You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Those huge blanket scarves must be good as coverings for legs in classrooms.

GravityFalls · 05/12/2020 19:39

I love my blanket scarf at work!

Thermal tights are AMAZING and I’m a massive convert - you can get them for about £4 and as they’re very thick they’re super robust, more like leggings really so should last a while. I’m wearing a long sleeved thermal top under most things too, and a cardigan, and I have a “work hoody” too.

DollyMixtureLulus · 05/12/2020 19:51

I feel the cold dreadfully so always had a classroom cardigan. I've upgraded now to a cardigan, light down jacket (Uniqlo) and blanket scarf which can all be layered.

The Uniqlo fleece lined leggings are great, and they're not bulky. Just look like very dark opaques. Mango also were doing a really good line of thermals.

Danglingmod · 05/12/2020 20:10

Why is your PE dept not teaching at the moment??

Hercwasonaroll · 05/12/2020 20:16

I wondered about the PE dept too....

Ours are the only non frazzled looking people in the building. I'll say no more.

Timeturnerplease · 05/12/2020 20:35

Hi all, am just out of a HORRENDOUS two weeks self isolation thanks to a child in my class (primary) testing positive. SO much harder than just being in school teaching.

I hear from colleagues that it has become absolutely bitterly cold in school - I hope you are all surviving. I have my skiing thermals ready for Monday!

MrsHamlet · 05/12/2020 20:41

@Danglingmod

Why is your PE dept not teaching at the moment??
Because they've culled it from ks4 completely, except for dance and sports studies. We were already over staffed in PE so they've been put on cover. But we've got weirdly low staff sickness (which I'm putting down to the fact that the people who normally call in for a stubbed toe are expected to teach online now) so the PE dept have loads of free time. They normally teach less anyway because of fixtures - but we're not doing fixtures either.
Hercwasonaroll · 05/12/2020 20:43

MrsH Are they allowed to cull it? I thought it was the only subject that was statutory?

Must be a shit life for them really with permanent cover. Doesn't help staff relations either when there's such a work load disparity.

MrsHamlet · 05/12/2020 20:50

I don't know but they have 🤷‍♀️ KS3 still have one lesson a week but that's it.
It would be terrible if there was any cover - but last week I think there were about 30 cover lessons all week. We have a 30 period week and 3 full time cover supervisors + 2 permanent supply staff so most of the week the people with bonus frees sit about...

Danglingmod · 05/12/2020 21:03

Oh my goodness! That's crazy.

Ours still have 1 lesson in Ks4 and 2 in ks3. PE also don't get extra frees for fixtures in normal times - I think the pay off is no marking (unless they have a theory exam group)!

Time for next thread

Hercwasonaroll · 05/12/2020 21:05

Ours get no time for fixtures either as it's accepted they have no marking. Aside from GCSE PE and Btec sport. Those teachers don't do so many fixtures. Your school is dreamy for PE staff!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_staffroom/4098838-The-Thirty-Second-Republic-Christmas-count-down-end-of-term-in-sight?watched=1

Our PE staff are keeping a low profile. They know they have had it easier since March and certainly did not have the hectic Teams lessons as per the rest of us.

OP posts:
Danglingmod · 05/12/2020 21:17

No, during lockdown they definitely had it much easier.

RigaBalsam · 05/12/2020 21:19

@Mistressiggi

It's actually great not to have to bother telling them off for not taking their jacket off. I wasted so much time on this.
We still have to. Its a really stressful argument to have every lesson.
WhyNotMe40 · 05/12/2020 21:28

Ok I'm pissed and angry and fed up and at the end of my tether and I need to step away from rising to Clav's baiting.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 05/12/2020 21:39

Honestly - often it is not worth being on school threads outside of the staffroom.

Keyboards warriors just keep with the same old same old. No real understanding of what really goes on in schools and quite frankly if they are not at the coalface how can they ever have first-hand experience.

I know, I know. I'm going to watch an old episode of Buffy and have a cup of chamomile. Much better idea 😘
