You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

DR Madeline so sorry ThanksThanksThanks

TheHoneyBadger · 05/12/2020 06:49

Sorry drM. Hope you and your partner are doing ok.

I woke up at 4am. Seem to be having the weird dreams again. This time ds and I were living with my parents and weren't allowed pets but I'd somehow acquired about 6 kittens of improbable colours and 10 chickens that I was trying to hide but kept popping up and I was having to run around hiding them and constantly on the look out 👀

Guessing it's work related. I often say our job is like herding cats.

TheHoneyBadger · 05/12/2020 08:07

I feel I should give the living room a really good tidy and clean before getting the Christmas decorations out of the attic. Can someone please send energy? My legs are achy from 2 gym days in a row after a month out and laying in bed drinking coffee knowing it's the weekend is heavenly.

I have marking to do but I'm ignoring it.

namechangedyetagain · 05/12/2020 08:08

Snow! I can't even think about Christmas until I finish on Friday, though I will be writing out cards for my class so that they can go into quarantine on Monday. This weekend I only have work planned. Just need the oomph to get out of bed to do it !!!

WhenSheWasBad · 05/12/2020 08:12

DrMadelineMaxwell so sorry for you and your family. Must have been a horrible shock.

Sending some energy to TheHoneyBadger get those decorations up. I’m looking at my Xmas tree right now - somehow it’s quite soothing.

I think behaviour in our school is getting worse. 11s and 10s seem to be ok.

Year 7s have started being a pain in the bum. Very noisy, some are rude and are very reluctant to put pen to paper. I’m ahead so I decided to give them a “fun lesson”. Most of the kids cracked on and really enjoyed the tasks.
A few just sat there making silly comments to their mates.

Year 8s seem to be slowly mutating into year 9s (thankfully my classes are lovely but other staff members are starting my to have issues).

And then there is the hell that is year 9. My class are so behind. I’m teaching them the same topics as year 7 & 8 but they just don’t get it.
Really closed minds, just keep saying I don’t get it. I’m kind of at a loss for how to make it simpler. Their behaviour is shocking too. Plus Covid is rife in that classroom, so random pockets of kids keep self isolating. I never have more than 2/3rds in at any one time.

I’ll have to give them a test at the end of this topic. I already know they will do appallingly, a mix of them not being there, reluctance to engage and put in any effort and shocking behaviour means I can’t get through the content. So we are stuck at the basics (which most of them are still struggling with).

Piggywaspushed · 05/12/2020 08:40

Much worse in our school too. It had been good at the beginning of the year.

Really, our situation is entirely down to SLT being in almost continuous hiding.

I just read of a schol that has had 50 cases in the last three weeks and they are still only isolating close contacts.

SaltyAF · 05/12/2020 08:42

Sorry to read thatn@DrMadelineMaxwell.

DreamingofBrie · 05/12/2020 08:44

I'm so sorry, DrMadelaineMaxwell. Look after yourselves. A bereavement is so difficult and especially at this time of this year Flowers.

UnMumsnetty hugs to everyone. We're nearly there.

CallmeAngelina · 05/12/2020 09:23

@DrMadelineMaxwell Such shocking news for you all. So sorry. Thanks

WhenSheWasBad · 05/12/2020 10:10

Our SLT aren’t out and about much. I’m sure they are working their arses off. Dealing with Covid cases (we’ve had quite a number, staff and pupils). Also dealing with behaviour issues.
I’d never accuse our SLT of not working hard, they definitely are. But they really aren’t very visible at the moment.

Frlrlrubert · 05/12/2020 10:37

Sorry for your loss DrM Thanks

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/12/2020 10:56
