Buckingham Palace have said they won't be commenting further on the book. But I expect plenty of others will be and it's not even published yet so I started this second thread. I really liked Diana and thought she got treated shabbily by Charles. But really writing a book of gripes 30 years later is not on imho. I noticed on the news Harry declined to comment on it. Sensible decision for once.

No but the press definitely went all out to try and turn the attention away from their own culpability. The paps don't chase people down for fun. They would have got a huge chunk of money for good pictures of Diana and Dodi coming out of the Ritz together from the British tabloids. Even though the ultimate culpability was with the public who would have bought those papers.

I just wonder how long can the Royal Family continue like this.
Horrific scandals like Andrew and the Soap Opera-esque events currently playing out.
They are losing respect by the day.

This book is going to be far more damaging for Earl Spencer's reputation!

King Charles will be fine. He's already lived through far more hostile stuff and I doubt many will fall for Earl Spencer's new version of events. Even more problematic for Spencer is the fact that his own fractious relationship with his late sister will come under scrutiny. Those letters of his to her that were made public in 2002 really don't show him in a good light. He was very unpleasnt to her! Perhaps we'll learn more about why his previous three marriages broke down or why his children don't invite him to their weddings.

The royal family continuously renews itself. In some years, William will be King. What will Earl Spencer do then? Trash his nephew, his beloved sister Diana's son? More likely he will do all he can to let the world know that he is the King's uncle (while King William ignores him).

The funniest thing is Earl Spencer just loves all his family connections to the royal family - he regularly posts on Instagram about his father's connections to the Queen, or, more recently, a photo of his father as a boy with Queen Mary. He even believes that his father was due to marry the future Queen Elizabeth but Mountbatten manouvred to put a stop to that!

The book has just been published. It would have been written over a year ago. I'm not sure what a conspiracy theory would be about?

No the royal family in the past had queen Elizabeth. She kept the institution going because even when people were not happy with the rest of them, they respected her.

When you watch him in the video with Kuensberg I believe him.

Andrew has been thrown out and the soap opera is not coming from the royal family.

The royal family can continue forever really. One day Charles will no longer be King and William will be King. Then it will be George. Somehow, I doubt anyone will try this drama with William.

Sorry I think you're a bit naive. Diana was very popular and died at a young age.

This probably wont bring down the monarchy altogether but it will be damaging to them.

To be fair that doesn't seem that outlandish to me. There must have been a limited number of Dukes and Earls of the right age, so I suspect they were all considered and the Spencers obviously knew the Royals.

It just doesn't mean very much. I expect Tyson Fury's daughter also had a limited choice.

Andrew was evidently protected for a long time. Arguably he was thrown out when they had no bloody choice?
And by soap opera, whether the RF are playing or not , all the drama and airing of dirty laundry, it’s not what the public expects

Yes I think the last Monarch had already been born. At the very most of this survives past George I can't see anyone being interested in being dragged out to stand around being asked inane questions by some Royal. I suspect it will be similar to a ceremonial presidential role. just hereditary, with just the monarch and spouse.

King Charles is old and has been through a lot of stress. I couldnt hate him for this even if he was absolutely over the moon that Diana died. I do feel sad for Diana though. What life did she have really. It's interesting to read about it from the Earls perspective though

He’s claimed that his father was warned off by Mountbatten while he was equerry though, and QEII and Philip were already married by then.

If you want your book to be a historical record then facts have to be accurate.

Thrown out is pushing it a bit - he has been exiled on the Royal estate and may well face criminal sanctions in the near future so a lot more may come out under oath where "recollections may vary" doesn't apply.
