You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if yo

That’s awful marplemead. There seems to be a lack of official direction on how absence due to self-isolation will be managed under existing sickness absence rules.

EducatingArti · 04/10/2020 17:25

I'm currently stuck at home waiting for a Covid test result. Would be really beneficial if I could get out for a walk before dark but doesn't look likely now.

Saucery · 04/10/2020 17:30

Sympathies, Arti. That was the toughest part for me. It’s hardly Shawshank but it sucks.

WhyNotMe40 · 04/10/2020 17:31

Seems like Exeter university has quite an outbreak as well.

HerdyGerdy · 04/10/2020 17:32

Looks like quite a few of us are having tests now... shocker. I got a negative result in less time than it took to get the appointment 🙄🙄🙄.

DollyMixtureLulus · 04/10/2020 17:33

The EIS have sent out an email saying they’re against a circuit breaker up here as it would be ‘bad for morale’ Confused I really can’t see why they’re taking that stance. I do think it would enrage a certain subset of parents.

Mistressiggi · 04/10/2020 18:17

It would be bad for my morale Dolly, to be fine to work day after day in an unsafe school but then not to be allowed to take the dcs on a day out in the holidays or meet a friend for a meal. I would be seriously pissed off if October week is used in this way. I've already lost a week of my summer holiday that could have actually been spent travelling/meeting friends (plural!)

Mistressiggi · 04/10/2020 18:19

How do you feel about it yourself Dolly?

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/10/2020 18:46

We've got loads of absences at work 😫

Mostly the impact of SI rules.

Schools are falling like dominoes round here.

Hoorah got negative tests! Fingers crossed for new tests.

DollyMixtureLulus · 04/10/2020 18:47

I hadn’t thought about that way I suppose (very selfishly 😕). I’m currently not seeing my parents and my friends always meet in our group of 5 so we’re Zooming from now on. It sounds a bit tragic written down 🙈

My council is a one week Oct week too so we’d gain time. Can’t see many people engagjng with one week of home learning either.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/10/2020 18:49

I'm hoping so much we get to go away at half term. Sad

Yes to constant email checking!

Augustbreeze · 04/10/2020 18:54

Oh sugar now I'm about to go off for yet another test: had been thinking the strange taste in my mouth had been too brief to matter (?!) but then heard from my colleague that's she's just had to have a test..... Y11 dd is not pleased to have to miss school tmrw (I'm not mentioning the possibility of anything longer at present!)

Hercwasonaroll · 04/10/2020 19:13

I wouldn't want a circuit break lockdown. 2 weeks is barely enough and I need half term to see people and relax a bit. Stuck at home with the kids for 2 weeks will not a relaxing time be.

MrsHamlet · 04/10/2020 19:18

Gah: I feel really ropey tonight... really nauseous and tired. I needed to do some marking today and I've got no energy.

WhenSheWasBad · 04/10/2020 19:21

Oh no MrsH don’t go in if you’re sick. There a horrid virus going round here. It’s not Covid but it’s still crap. You won’t do anyone any favours forcing yourself in when you aren’t up to it.

MrsHerculePoirot · 04/10/2020 19:22

Glad to hear about the negative results so far. No data published for today still? Is that usual at the weekend, or still because of their cock-up with the numbers of cases still?

On a positive note, having lost that weight, I went and bought a proper coat for once! It's probably not at all stylish or anything, but I love it!!!

ohthegoats · 04/10/2020 19:25

It would not be good to be stuck at home for 2 weeks right now, the weekend has just been AWFUL - trapped indoors in the rain. Urgh. Bumped into some friends on our v grey and rainy walk (dragging half a field of mud trapped to our boots), and realised that the 7 of us couldn't carry on walking together. Stupid.

MrsHamlet · 04/10/2020 19:26

I'll see how I feel in the morning - I've got to be up at 6 for the train! I'm not going in sick though - I've done that too many times before!

CarrieBlue · 04/10/2020 19:31

The only thing keeping me going is the thought of an early morning run on the beach at half term - I will cry if we can’t go away. We never eat out or go to the pub whilst on holiday, we don’t mix with anyone else and we’re fine if no ‘attractions’ are open - I just want the sea!

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/10/2020 19:33

Oh Carrie yes, same here. We're going to be out in the middle of nowhere, self catering, near a lovely forest.

I've just had a thought (probably after everyone else) the directive to have online learning by the end of term... ready for a lockdown?? 😭

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/10/2020 19:36

Ah hugs mrshamlet get well soon.

Gah August! Fingers crossed all is well.

fuckweasel · 04/10/2020 19:43

@Mistressiggi and @DollyMixtureLulus (and any other school staff in Scotland), have you seen this? www.gov.uk/register-coronavirus-antibody-test?fbclid=IwAR0YNhdLdjtBdPfx9jj1UADMm9KNU9MFlAjwJDeiKwhoajuzKPJyQWIuiaQ
You can register for an antibody test (not everyone will get one). Takes a couple of minutes to register.

Mistressiggi · 04/10/2020 19:45

Yes! I've just signed up, thanks for the reminder fuckweasel I will pass to my colleagues

marplemead · 04/10/2020 19:46

Thanks all - you couldn't make it up!
@Piggywaspushed I'm starting to think it is bullying. I'm expensive, and I think they are trying to get me to leave, because we have a cheaper NQT doing a mat cover who could stay on and do my job. So it wouldn't even inconvenience them if I did go. And to be honest, I don't even really care anymore.

@MrsHamlet hope you feel better soon Flowers

tadjennyp · 04/10/2020 19:51

Glad to hear of the tests coming back negative but sorry for those feeling ill. I have sat here all day planning and marking. Trying so hard to get ahead of myself. Have sent dh and dd off to our local Cineworld so I can carry on without feeling guilty! Hope next week goes well.
