Just in case she got lucky and is in the one school that still goes to the pub.

I've signed that petition as well

Loshad · 09/01/2021 20:12

Behind as always
We seem to have quietly ditched flight paths and are currently target grade free at KS3, that’s new for this year.

JanuaryChill · 09/01/2021 21:43

@Loshad have you found the Fourty-first Republic now? Hope so!

Loshad · 09/01/2021 21:48

Thanks January I have, always behind the times.

JanuaryChill · 14/01/2021 17:45

Just turned the little heater on as am sure we'll all be in here in a few minutes 🌞

MrsHamlet · 14/01/2021 17:46

Is there any ribena?

JanuaryChill · 14/01/2021 17:48

Oo hello mrsH. Tesco's Hi fruit Apple and Blackcurrant any good?

TheHoneyBadger · 14/01/2021 17:54

I'm just going to have a little tearful rant in the corner. Posted my woes on the end of the other thread but you'd deserted already.

I hate how uncomfortable it is to try and assert yourself and set boundaries as a teacher full stop let alone as a part timer. I want to say basically a full timer gets 2 and a half the amount of pay I get and 2 and a half times the amount of ppa I get so clearly if you're giving me the same amount of planning responsibility of full timers I am having directed time well beyond my directed hours and I don't have hours extra to spend supporting a student to produce lessons for two different year groups. Need a little scream.

Perfect, January - thanks. A hot ribena substitute is just what the doctor ordered.
Honey I should know this but who is directing you to do all this work? Because it's clearly unreasonable and you are well within your rights to ask what they'd like you to not do so you can do this. It's unsustainable for you.

Cracklefraggle · 14/01/2021 18:07

Honey I would be emailing my line manager exactly what you've said there. Wierdly I've found that being more assertive gets you more respect Confused. I have been told I am intimidating though! Even by SLT Grin

Cracklefraggle · 14/01/2021 18:07

Can't believe how quickly these threads are filling up.

chocolateisavegetable · 14/01/2021 18:19

OK, who ate all the chocolate biscuits before I got here? Angry

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 14/01/2021 18:22

Yep, say exactly that @TheHoneyBadger it's really clearly put. Sometimes I imagine I'm standing up for someone else (which you are, all the other part time staff now and in the future) as it can be easier to fight injustice against someone else!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 14/01/2021 18:22

Honey Assert yourself and DO NOT feel guilty.

I'm FT and hate the feeling that I work a million more hours than other FTers. It must be even worse if you're PT and the expectations are there.

MrsHamlet · 14/01/2021 18:30

It wasn't me chocolate
Wipes hands and brushes crumbs guiltily

MsAwesomeDragon · 14/01/2021 18:30

Honey you definitely need to assert yourself here. I'm feeling overworked, but at least I'm paid for working ft. Working ft for 0.4 pay is definitely not worth it at all.

EvilEdnasEnemiesOfEducation · 14/01/2021 18:31

snow too pitiful to close school here today, but has anyone else been told snow days are no longer a thing and we'll all teach from home?

I'm hoping it will mean we'll agonise less over closing, but the kids are well annoyed.

MsAwesomeDragon · 14/01/2021 18:31

chocolate that might have been me. I always eat more biscuits when I'm sitting at a laptop for ages. They're just there. Blush

MsAwesomeDragon · 14/01/2021 18:33

We haven't been told that Edna, but I can see it coming. I hate the thought of that. I love a snow day. The childlike excitement of not going to school and building snowmen instead is fabulous.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 14/01/2021 18:37

I really hope snow days continue!

I wouldn't be set up for a one off day from home either. I'd also not make my child attend that day so....!

TheHoneyBadger · 14/01/2021 18:38

Her answer is for me not to be available live to my students. That isn't an option. When we're in school I don't expect to sit at the front of the class planning and marking and dealing with emails and student teachers and just put a list of instructions on the board and then ignore the class. It's the core of my job. If I haven't got time to teach and support according to her then I definitely don't have time to support students and create all remote learning content for a year group. She seems to think the teaching bit is optional which is just weird to me!

OP posts:
MsAwesomeDragon · 14/01/2021 18:39

That's true herc. I am using my visualiser loads for teaching online, but wouldn't have it with me for a one off snow day. And I certainly wouldn't have prepared lessons and worksheets ready to be sent out. So snow days may well have to continue.

noblegiraffe · 14/01/2021 18:43

Well I thought the coronavirus board was bad till I started a FSM thread on AIBU.

MsAwesomeDragon · 14/01/2021 18:50

You should know better than that noble

MsAwesomeDragon · 14/01/2021 18:55

honey I fully agree that teaching is the core part of the job, and in fact, is the best part of the job by far!! I love being in the classroom (apart from when I hate it obviously), but I've never felt any enjoyment from planning or marking, they are necessary evils imo. Even if you were only planning and marking though, that would assume the other teachers are also only planning and marking. So they should get equal amounts of jobs to do and, at a push, you should get half as many jobs as any of them. And that's being generous. So half of all meetings, half the amount of planning that they're doing, half the amount of marking (is this working out at least? I assume you have fewer classes to mark work for).
