You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@noblegiraffe

Mixer? Mixer? FANCY.

I just take a slug straight from the bottle on my lanyard.

GrinGrin

I accidentally got some hand sanitizer on the rim.of my water bottle earlier in the week as I was about to drink from it.

ACH! It tasted VILE. It took at least 2 lessons and a double strength coffee to get the taste out!

... It might need angostura bitters or something.... Grin

"Got a bit of a bollocking from DH tonight as "you spend your life chatting with these virtual teacher friends of yours" Oops."

I've found myself quoting a couple of you at work recently, and then I have to fudge where I got it from.

WhyNotMe40 · 13/11/2020 21:57

@MsAwesomeDragon

My niece has just been told to self isolate for 2 weeks. Her school have sent the whole yeargroup bubble home, but the letter seems to say it's only one case. That's not the advice any more though is it? Our school is certainly only sending close contacts home, definitely not whole yeargroups.
I believe schools are informing whole year groups if they haven't had time to do the contact tracing bit, or DfE/PHE is closed by the time they are informed
TheHoneyBadger · 13/11/2020 22:03

Good news name. It's amazing how many times things hit the fan and we expect the worst but it actually ends up unforeseeably better.

My hod had the trainee and also noted she's improved. For all her don't like feedback she seems to finally be applying some of it. I'm relieved because having to sit and do observations and a bit of shushing for 2 lessons instead of teaching them next week may just save my sanity next week.

My diet is trashed because work is so hard and there is nothing else to do so food and drink is basically the only pleasure I can think of. And sleep of course. Have logged pizza and Ben & Jerry's tonight and started on my black currant gin tonight.

I'm going to run out of outlander soon and then things may get really desperate.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/11/2020 22:05

Pogged not logged.

GravityFalls · 13/11/2020 22:17

So the info services bods at work are more forthcoming with, well, info than SLT and provide us with this handy graph on the portal. Wonder how long it’ll take until it gets mysteriously retired...

GravityFalls · 13/11/2020 22:18

Oh, that’s self-isolating students by day, BTW.

GravityFalls · 13/11/2020 22:18

Considering we have 1000 students and are only sending home close contacts, that’s quite a lot!

starrynight19 · 13/11/2020 22:22

Wow Gravity that speaks for itself

Possums4evr · 13/11/2020 22:24

Right I'm not a big drinker these days (too old and tired) but I'm off to raid the cupboard so I don't feel left out.Gin

monkeytennis97 · 13/11/2020 23:22

Oh God just had the fear... what if useless Gav goes to be replaced by Gove....

WhyNotMe40 · 13/11/2020 23:27

Nah, Govey has his eye on Doris's spot. He'll be manoeuvring now...

Augustbreeze · 13/11/2020 23:34

It is quite fun on yr thread queen!

noblegiraffe · 13/11/2020 23:52

I do seem to attract them, August!

'I knew this would be you OP, so instead of avoiding the thread I'm all over it...'

Matt Hancock for Education - I can't get over the description of him as your daughter's first boyfriend.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/11/2020 23:52

Gove will be PM. He's a very successful minister and a total cunt

Reasons he might not be - Tory party votes for leader, he's not popular with them.. and they know he's not popular with voters either.

They need Hunt back in Health - has the most experience. Hancock considered to be OK, so it could be sold as a parachute in to rescue education.

All utter bastards though, so doesn't really matter.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/11/2020 23:54

I've done my bit on your thread, but now I know who the main dickhead is, it's a waste of time. Just a troll.

Keepdistance · 14/11/2020 00:16

I agree Hunt for health. He seemed good interrogating them early on.
Tbh our issues with gov reflect the issues in workplaces that the ones who can blag the job arent qualified to do it and then it affects everyone else

noblegiraffe · 14/11/2020 00:20

Wasn't Hunt basically seen as rhyming slang? Junior doctor strikes and whatnot?

monkeytennis97 · 14/11/2020 00:22

Whenever I hear hunt and health I think of this parody (it has swearing in it so don't watch with children around - although not where you expect it, as in he doesn't rhyme it with hunt...) m.youtube.com/watch?v=DJDjmPTk0cY
Danglingmod · 14/11/2020 08:15

Gove is more evil and also more competent than any of them. Although, I think he was seen as both competent and fair at Justice.

I actually think Hunt is quite principled and he was pretty good leading the Health Committee.

Garrrrr. I want rid of loads of them but is it the best time? (Obviously delighted about Cummings.)

RigaBalsam · 14/11/2020 08:16

I am so sad this morning. My friends Gran died yesterday. I am not sure if I have posted about it before.

My friend is a nursery nurse and cares for her Gran, on Tuesday her gran was weak and had low oxygen so they called an ambulance. I saw it outside their house.

She was tested for covid. Positive. Friend tested positive but had no symptoms. Her Gran died yesterday, she blames herself as although 90 her Gran was fine pottering about the house daily, instead she has died alone struggling to breathe.
I have tried to reason with my friend but she is too distraught. It's just awful.
