Buckingham Palace have said they won't be commenting further on the book. But I expect plenty of others will be and it's not even published yet so I started this second thread. I really liked Diana and thought she got treated shabbily by Charles. But really writing a book of gripes 30 years later is not on imho. I noticed on the news Harry declined to comment on it. Sensible decision for once.

Anyone watching the interview chips today?

EC is a saying that he doesn't feel bitter towards KC or the Royal Family. He said, If he did, the book would be a lot more bitter.

They are finished.
The demographics have not changed. Their only support is among the elderly - it’s literally dying off .

Yup. I've still got my 1953 red, white and blue propelling pencil. Ever so posh. An aunt gave it to me.

Ohh! Posh balloon!

Ive no idea what that link is so will not click on it but I doubt it contradicts long term demographic change .

That’s what was thought, but it seems the memoir of his sister is basically a settling of ancient scores.

I think it’s rather tasteless.

Why consume and comment then?

People can write books about their families if they choose but equally we don’t have to consume it, particularly if you find it inappropriate.

Are all the people commenting here elderly then? How insulting, I’m barely 50!

He doesn't need to back them up. He is clearly telling the truth.

Shame he didn’t tell the truth to Larry King then when they spoke after the funeral and Charles Spencer said then Prince Charles had been perfectly polite about the funeral and never said anything nasty to him. Was he not being entirely truthful then, or is not being entirely truthful now, i wonder?

The changing narrative is a big problem for me. If Charles S isn't bitter then why is he telling a different story now? Surely if what he is claiming is accurate he would have been more likely to publicise it when his grief was raw?

It is all very strange. The more clips we get the less the claims line up with what we saw and heard at the time.

Best probably for the palace to keep quiet and leave it at the one statement and to let the story run out of steam. It will still get rehashed over and over online but the vast majority of the public aren't in places like this and have far more important things to worry about than what was said 30 years ago.

Jeff 60 plus!? What are you saying?!

Why, he may be a little grey around the temples now, but to me he’ll always be reclining, bare-chested and glistening in some corner of Jurassic Park.

He expects us to believe that?

I only read the bits quoted on here. Did I do wrong?

No , since you ask, I’m on here at particular times because I have an autistic child and am his main carer , I also have just recovered from a serious illness and have been unable to leave the house.
anymore questions?

@MrsLeonFarrell

What? Is CS claiming he isn’t bitter?

It's upthread, apparently he said it in the interview.

For him to retain any credibility for the rather extreme claims he is making to be accepted he needs to present himself as calm and objective. From what I saw on the news he did a nice job imitating the voice of reason, but his florid prose rather ruins that impression.

Ultimately though, as Spare has shown, this will all blow over, the public will lose interest and Charles S will have to come to terms with what he has written. It's all too long ago to have any real impact beyond headlines and social media chat

MrsLeonFarrell · 19/09/2026 15:07

I've been thinking any the contrast between the palace statement after Oprah and the one now. I suspect that this one is broader because there are too many accusations in the book. Unless they are prepared to comment on each one, which isn't how palace PR works, they were always going to release a broad brush general "recollections vary" type statement then just keep calm and carry on

Pipedreams607 · 19/09/2026 15:09

foxylady2 · 19/09/2026 10:02

Richard Kay, in an earlier video interview for the documentary The Windsors: Inside the Royal Dynasty, described the Windsors as “utterly ruthless” and said that he had it on good authority that, when they heard Diana had died, there was a sense of relief at the Palace. Kay was a long-standing Daily Mail journalist and a personal friend and confidant of Diana; he was also interviewed by Operation Paget following her death.

He made that extraordinarily serious claim years ago, yet, as far as I am aware, no member of the Royal Family or Palace has publicly sued him or brought a libel action against him over that particular allegation. That does not, of course, establish that the allegation is true and it remains Kay's claim but the fact that it was made publicly by a journalist who had such close access to Diana is certainly noteworthy. So Earl Spencer’s claim isn't new just the fact that he is prepared to publically make it.

Very interesting points…. .

Flufffluff11 · 19/09/2026 15:13

If KC was giddy and elated at Diana's death, it does bring up the old theory of 'could they have planned her death'

EC is a brave man. Because if I was him I would think that I could be killed for writing this book. Maybe as he's getting to a fairly late stage of his life, he is willing to take the risk

Agree.

It’s sensational but I think opinion will become more critical of CS in due course and he won’t like it.

I wouldn’t be accepting any criticism of my husbandly conduct from CS. As someone upthread said, there must be NDAs in force on some of his former partners.

CoffeeCantata · 19/09/2026 13:01

Absolutely - they were both victims of an archaic tradition. Give Charles a break from being the baddie.

They were, but the whole set up of Monarchy is the problem, and they are the ones keeping it alive. They are victims of a system they themselves are desperate to continue. They will never give up the homes, the privilege, the power no matter what damage it does to their own children or how perverse or outdated it is. No one forces them to do this performing monkeys nonsense. They do it because they know they have to to keep the whole gravy train on the road. That was the only reason they did anything about Andrew. They would just be ordinary rich people with out it, and would have to get jobs to pay for their own house repairs. Harry tried and has realised pretty quick what a mistake that was.

persephoneee · 19/09/2026 15:21

Will this eventually bring down the House of Windsor!

About time someone called them out. They portray a benign presence but what lies beneath is the important thing. There is plenty of form in that family for cover ups, bags of cash, cheating on spouses, racism (PPhilip) and Princess Michael who wore the blackamoor brooch in the presence of Meghan, oof!, and so much more.

Individually these things might not appear too bad, but collectively they are IMO. I think they have gotten away with a lot over the years with bland statements of the "recollections may vary" type conveyed to a largely compliant, believing and somewhat sycophantic audience. PR at its finest, and lord knows they can afford that to preserve their image!

Being a cynic is one of life's great gifts. 😉

It really doesn't. Diana died because she got into a car with a drunk driver and didn't do her seat belt up.
