst into tears or snap or skulk in a corner seething or be hit with rabid paranoia at work.

I've mostly been going for paranoia and using mn to vent resentment.

It's a fucking marvellous year and it's not over yet.

No work tomorrow and need to get into all of ds emails and google classrooms to locate where his teachers have put work as I'm told there's work up now and then get him doing at least a few hours worth.

Could someone please bring me another beer and take the dog out for a walk?

Oh and ha ha bloody ha at dfe insulting mn'ers intelligence with copy and paste misproven propaganda without the slightest hint of humanity or compassion. If they have a pr department they need sacking along with some mother's do have 'em dude.

Frlrlrubert · 25/11/2020 20:37

My big year nine class is surprisingly well behaved. I'm really not sure why, but I'm dreading any set changes that will upset the magical balance.

Year 10 are our arseholes at the moment. Though I've got a nice group there as well - I've had them since year nine and we get along very well now. There will definitely be set changes at Christmas for them because all the other groups are a nightmare, I just hope none of the proper knobs score well enough to end up in my group, and that if the do I can swap them for my chatty (but currently controlled) ones so I can keep the 'atmosphere' and hopefully stay in control. And I really hope that they don't decide to totally swap staff - that group are the only thing keeping me going some days!

But I also really feel for our NQT who has bottom set year ten. I had those kids in year 8 when I was and I was an NQT and they nearly did me in.

Sad
HerdyGerdy · 25/11/2020 20:42

God Piggy that’s sad.

This, however, is another solid example of data manipulation:
On Tuesday, the government recorded another 608 UK deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid test.
So those dying after 28 days aren’t counted? Think I’m too tired to feel outraged or frustrated. Another day, another manipulation.

monkeytennis97 · 25/11/2020 20:43

@Piggywaspushed heartbreaking. Rest In Peace beautiful Fehzan.

CallmeAngelina · 25/11/2020 20:44

Poor little boy.
Poor family. Sad

TheHoneyBadger · 25/11/2020 20:46

My year 9s are mostly ok this year. My year 10s are cheeky and difficult to settle but really quite amusing with it. Also bizarrely they are really grateful for me saying I'm going to keep my lessons simple and use textbooks more.

Maybe all those bells and whistles are just distracting sometimes. A read a bit, discuss a bit, do some tasks then discuss what we've done approach seems more their cup of tea which suits me too by last period on a Wednesday. They even volunteer to read aloud.

Sorry. I have no one to bore with my work talk in real life so tend to pour it out on here.
