Buckingham Palace have said they won't be commenting further on the book. But I expect plenty of others will be and it's not even published yet so I started this second thread. I really liked Diana and thought she got treated shabbily by Charles. But really writing a book of gripes 30 years later is not on imho. I noticed on the news Harry declined to comment on it. Sensible decision for once.

She's allowed to believe what she wants? I also believe that someone may have killed Diana. I'm not certain. It's just a theory.

Her death definitely benefitted the Royal Family. Now that ES has said that KC was very happy and upbeat after Diana's death, that King Charles sounded like he had won the lottery after Diana died, people are discussing Diana's death again

Do I think Diana could have been killed? Possibly. Do I believe she was? No. I remember seeing Charles distraught over the following day. He’s not that good an actor. Mark Philipps and Snowdon weren’t killed off. Not SF. And she’s worse!

Also what was the benefit? She was becoming increasingly unpopular, & they were coparenting well. I think her death, made it much harder for the RF tbh, for a few years. Even now it still resurfaces. I also can’t see them doing it to the boys. Just my opinion of course.

Why would it bother me if I'm the only person on a thread who believes something. I don't go with the herd.

And we are on a predominantly pro - Royal forum, it's to be expected

Edited

Being on a predominantly pro royal forum means it’s expected that someone would think the royal family had Diana assassinated?
im confused!

Well let's say "a light' if you'd prefer.

So a witness said that a large white light was directed into the car just before it crashed

Right. So there was someone standing in the tunnel, risking their life to shine a light at a speeding car driven by a driver who was also risking his life. That’s very likely. And a pp has already debunked the light theory

There is a difference between not going with the herd as you put it, and trying to contort yourself in to proving something that on the balance of probabilities is a load of bollocks

Again, not what i wrote.

That poster said I'm the only person on this thread to believe this - that the Royal Family may have killed diana.

I then wrote, well as we are on a pro- Royal forum, that is to be expected.

And if those are both true, she went to the very people who should have put her first and they didn't. I know it's easy to think that she could just have had pre-wedding nerves but surely this meant that, at the very least, her family would have known she really needed more support.
We really don't know what happened behind closed doors but I always thought that the photoshoot/press call they did at Balmoral after the honeymoon did come across as two people very definitely attracted to each other and rather 'loved up'. I hope that she at least had some happy years in her marriage.
I do think though that she'd be on at least her third marriage by now if she'd survived and that there'd have been dramas galore in the meantime. Such a sad story, really.

I think the Spencers were expecting Diana to marry the heir to the throne, produce further heirs and then just put up with whatever the marriage brought. This was the old aristocratic and royal way - each partner might have affairs, but you stayed together and made an outward show of happiness.

Also they were very embedded with the RF - Jane was married to the Queen’s Private Secretary and Sarah had been a gf of Charles at one time. Ruth Fermoy, D’s grandmother, was best mate of the Queen Mother and they were both very instrumental in promoting the match.

I don’t think either D or C had a chance in those days!

The witness account said that two men on a motorbike shined a light into the car

Where did you get 'standing in the tunnel' from?

milveycrohn · 19/09/2026 18:45

I certainly do NOT think that anyone killed Diana. In my opinion, and the official verdict, it was a tragic accident, resulting from a car being driven too fast by a driver who was over the drink driving limit.
If one had wanted to kill Diana, a car accident, in which one person survived, possibly being because he alone was wearing a seatbelt, is a very unlikely way of attempting to kill someone. How could you be sure that the driver would drive too fast, that Diana would not wear a seatbelt, etc It is just conspiracy theories because she was young and beatiful and died far too soon.
Prince Charles (as he was then) was distraught, and basically it put back any idea of him marrying Camilla for a number of years.
Diana said herself, that the early years of their marriage were very happy, until at least after Harry was born.

Hence my retired question!

Are you in your twenties and working a boring service job? Asking someone's age in a rude manner and the constant posting on MN leads me to think that of you.

Ok so given that we know that there were photographers there on motorbikes, what makes you think a white light from a motorbike would be part of an assassination?

Twiggy was employed by Charles after the separation to be a sort of nanny/ big sister figure fro the princes when they stayed with him. Diana objected, labelling her “a thumping great Sloane”. She believed the T and Charles were having an affair and went over to her at an event and whispered in her ear”Sorry to hear about your loss” , or similar, referring to her belief that T had had an abortion.

But she was also jealous of T’s closeness to her sons. She had form for this, rather brutally sacking their first nanny, Barbara Barnes, without allowing her so say goodbye to them, when she sensed just how fond they were of Barnes.

Makes you wonder how Diana would have coped with daughters in law.

Have you ever driven through the Hatfield Tunnel, or similar? White lights coming at you from many directions.

Just let it go now. Yes, it’s your prerogative to believe a crazy, long-debunked conspiracy theory, but give it a rest.

You’re not going to convince anyone here.

BemusedAmerican · 19/09/2026 18:49

It was not in the best interests of the RF for Diana to die young. Her constant stream of romances were getting old, and eventually she would become an aging grandmother. Having her die young and beautiful was much more destructive to them. Also, the RF are not monsters.

I know anti-Trumpers who are convinced their phone is tapped, etc. Paranoia is not restricted to the UK.

Yes, it does. She had some good qualities but she could also freeze people out and be nasty.

She fell out with Fergie because F joked that she’d caught a veruca a from her and she was no-speakies with her mum and Charles at her death.

A damaged person for sure.

I hate, hate autocorrect. I’ve just noticed it’s changed Tiggy to Twiggy. Aaarrrggghh. But that might have worked better for everyone!

It reminds me of the situation with Elizabeth the First and Robert Dudley. They flirted and may have wished to marry. Dudley was already married, with a sick wife. But when his wife mysteriously fell downstairs and died when she was alone in the house it made any thought of marriage out of the question because of the scandalous circumstances.
