You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

You’re explaining perfectly well and I’m sure you know your condition best. I’ll wear them for lesson transitions, wiping down my next desk, chair, remote etc then take them off and use sanitizer. Unless I touch anything I haven’t cleaned I don’t need to sanitize again.

Like you I will buy my own and won’t be forcing anyone else to do the same. Can’t see why anyone else would care. I think we’re going to have to do what’s best for us where allowed

Piggywaspushed · 28/07/2020 19:04

to update those of you who have been sending good wishes for my holiday anxiety , I am now due a full refund for my holiday.

Bit of 'good' news for once.

Have booked a long weekend in Wales instead. So wait for the full UK lockdown next around mid August!

motherrunner · 28/07/2020 19:06

@Piggywaspushed Piggy 1, Villa Plus 0. Excellent news!

Saucery · 28/07/2020 19:09

Brilliant news, piggy! Glad you won your battle for a refund. 🎉

Thanks TheHoneyBadger. I’ve had the same argument on FB with fof whose default position is that anyone wearing mask/gloves is a clueless numpty who will immediately ditch all other precautions against spreading the virus. It’s bloody wearing 😞

Piggywaspushed · 28/07/2020 19:10

Thank you!

TheHoneyBadger · 28/07/2020 19:17

Yay piggy!

Yes saucery. If people think we’re too thick to be able to learn to use gloves safely I don’t think we should be teaching future generations Confused

Is mumsneedwine on here? If so I’m finding it massively amusing to see the tables turn Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 28/07/2020 19:19

I’m full of can do attitude and surrounded by nay sayers. Possibly enjoying myself a little too much.

BelleSausage · 28/07/2020 19:22

I cannot take another mask thread. I don’t know why I let them suck me in. They just seem to be colonised by trolls and wankers.

I faithfully pledge not to rely to another one (until tomorrow).

Really heartening to see how quickly the trend went from ‘why are teachers so hit at home learning’ to ‘they don’t deserve basic PPE’

motherrunner · 28/07/2020 19:25

Masks are akin to the cane. I think that has to be my all time favourite comment 😂

Piggywaspushed · 28/07/2020 19:27

I can't find that thread now. Has it been zapped?

It was turning into the predictable.

I, for one, would be investigating blended learning and reduced class sizes before masks and proper solutions for shielded children and school workers. But money. which Ireland seems to have

TheHoneyBadger · 28/07/2020 19:28

Yep, literally as cruel as caning them apparently

TheHoneyBadger · 28/07/2020 19:30

Agreed piggy. It’s only that we’re banned from those solutions that makes masks necessary imo.

motherrunner · 28/07/2020 19:35

DH plays tennis and a coach at his club posted on Facebook a link to a mask exemption form. He hasn’t got any conditions, just sees them as a ‘violation of his human rights’.

Nelson Mandela eat your heart out.

Piggywaspushed · 28/07/2020 19:36

Oh yes, I forgot it was AIBU. I wish there was a better solution especially for herc and others with hearing impairment or sensory issues.

But the better solution is not crowded classrooms and hallways, reduced time outside and potentially exam and catch up teaching in poorly ventilated spaces.

Piggywaspushed · 28/07/2020 19:36

I am building up to talking to my union about paired duties and bus duties + mask bans.

Saucery · 28/07/2020 19:47

Great skit on Dead Ringers last week - Hannibal Lecter complaining about wearing a mask as it was ‘itchy’ and made his face too hot 😷

mumsneedwine · 28/07/2020 19:58

I will be wearing a mask and visor. Students will be about 10cm away when classes are full. Hate it, but can't risk doing otherwise. Think we should all learn Makaton - I have a student who I communicate using this and we have loads of fun saying silly things to each other. I'm sure I sometimes inadvertently say things wrong too 😊

mumsneedwine · 28/07/2020 19:58

@motherrunner and I'm quite enjoying myself over there. My DD is working as an HCA and laughs about all the fuss over masks.

Piggywaspushed · 28/07/2020 20:03

The weirdest thing I found about my mask in the supermarket was how I felt like it affected my peripheral vision. With my silly small face I felt like the bottom of my eyes were blocked.

I like Face DFNDR. You measure your face and they send the right size and the cotton is a bit softer than the other cotton ones I have tired. The Boden ones fit well but get in my eyes.

Sorry if I came across as argumentative, I didn't mean to. I've just had a fair few issues with people irl who seem to think gloves are somehow magic, including critisizing those not wearing them whilst using them inappropriately.

Is makaton fully signed? BSL relies a lot on lipreading - you are supposed to watch the lips/facial expressions and the signs help you interpret as one sign can mean several different things.
Piggywaspushed · 28/07/2020 20:11

US unions talking about strikes!

www.msn.com/en-gb/news/politics/national-teacher-union-supports-strikes-over-reopening-plans/ar-BB17hItP?ocid=spartanntp_edu

Don't tell that 50 year old...

mumsneedwine · 28/07/2020 20:12

@Flagsfiend pretty much all signed. And amazingly my deaf student is fantastic at reading eyes - told me he can tell what I'm thinking when I wear a mask as I emote more. Bit disconcerting !!!

mumsneedwine · 28/07/2020 20:13

PS I hate masks. Hate them. Really really hate them. But they are needed so I'll do it.
