So does this potentially mean that when Diana said that famous line ‘there was 3 of us in this marriage’, she wasn’t talking about Camilla after all.

She was talking about Tiggy

I don't want to derail any more than my post from last night already has, but I just want to say that I am very much not someone who is just dropping by to cause problems - I don't post very often due to how fast threads move but have been reading since about (I think!) thread 15 or so.

Last night's post I admit was completely off topic and unhelpful. In my defence I had spent several stressful hours being criticised for criticising Charles Spencer on other threads!

But I don't want to derail again, so I'll leave it at that.

Really, that’s interesting, I always thought it was assumed she was referring to Camilla. I didn’t see the interview at the time, and I don’t think it is available now.

anyway, sorry for the derail, that’s for another thread.

Agree, plus the fact this rumour dates back to the 90s, when insinuating a man was gay was a cheap and easy insult, designed to degrade and humiliate. Based solely in homophobia.

I have no real love for Charles, his behaviour at times has been selfish and entitled, but this is a disgusting accusation, and it cheapens Spencer and Diana (if she even said it - or in what context, ?an obvious joke/sarcasm - it was an insult to Camilla who she saw as lesser).

Charles Spencer appears to have no barrel to which he will not scrape for money.

Yes exactly.

Did you know that Diana suggested Tiggy had an abortion? A confrontation at the party referred to (qv).

Instead of focusing on the fact he didn't answer the question whilst at the Invictus event lets focus on the fact they raised £1.7m which is hardly a disaster and actually think its pretty great to raise that much in a single night.

I assumed The valet and royal was AMW and that’s why he and SF divorced.

Ah well done 👍, I’m clearly rubbish using online news!

Didn't they divorce following SF's notorious holiday pictures which made front page news?

Recklessismymiddlename · Today 15:44

Yes that’s was after but the trigger I assumed or heard was AMW his bisexuality. Can’t remember where I heard it, but was decades ago.

AcrossthePond55 · Today 15:48

As far as KC and 'the valet', it is really easy to take a quote and use just a part of it to turn it into something scurrilous. And as someone already said, 'gay rumours' exist about just about anyone who is a <ahem ahem> 'public figure'. CS could have taken a complaint by Diana along the lines "OMG Carlos, Charles is always with that <name redacted> and pays attention to whatever he says. I swear to God it's like he's in love with him!!!". Take the last few words and voila! you have a 'quote' that really isn't a 'true quote'.

I mean, if it were true that he was gay (and I don't believe it is), why would he have kept the relationship with Camilla going for so many decades, especially when he was a married man and wouldn't have needed a beard? And why would he have been so insistent on marrying Camilla after Diana's death 'freed him' to do so? She would have been just as useful as his beard as a mistress or 'companion'. And she certainly would have had an easier life and more freedom that way.

I too heard that explanation for the York divorce, at the time they divorced so before social media. Doesn't mean it's true of course but it's far more credible than transferring the story to Charles.

Nobody is suggesting KC3 is gay.
Diana allegedly made a comment that suggests she wanted to give the impression he had had a relationship with his valet. Which would mean he was bi, maybe.
Who knows if it's true?
It's all a very long time ago and I would be taking it all with the most enormous pinch of snuff.
What we do know if that Charles and Camilla very successfully convey the image of being happily married.

SqueakyDinosaur · Today 16:03

Having read more than is perhaps healthy, the relationship between Prince Charles and his valet Michael Fawcett appears to have been indeed a very close one, but I'd be astonished if it was sexual. It was more that Charles came to rely on MF as his Mr Fixit for everything, and they shared an aesthetic sense (there's a story of MF finding a gold dining service somewhere in the vaults and arranging for C to use it for a fundraising dinner - it hadn't been used in aeons before that).

Plus the relationship of valet and "gentleman" is inherently an intimate one - he knows all the secrets. Look at Bunter and Lord Peter, or even Bertie and Jeeves. This person irons your underwear, FFS!

ETA that they know where the bodies are buried. MF is always supposed to have been instrumental in the plastic bags full of cash from dodgy Middle Eastern potentates and all that sort of thing. He was also known as Fawcett the Fence for selling off unwanted gifts that C passed on to him, which in itself was a reputational risk to C.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · Today 16:03

The valet story is incongruent with all the other stories as well as the facts.

"He said he didn't love me before the wedding."
"He wore CC cufflinks on honeymoon"
"He was having an affair with Camilla"
"He was having an affair with the nanny"

If all the above is true, why would a separated woman NEED a gay affair to justify divorcing her husband?

Tbh, I imagine it's more likely a comment such as, "he loves his valet more than he ever loved me" - and frankly, if I had a Jeeves character following me around tidying up after me I'd bloody adore them!

Recklessismymiddlename · Today 16:08

Reminds me of what my adult dc said to me on Monday evening. Came home and said, “how are you after the person you love more than anyone else in the world is back from their 2 month holiday?”

They were talking about my cleaner. They were not wrong.

William & Kate went to Emily McCorquodale's wedding as well (daughter of Lady Sarah). They didn't go to the wedding of Lady Kitty or Lady Amelia Spencer (neither did Harry). I've always had the impression he's not close to the Spencers. It would make sense given they seem to have largely grown up in South Africa.

But not to Emily’s wedding, which Ham went to and were photographed at. BTW google George, their brother. They share the same genes!

Just looking at the pics of Harry at the Invictus awards do last night. What are all those medals on his shoulder and around his neck? I thought he'd had his military honorifics stripped?

Have we had Anne is a lesbian yet?

My2cents1975 · Today 16:18

I am reminded of my aunt who was a social worker. She always said that adults need to love the children more than they hate their in-laws. And sometimes life is incredibly hurtful and unfair, but to carry forward the pain into the next generation does not do anything to alter the past and can damage future generations.

IMHO, Charles Spencer needs to accept that his two nephews have only one parent left. And that whatever hurt happened between his sister and her then husband can never be undone. And that his sister, while alive and actively fighting with her husband stated that KC3 was a good father to her boys.

Poisoning the relationship between his nephews and their father is not helping any matters. Doing it for money...that is truly reprehensible.

SqueakyDinosaur · Today 16:19

I believe he is not allowed to wear uniform at ceremonial events as he is neither a serving member of the armed forces nor a working member of the Royal Family. But decorations are ok for a military event.

Though he's got some bloody brass neck wearing the neck cross - it's for a Knight Grand Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, awarded for personal services to the Sovereign (in practice I believe only the family get the top gongs). Awarded to him by QEII, whose latter years he did his best to bugger up, and now relates to his father, in whose side he has been an enormous thorn for the last 8 years.

wordler · Today 16:19

Fondmemories · Today 16:14

So did I!

No - his ceremonial military positions were removed which means he has no current military position and cannot wear uniforms in public.

It means he is like any regular veteran - he’s permitted to wear medals and honours earned with a regular suit.
