Buckingham Palace have said they won't be commenting further on the book. But I expect plenty of others will be and it's not even published yet so I started this second thread. I really liked Diana and thought she got treated shabbily by Charles. But really writing a book of gripes 30 years later is not on imho. I noticed on the news Harry declined to comment on it. Sensible decision for once.

Did he really equate press interest in Diana and Meghan with cancer? 😬
I’ve seen it mentioned but not the actual interview.

He is a horrible, spiteful man and was notorious as such long before this book.

Yes, it’s all sensational stuff, but I think more reflective people will judge him harshly for his grudge-bearing and calculated spite.

Just - as a modest gourmand myself, I can only dream of the sort of fine food and wine they merrily quaff, although I suspect even that must become rather boring when you have it all the time.

At least Margaret channelled her passion for ballet into something beyond mere consumption, both as a patron and a genuine connoisseur. I saw her at the Royal Ballet many years ago no Royal Box for her; she was sitting in the Dress Circle with friends.

William, meanwhile, apparently prefers the modern royal equivalent: Netflix and chill. And with Taylor Swift providing the soundtrack, we can finally say goodbye to the Renaissance Man.

One thing I can agree with you about is the lack of obvious intellectual interests in either of the princes. I say “obvious “ because neither of us knows, but they do seem happier on the footie and pop concert scene. Nothing wrong with those - but I think it should be balanced by more serious enthusiasms.

I think this is a shame. Their father was/is intellectual and loves music, architecture, drama, art etc. I hope PW will develop some of these cultural interests as he ages.

Just to add Princess Diana was a grade 8 pianist. Not the thicky some people like to paint her.

I do agree with you there. Kate & William seem devoid of intellectual curiosity, when they have such avenues open to them they seem disinterested in the arts, literature, opera, ballet. What a waste. Not sure if it's true but I saw somewhere that William doesn't read books either.

He is obsessed with Aston Villa FC, she obviously loves tennis but it all seems to stop there.
Charles puts them to shame on that score. He is a decent artist, and interested in architecture, philosophy, the environment so he makes a good stab at being curious

She was also an amazing dancer who wanted to be a ballerina but was too tall.

Every time I go to the theatre and see the empty Royal Box I think they don't really deserve the access as they don't use it.

And Harry and M. No evidence of art gallery visits or anything but pop concerts. Apparently Charles had to suggest the music for their wedding- neither of the numpties had the first clue.

Question: why did you mention only W & C? Do you dislike them?

Because I know less about their lack of curiousity than William and Kate as they have been in the US and are private citizens without the access and huge benefits that members of the royal family have like W&K

Not sure how many "royalists" were hounding Virginia in Australia or how the palace would have hounded her there or how the palace ever hounded her, but I suspect the main trigger for her suicide was spliting up from her husband, whom she accused of beating her, and her estrangement from her children, whom she hadn't seen for some time. She was also clearly on a downward spiral as evidenced in the strange car accident that she apparently had just before her suicide. She'd literally just been in hospital but no one there noticed that her mental health was in a dire state. Nor did her brother, who has appointed himself as her spokesman and who was staying with her at the time she died, seem to notice she needed help.

At the interval they disappeared, only to reappear when the lights went down for the second half.

In her varied sojourns here, Meghan was made Patron of the National Theatre. You would have thought Edward, given his apparent earlier interest in the arts, could have cultivated this connection rather more. They all had the opportunity to experience some of the world’s finest productions and artists, and to sup on intellectual pleasures and cultural interests that most people could only dream of. Instead - meh...

Yeah, I think a 15-year-old son who was apparently so mature he didn't need any particular care and attention when his mother died knows the emotional state of his mother, even if he doesn't see her that often, far better than an online rando, especially one with very fixed opinions and a grudge.

Honestly even this comment is vile blaming her siblings for not stopping her from committing suicide. And in doing so repeating suicide myths.

Virginias friend said she was being bullied online. Certainly some of the horrendous comments on mn about her would be incredibly difficult for her or anyone connected to her, to read. Lots of lies, lots of rape and sex trafficking myths. All to defend a rich royal man who will never face justice.
