You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

No one liked my idea of having zones for teachers and students who wore masks and zones for those who didn’t and the bookies taking bets on which zones are still open in October Sad I guess they could also have a zone for those who think it’s caused by 5g

Flagsfiend · 28/07/2020 20:19

I haven't yet completely solved my mask with glasses issue, have been working on it for a few weeks in shops. I have 2 issues. Firstly my glasses steam up, I can cope with this, but I'm getting there with solving it using wire I think. A much bigger problem is for some reason the mask makes my glasses fall off my face - this means I have to keep pushing them back on which I don't want to do as I'm trying not to touch my face. I can't see well enough without my glasses on to walk round a shop and don't wear contact lenses, any suggestions?

Appuskidu · 28/07/2020 20:19

it lists conditions the organization wants met for schools to reopen. It says buildings should reopen only in areas with lower virus rates, and only if schools require masks, update ventilation systems and make changes to space students apart.

Interesting!

TheHoneyBadger · 28/07/2020 20:19

I hate them too. Kind of like my son though and wouldn’t want him to be an orphan. My parents get right on my tits sometimes but I don’t fancy them getting covid.

If I had a choice it would be blended learning and rotas to allow for sd.

I don't think you can encourage gambling in schools ;)
motherrunner · 28/07/2020 20:21

@mumsneedwine You are battling on on that thread!

@TheHoneyBadger Would make a great science experiment. I’d like to nominate a miserable old fart zone for myself.

I saw someone recommending a little piece of surgical tape on each side of your nose to secure mask. Haven’t tried it though

I know she's a pain in the arse, but there's nothing wrong with being over 50!!

motherrunner · 28/07/2020 20:23

@Flagsfiend

Would this be useful?

And congrats to Piggy for winning (sort of) on the holiday front.
Here's to sunshine in Wales.

Piggywaspushed · 28/07/2020 20:25

Oh nothing at all! Just when it's her.

Hercwasonaroll · 28/07/2020 20:28

Makaton is terrible for trying to explain maths!

I need to be able to communicate well. I need to hear my students. I know plenty of them rely on non verbal cues and lip reading. We all rely on mouth shape to some extent to aid hearing. Do none of you struggle when out now? I know others want masks and I completely understand your reasons.

Flagsfiend · 28/07/2020 20:29

Thanks @motherrunner although my bigger issue is the mask makes my glasses fall off :(

mumsneedwine · 28/07/2020 20:32

@Hercwasonaroll and I understand why you don't. This should be our choice. On or off.
But the Teams thing in class did work well. I typed in chat and they responded with answers. Had to try it as they were changing our air con filters and it was like teaching on a building site.

mumsneedwine · 28/07/2020 20:34

@Flagsfiend I can help with that - I've had mask tying lessons from DD. Tie a knot in the ear bits right next to the mask. It folds the mask so lower on your cheeks. And also means they sit flatter to your face so more protection. Tuck any folds in at the sides too.

Hercwasonaroll · 28/07/2020 20:35

Teams in class no way! No phone policy and half our kids don't have a phone/data.

mumsneedwine · 28/07/2020 20:35

@motherrunner I'm supposed to be PAG marking. But this is much more fun

mumsneedwine · 28/07/2020 20:37

@Hercwasonaroll ah that's a shame. Can they not use the school wifi ? To be honest if mine are going to prat about on phone I'm not caring too much at the moment. I can only teach them if they want to learn.

Is that the same with a cloth mask, or does it only work for surgical ones?

mumsneedwine · 28/07/2020 20:39

Both. Better with surgical ones but I've done it with my cloth ones and means my glasses don't move. And shaving foam stops them steaming up. Wipe it on them and then clean. It's amazing !

Hercwasonaroll · 28/07/2020 20:39

We don't have school WiFi either. Well we do for the school laptops but you have to get your device enacted/encrypted for it to work.

I hope there's a solution somewhere. I think maths is so tricky over teams anyway. Verbal stuff is so much better.

Flagsfiend · 28/07/2020 20:40

Thanks, I will try it when I next go to the shop.

Saucery · 28/07/2020 20:41

No problem, FlagsFiend Maybe it’s not just my hands that are over sensitive at the moment Wink Spending my summer holiday endlessly going over and over how to keep myself as safe as possible in Sept has been difficult.

mumsneedwine · 28/07/2020 20:43

@Hercwasonaroll ah that's a shame. There must be a solution out there somewhere.

I like it Grin We could even Zone whole schools to make the experiment more contained.

Just asked DS how he feels about wearing a mask. He said he’d rather not. I said Tough Shit.
