You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if yo

I am practically on my knees with all the extra work. Don't think there is a case in my school though not convinced they would tell us.
My Mum is having her end of life care meeting on Thursday and I can't be there of course. I really want to go and see her but I would feel terrible if I passed anything on. Every choice feels wrong. 😥

DreamingofBrie · 06/10/2020 23:27

I'm so sorry, Jenny. It sounds really tough for you. Look after yourself as best as you can Flowers.

Augustbreeze · 06/10/2020 23:30

Can't you attend by video @tadjennyp?
There's going to be an advanced care planning meeting for my disabled brother and everyone's going to be on video.

Or do you mean you couldn't get the time off?

tadjennyp · 06/10/2020 23:44

Not sure if I would be given the time off. Will try to dial in if I have a free then. Hope your brother's meeting goes well August. Thanks for the support all.

MrsHamlet · 07/10/2020 07:10

You should definitely ask for the time. As bad as our place is at the moment, my head would definitely allow it.

MsAwesomeDragon · 07/10/2020 07:33

I agree about asking for the time Jenny. This is more important than whatever lesson you have at that time!!! I would hope there are very few heads around who would begrudge you that time. You should be there for your mum, even if it is on a phone rather than in person. FlowersFlowersFlowers

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/10/2020 08:02

Please do ask for the time Jenny. Fingers crossed they're understanding.

Saucery · 07/10/2020 08:12

Another one for insist on that time, jennyp. Flowers Work is important, but some things are much more important.

HerdyGerdy · 07/10/2020 10:20

Another one saying attend @tadjennyp. We need to quietly rebel and stop allowing this job to take over our lives.

Consultation for joining an academy starts this week. They are super tough on staff by reputation. I already want desperately to leave. Don’t think this will persuade me to stay.

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/10/2020 11:47

@tadjennyp definitely ask for the time. My school would allow it for sure.

marplemead · 07/10/2020 15:38

So...had my attendance review meeting today. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. SLT didn't back down on counting time off self-isolating as sickness, but did agree that they will need to review the policy/trigger points given current situation. I'm glad I had my rep there, but felt like I argued my case pretty well. He was surprised that I was so composed!

They did try to be supportive, and there was no formal outcome to the meeting. I feel like I've done the right thing by standing up for myself and my colleagues. I will still be looking to leave by the end of the year though.

Piggywaspushed · 07/10/2020 16:07

Second case in the same year in two days in DH's school. Head made a video for staff. PHE told him it is now accepted covid is endemic in schools.

Whole year groups not sent home. Maths teachers have to soldier on teaching half classes whilst live streaming to those at home.

Piggywaspushed · 07/10/2020 16:14

Also, a case in DS1's school (but been off all this week and last so no contact tracing). Sounds like they stayed off because parents had symptoms ,developed some themselves and then got tested . Social responsibility! Blimey!

At DH's school one of the DCs was sent into school while both parents were ill!! FFS!!

Scotland just announced cancellation of Nat 5 exams in 2021.

MrsHamlet · 07/10/2020 16:47

First confirmed student case today. And Ofsted tomorrow!

Piggywaspushed · 07/10/2020 16:54

Ofsted!!!??? Bloomin eck!

MrsHamlet · 07/10/2020 17:05

Yep. Just a check in to make sure we're all okay in this post-Covid world. Meetings with SLT only. They all looked pale 😂

Keepdistance · 07/10/2020 17:08

See if you can spot the error in the DM pie chart

Scotland shutting pubs etc im not fully convinced it's the pubs. 7 cases in our msoa but we have 3 pubs in our village and probably not many others in the area. Though people could be going into town. It's true we had an incident in the la a couple of weeks ago of a man supposed to quarantine who didnt and went to 3 pubs in 2 towns and those towns had cases. I dont think our msoa had school cases but they would go to secomdary at one of the 2 in next town where they both had cases (4 altogether) that town now has 0 cases. I bet our la could t&t pretty efficiently if they did it locally as there actually only about 50 a week.

RigaBalsam · 07/10/2020 17:09

@Piggywaspushed

Scotland just announced cancellation of Nat 5 exams in 2021.
Is that the GCSE equivalent?
MrsHerculePoirot · 07/10/2020 17:11

Just Fuck My Actual Life. That is all.

Our computers have practically stopped working across the school (network issues). I have never worked so many ducking hours in my life and I’m only part time.

So few students in some classes - although only one confirmed case as present.

Those at the top feeling the stress and stroppy emails being sent.

Everyone so, so tired.

And then someone in the team I work with just being really fucking annoying and trying to take over everything in the world despite the rest of us all in agreement about doing it differently.

I’m just done in today. Want to crawl in bed and sleep forever but brain won’t let me 😱😱😱

Apologies for self indulgent rant!

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/10/2020 17:12

@marplemead well done 💪

Piggywaspushed · 07/10/2020 17:18

Yes , basically , riga.

fuckweasel · 07/10/2020 17:21

@RigaBalsamYes, GCSE equivalent, though only a one year course (often begun earlier). They will be assessed internally and assessments moderated.
