Buckingham Palace have said they won't be commenting further on the book. But I expect plenty of others will be and it's not even published yet so I started this second thread. I really liked Diana and thought she got treated shabbily by Charles. But really writing a book of gripes 30 years later is not on imho. I noticed on the news Harry declined to comment on it. Sensible decision for once.

I do think King Charles statement was weak, it doesn’t have the same immediate impact as ‘recollections may vary’ which immediately put Harry and Meghan in their place.

Despite that, public support is very much with King Charles and not with Charles Spencer.

No, we don't know what he said or what was meant.

Charitably, the most we can say is that we know what Charles Spencer thinks he heard and how he understands it many years later.

Actually I think I misquoted
I’ve just heard it from Charles Spencer on the radio :

Charles said
‘WE will forget her soon enough’

WE

I knew posters above trying to link it to the crowds weren’t quite right and if the quote was ‘she’ll be forgotten ‘ that could be one interpretation . But it wasn’t .
it was
‘We will forget her soon enough’

Christ that has shocked me again .

Spencer’s marriages are a complete non sequitur

Really grasping at straws there

Spencer is believed. He is believed worldwide . He is interviewed on Sunday on the BBC and the clip I’ve seen will convince any one who is undecided

Yes the book reveals a horrible monstrous nasty thing Charles said about the mother of his children .
Yes the rumour that Charles is gay or bi is referred to.

However the Windsors have lied about far far worse
They have covered up for Andrew and Epstein - and publicly stated that Virginia was a liar when they’d known about Epstein for decades!

The entire Windsor facade is cover up and lies .
This is another little bit of truth revealed .

Edited

"Spencer is believed."

Where is Spencer believed? Most people I know and who I've seen online are saying "I don't believe King Charles would have said that, he was clearly devastated when he went to Paris to get Diana's body".

Moreover, Charles and the royal family gave Diana as close to a state funeral as possible - they gave her the greatest honour and made her funeral a memorable event that the whole world could watch and say goodbye to Diana through, as well as remember her in the future. Charles Spencer wanted a tiny funeral with just a few family members that the public who loved her would have had no connection to. He then took command of Diana's body and buried her in an isolated place that he controls access to.

I think Charles W was referring to the weeping masses. Rest assured, Diana will be forgotten (they will move onto the next thing). It is the only interpretation that makes sense.

we have been misquoting - I think I misquoted too

I heard Charles Spencer quoted in the radio just now and the words were

‘WE will forget her soon enough ‘

nothing to do with the crowds

Shocking .

@BunnyBunbunbunmost people you know? Have you had a massive discussion amongst all your friends & family about this already?!

That was a good statement as it also was conciliatory & expressed good will. This response didn’t do that.

Yes it depends on your social media . I don’t know about the tabloids .

However BBC news appeared on my instagram and there were thousands of comments . I didn’t read them all obviously but they were all saying they believe Spencer

An American news site had similar .

Ukisgaslit · 19/09/2026 08:49

He said
‘rest assured she’ll be forgotten soon enough’

We know what he meant .
She hasn’t even been buried at that point. This was the mother of his children.

And how wrong he was

I’m replying to myself because it’s too late to edit

I have misquoted. The real quote is far worse and has nothing to do with the crowds
Charles said
“WE will forget her soon enough’

Then Charles Spencer put the phone down and told others what the then POW had said . Charles ( POW) statement came after a long rant when he was bellowing ( they were arguing because Charles wanted the boys to walk and Spencer was against it ) . The last sentence was hissed .

I totally believe him .

Yes, it was too long IMO, & ambiguous, Not same impact as Queen’s. Mistake to say anything I think, esp given CS the adversary.

Charles was her ex so I don’t know what he was doing trying to take over .He even refused to let Diana’s mother see her body . He had no right to do that .

The state funeral was only as a result of public outcry and criticism. They were busy isolating her and smearing her ( the usual Windsor go to )

The queen even tried to return Diana’s HRH after her death no doubt to curry favour when they realised the public mood .

So what if Spencer wanted a private funeral ? He has no time for the Windsors .
No many do any more .

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 19/09/2026 09:46

I don't think King Charles managed to recreate that 'recollections may vary' moment. His statement seemed rather clunky and defensive and lacked the brevity and wit of its predecessor. These were two broken men at the time of Diana's death. Both must have been reeling in their own way and heated words were probably exchanged. Better to refer to the situation having been difficult for everyone involved if you are going to respond at all. Say something magisterial if you must comment - don't send a flowery poison pen letter insinuating you are above the fray and the other person flawed.

I was leaning to believing it anyway but yes that panicked terrible attempt at the usual personal smear proved it for me

Then look at the eulogy - Spencer mentions Diana being remembered for ever . That fits as a riposte to Charles’ shocking comment
‘ We will forget her soon enough’

The BBC moderate their comments like crazy across all their SM.

As an aside, that BBC interviewer was absolutely terrible, she came across as being totally biased in King Charles favour in an effort to be seen as asking the ‘hard’ questions.

foxylady2 · 19/09/2026 10:02

Richard Kay, in an earlier video interview for the documentary The Windsors: Inside the Royal Dynasty, described the Windsors as “utterly ruthless” and said that he had it on good authority that, when they heard Diana had died, there was a sense of relief at the Palace. Kay was a long-standing Daily Mail journalist and a personal friend and confidant of Diana; he was also interviewed by Operation Paget following her death.

He made that extraordinarily serious claim years ago, yet, as far as I am aware, no member of the Royal Family or Palace has publicly sued him or brought a libel action against him over that particular allegation. That does not, of course, establish that the allegation is true and it remains Kay's claim but the fact that it was made publicly by a journalist who had such close access to Diana is certainly noteworthy. So Earl Spencer’s claim isn't new just the fact that he is prepared to publically make it.

persephoneee · 19/09/2026 10:10

I'm inclined to believe that after the initial shock, the RF was somewhat relieved that Diana (mother of the future King), especially with a Muslim boyfriend, son of a shopkeeper (sic) and lord knows what she might get up to in the future, was no longer here.

She was vilified by the press prior to her death, and that would have continued with more and more salacious gossip. She might have been divorced from C but she might have written a book herself and spilled ALL the bloody beans!

Recklessismymiddlename · 19/09/2026 10:16

Dodi was a fling. I doubt she’d have stayed with him. The real love was Hasnet Khan wasn’t it? Don’t think the RF really were concerned about him as AFAIK
Now would Fayed the elder have let her go? I bet he’d have blackmailed her, that would have got nasty real quick I reckon.

I think she’d have gone to the US and hopefully been happy.

IMO her family should have listened to her when she said she wanted to pull out of the wedding, they are as much to blame as the royals, more so, they were her family to protect.

BunnyBunbunbun · 19/09/2026 09:06

The offers were farmhouses - probably isolated and which hadn't been lived in for yonks - that Spencer wanted Diana to pay rent for. She wanted to stay at Althorp, he at first said yes then told her he couldn't stay.

The fact Diana didn't end up staying and paying rent at Spencer's properties in her time of need shows just how inappropriate what he offered her was. While technically he offered her somewhere to stay (to rent, actually) his offer was crap, which is why she didn't stay at any of Earl Spencer's properties (of course, as a girl she couldn't inherit any of the family properties, they all went to him).

Diana was reportedly not even talking to Spencer at the time of her death, so that shows what she thought of him and his offers of "assistance".

To be advised by the Police not to let Diana stay at one of the properties because of the proximity to the road, and CS offering other properties that weren't suitable for her for whatever reason doesn't mean he turned her down out of hand.

We will agree to disagree of course.

TheRoyalInkPot · 19/09/2026 10:23

You can be devastated ,shocked ,relieved all at the same time.
You can want the right thing done by the mother of your children and mother of the future king as well as hoping that people move on and love your queen just as much
