You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Well, it’s my 10th wedding anniversary today! Who’d have thought I’d be celebrating it as a Covid ridden mess!? Grin

I am sooooo planning a big celebration next year!

Piggywaspushed · 04/12/2020 16:45

Whole of year 10 sent home at DH's school. Several cases. that's them got a nice long holiday now.

I must say most of the schools I know of round my way sending home whole year groups and having multiple cases are the private schools.

Appuskidu · 04/12/2020 17:13

Well, it’s always nice, after a truly shit week at work, to find three separate posts moaning about teachers. Why do some people really really seem to hate us?

Happy weekend everyone-enjoy the downtime FlowersBrewFlowersWineFlowersCake

Piggywaspushed · 04/12/2020 17:26

Teacher and school threads are superabundant that's for sure.

Mistressiggi · 04/12/2020 17:39

It's annoying me that some parents in dc's school are talking about taking them out in the last week of term to leave more days before seeing family, when we have been told by the scottish government that parents need us to stay open when they rejected the calls to close on the 18th.

Piggywaspushed · 04/12/2020 17:46

So It appears a 15 year old with no underlying conditions has died.

PumpkinPie2016 · 04/12/2020 17:58

@Piggywaspushed that's so sad Sad

Very glad it's Friday! Forced myself to do the shopping after school so I don't have to go tomorrow.

2 more weeks to go and lots of content to get through in that timeConfused so not really any let up at the moment!

monkeytennis97 · 04/12/2020 18:04

@Piggywaspushed Sad so awful.

Happy weekend everyone!ThanksWineCake

Hercwasonaroll · 04/12/2020 18:05

piggy that's awful.

Still the MN faithful insist kids don't get it....

Frlrlrubert · 04/12/2020 18:09

Fml.

Put a kid on report today. We have to email parents. It's not something that needs a reply and my god I wish we could automate it so it's clear it's not my decision as such. They should go on if they get 2 negatives in a week. He got 4.

Parent emails back. Demanding a phone call.

Incident 1: He says they were all doing it.
2: He says that teacher hates him
3: He doesn't enjoy that aspect of that lesson.
4: same as 3??? Yeah, he did it twice.

Honestly, he took being on report with more maturity that is in that email.

Why have I ended up with a tutor group full of immature boys whose parents think they can do no wrong?

They are actually lovely kids, when they are in trouble it's because they are just silly, but their parents always have to reply and argue back, I'm finding it hard to instil resilience and responsibility when their parents seem to lack it.

I'm not replying until Monday. I don't have time for this shit.

I hear you! So so common. Forget about it this weekend and try to relax. Wine this might help!
CallmeAngelina · 04/12/2020 18:52

I had a (very VERY bright and able) kid on a go-slow in maths today. He said he "didn't get it." bollocks
As we were nearing the end of the lesson and about to be going over the answers, I told him to go to the (supervised) library (immediately outside my classroom) to get on with it.
"But I don't know where the library is," he said.
Angry Angry he bloody well does now, as he spent a portion of his break there

And...? So what?
None of those are remotely valid reasons for misbehaviour and the parent should be told as much. Unfortunately, there's been such acquiescence to parents over the last five to ten years that it's worth having a go because sometimes that call gets the report/detention/etc. stopped. Absolutely ridiculous.

Iamnotthe1 · 04/12/2020 19:18

One of staff in my school had a phone call with a parent today all about the boy's seat in the classroom. He's upset because from his position he can't have a chill and a chat with his best mate. Apparently, this warrants a thirty minute call and heavily critising the teacher which left her in tears.

Parent - it's not your decision. FFS.

CallmeAngelina · 04/12/2020 19:18

At least I know in my case that if I spoke to the child's mum, she would be 100% on my side. She has freely acknowledged he's "on" something at the moment.

Probably prompted by any Mumsnet thread on the subject ‘am I unreasonable to want to have my child move seats?’
Your poor colleague.

CallmeAngelina · 04/12/2020 19:26

Anyway, mixed news from Angelina Primary.
Bad news: We have the builders in.
Good news: New heating system incoming.
Bad news: it's more hot air blowers (er.... not with Covid)
Bad news: we have to do a week out of our classrooms.
Good news: we can re-locate to another year group's classrooms
Bad news: this is because they're all out isolating due to Covid.
Bad news: the newly-installed heating brackets and pipes have been put in over the top of existing displays.
Bad news: they're an absolute eyesore.
Bad news: I spent a couple of hours removing displays ready for new pipework in my room next week.
Good news: I have wine.

WhyNotMe40 · 04/12/2020 19:30

Hello all. Hugs to those who need it and Wine for those who need that!

TheHoneyBadger · 04/12/2020 19:39

I'm so so glad that a) gyms are open again and b) it's Friday. The combination of the two has saved my sanity for another day. Plus the knowledge that ds can go back to school on Monday!

Christmas break still feels a long way away and at the top of a steep hill though.

noblegiraffe · 04/12/2020 19:44

I don't think we've had shitty teacher threads like this for a while. Curious that there's so many just as teachers are really winning support on here about working conditions.

WhyNotMe40 · 04/12/2020 19:57

I haven't seen the shitty threads. But I haven't looked and am not going t!

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 04/12/2020 19:58

Still hanging in there even though I have gone quiet. Covidwise all 3 schools for my family are doing better at the moment. Have everything crossed for being able to go out for walks in the Christmas holiday. Sending love to everyone who is struggling and dealing with extra rubbish things. My only ambition in life for the present is to make it to bed before I fall asleep.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 04/12/2020 20:04

I've not spotted shitty teacher threads. I've ended the week in a relatively good spot. We've been told that first day back after Xmas inset is free for PPA and sorting out classrooms. Means I won't have to work over the holidays. I've got PPA on the second day back too.

Still worrying about having to isolate over the Xmas hols though.
