Hope no-one minds that I started this one...

Continuing the saga of Sussex PR disasters.

I can only answer this by coming at it from my own angle (if you look up my username you will see that I have a history of poor mental health)

Look, I don’t want to get into any arguments; if I overstepped, I apologise again…I just felt sorry for them because they always seem to be in the firing line.

This will be my last post on the matter, do either accept my apology or don’t.

It makes no difference to me.

@GunnelVallquist

I think it is always difficult when new posters pitch up and throw themselves into a very long running series of threads without "reading their way in" so to speak

You will have noticed that this is thread #43 - which means there have been over 42,500 previous posts in this long running series.

Perhaps you can find another thread in the Royal Family category that better corresponds to your opinions.

I appreciate your kind and measured response to me, thank you. 🌺

I do think he has suffered a lot of trauma and that family is absolutely toxic.

Why do you think "that family" is toxic? (By "that family", I presume you mean the Windors and not the Spencers.)

Do you not understand that by using the term "that family" you may be rubbing some people up the wrong way?

What trauma exactly has Harry suffered from?

twosmallaxolotls · Yesterday 15:57

Lunde · Yesterday 15:48

What do you mean that Harry's the only one deserving of his medals? Harry had a pretty undistinguished Army career - in 10 years he only made captain and scoring low marks on the entry tests meant he was pretty much slow-tracked and not considered a good candidate for leadership.

Arguably the most heroic was AMW who served in the royal navy for 22 years and flew helicopters during the Falklands war - acting as a decoy to lure away Exocet missiles away from ships and towards his helicopter and rescued casualties from ships while under fire.

William served for 7 years in all three branches of the military and flew in dangerous conditions as an RAF search and rescue pilot. William, while on secondment to the Navy, was part of a helicopter crew that chased down drug runners in speedboats and seized 900kg of cocaine.

Charles also served in the navy for 5 years. He qualified as a helicopter pilot and for almost a year commanded a minesweeper.

Absolutely. Imagine asserting that it's only Harry who had a military career.
Strange to make assertions without checking the facts.
Look at the facts, @GunnelVallquist, not the Sussex PR

I don’t know either of them well enough (or at all) to pass comment.

But now I’m getting drawn in again when I said I wouldn’t.

Newsflash: you are allowed to comment on celebs and people in the public eye.

And you don’t need to know them personally in order to have an opinion.

Where has this weird mantra come from - I only read it on here- that you can’t have an opinion about someone unless you know them personally?

It's a line they always trot out without considering the logic. How often have we heard that on here?

This is the sort of stuff I’m about..,why is Meghan being vilified for this?

It’s just bonkers.

I think people find it somewhat hypocritical - happy to use other peoples' children as internet content but lecture others about social media while protecting the privacy of their own children

Especially in light of the child last week at the school visit who wanted the cameras out of his face - but found himself used as publicity by Harry's team and splashed over the internet

Multibarpack · Yesterday 16:02

newberry · Yesterday 15:45

It's not hypocritical. H and M don't want their kids' faces shown, which is their right. Her friend doesn't mind her son's face shown, which is her right. Neither one has anything to do with the other. It's the personal choice of each set of parents.

It is hypocritical when you have made statements/campaigned about keeping children (not just her own) off SM and then use children in your publicity on SM

This ⬆️. One of their many pronouncements.

To be fair, his mum did die when he was 12. But he hasn’t been the only child in the world to lose a parent at a tender age even though he would like you to think so.

They think they are being oh so clever trying to shut posters down with that old trope, it didn’t work then and it certainly won’t work now.

Thank you for the voice of sanity.

I am by no means a fan of any Royals either, but I hate people being piled on.

Have a pleasant evening all.

But it’s still only afternoon? I guess it’s 5 o clock somewhere.

To add to what Lunde said above, TLQ served as a car mechanic and driver in WW2 and Phil the Greek also served in the Navy.
George VI served in the Navy in WW1 and was in the Battle of Jutland - I could go on....

bluegreygreen · Yesterday 16:08

Meanwhile, Bill Clinton is grateful to Harry for speaking at his event.

The comments underneath are not ringing endorsements ...

Prince Philip was only 9 when his mum had a severe mental breakdown and was removed to a sanatorium.

Wasn't Prince Philip mentioned in dispatches?

Well, yes. Another child who lost his mother was William. For some reason, however, the "Harry is a poor little thing whose mummy died" never gets applied to William. Instead, he's chalked up as part of "that toxic family" who is making poor little Harry's life a misery.

There's an amazing book titled "Young Prince Philip: His Turbulent Early Life" by Philip Eade. It's an astonishing read that will make you rethink just who Prince Philip was and what he lived through. A turbulent early life indeed!

Extraordinary. Of course also the tragic death of his favourite sister when he was still a schoolboy, and him leading the walk behind her coffin.

Why doesn't @GunnelVallquistmention William's trauma? Why doesn't he count?

Blimey, I go away on holiday for a week and come back to so much catch up work! That clip of the school kids ignoring Harry is brilliant though. Grin

They also preach that no parents should put their children on social media.

Clearly her friend doesn’t buy into their SM campaign.

I don't think the Royal family is inherently toxic. I do believe you have to be a certain type of person to manage living either a public life or a very wealthy life. It takes maturity and humility to cope with the wealth and privilege without falling into arrogance or entitlement. Every wealthy or famous family has individuals that do this well and those who struggle. I'm sure we can all think of examples of both.

Edited

I agree with this. Catherine has slotted into royal life seamlessly. She is not there to be loud, brash or attention seeking.
I thoroughly believe Catherine's upbringing has helped her enormously, she comes from a loving, supportive & functional family which is her normal.
Markle on the other hand has been an unmitigated disaster...

Boudy · Yesterday 16:19

I am wondering if H actually thinks he is resilient. He talks about resilience a fair bit. I wonder what that word means to him.

Prince Philip was only 9 when his mum had a severe mental breakdown and was removed to a sanatorium.

Very good point. And the Duke of Kent lost his father at the age of 6 and suddenly had to take on that responsibility. He was 16 when he had to walk behind King George VI’s coffin.
