You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

One more bit. I'm beginning to think the more experienced or competent teachers are the more tslt are threatened by them and want them to stay in their lane. Best to get promoted whilst you're young and shiny and non threatening.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 16/11/2020 21:37

I think I've had the longest day of my life today. We started with 6 positives and ended with 9. Now 4 year groups affected so massive amounts of an contact tracing for us. Very annoyingly 1 also turned up only to be sent home, and then asked for school to pay for a taxi home because mum is isolating waiting for a test.

He lives with mum.

Augustbreeze · 16/11/2020 21:39

Oh!!! (@Whyarewehardofthinking )

PumpkinPie2016 · 16/11/2020 21:54

@Whyarewehardofthinking that sounds stressful!

We had a Y7 today with a temp of 37.9 I was escorting him to reception and asked if he'd just started feeling unwell.

No, he informs me he has had a cough since Wednesday and been feeling hot/sore throat Angry obviously not the child's fault at all but what were the parents thinking sending him in!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/11/2020 21:55

FFS why. This has to be deliberate. I know the government messaging has been a bit hit and miss but that’s the sort of basic message that hasn’t changed since Feb/March.

Hopefully you’ll get to see him once the isolation has finished next week.

I’ve optimistically booked a block of annual leave for March to try & go home. Any guesses on whether this plague filled country might have got it’s cases low enough for me to get through the border without spending all of it self-isolating?

Augustbreeze · 16/11/2020 22:10

I don't think the messaging has been clear enough unfortunately. When it's something that we're not used to / haven't grown up with, and it's extremely inconvenient, people are not going to do it without a lot of persuasion.

Cracklefraggle · 16/11/2020 22:15

Latest from liverpool; 120,000 tested, 2000 positive of which 588 asymptomatic. Bit of a worry that! No positives from ONS in school from what I can gather.
Taught 5 lessons on teams from home today - went well. I'm ill with non-covid so didn't have to but wanted to try as my classes are amazing.
Lungs are in a mess from chest infection - not the best timing Sad

noblegiraffe · 16/11/2020 22:19

Well my thread reached 1000 posts in 3 days. So much for my attempts to shut down conversation, even swearing didn’t put people off.

Interesting discussion about data manipulation on there, we really are being gaslighted and misinformed.

monkeytennis97 · 16/11/2020 22:21

I need to stay off the other threads ... they are killing me tonight (you know the ones about schools possibly finishing early in December).

noblegiraffe · 16/11/2020 22:23

I’m not going on those. Too close to home.

monkeytennis97 · 16/11/2020 22:23

@noblegiraffe yup all filled up. I despair about the whole fricking emperor's new clothes of it all.

monkeytennis97 · 16/11/2020 22:24

Hey @StaffAssociationRepresentative getting near to 1k here tooSmile

TheHoneyBadger · 16/11/2020 22:47

I wasted writing a whole post on wilful data manipulation only to find it was full. Going to take the dog out then head to bed. Don't stay up too late those of you working tomorrow. Screens off! Wink

Augustbreeze · 16/11/2020 22:49

Night 🍯**

CallmeAngelina · 16/11/2020 22:53

@noblegiraffe, that was a cracking thread. Fair play!

TheHoneyBadger · 16/11/2020 23:05

Confession: I've stalled in my weight loss and am struggling not to go overboard on comfort food and drink and just caught myself thinking what I need is a good dose of norovirus 🤣 I am touching all of the wood now!

Night 💤

monkeytennis97 · 16/11/2020 23:15

Night all (had 8 Heroes tonight from the tub). Oh well xx

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 17/11/2020 00:14

@monkeytennis97

Hey *@StaffAssociationRepresentative* getting near to 1k here tooSmile
lol - I will start the next as we are likely to go over a thousand tomorrow whilst I am teaching

Lost all my frees on Monday due to Maths cover requirements - two of them out. English teacher still shielding and we have another going in for a procedure which has been postponed and has become critical.

No ones fault but it does add to workload hence why I am up late marking essays.

Sorry to pop just in
@noblegiraffe did you start a follow up thread to the boffin's one?
Cheers!

TheSunIsStillShining · 17/11/2020 01:10

Thx! :)

SansaSnark · 17/11/2020 06:38

I've got a temp and a cough this morning, so will be off school getting a test today- I've managed to book one locally for 11, so that's something.

We haven't had many cases in school yet, so if I do test positive, I'll be the first teacher- but hopefully it is something else and I will get a negative test =/

I feel quite scared.

MrsHamlet · 17/11/2020 06:47

Good luck, Sansa

WhyNotMe40 · 17/11/2020 06:50

Good luck Sansa

Saucery · 17/11/2020 07:04

Easier said than done, Sansa but try not to worry too much. Statistics very much in your favour Flowers
