it is more likely that the Foreign Office wanted the King to make it clear that Harry’s behaviour was not an obstacle to the Ugandans competing, which is what their leader claimed was the reason behind them withdrawing

But why is it up to the Foreign Office or Charles to tell the Ugandans what is and isn't an obstacle to them competing, smilesy?
I rather got the impression they'd decided that for themselves, and isn't that what Commonwealth nations are supposedly encouraged to do?

If they'd been talking about withdrawing from the Commonwealth itself, or if Charles had weighed in about Invictus in the first place, that might be a different matter, but since the event's being fronted by a "private citizen" no amount of spin convinces me that it was appropriate for Charles to get involved

But why is it up to the Foreign Office or Charles to tell the Ugandans what is and isn't an obstacle to them competing, smilesy?

Because, as quoted by me above, the Ugandans specifically and publicly said that they were withdrawing from the IG because they didn't want to offend Charles. Charles isn't telling them whether or not they should get involved in the IG. Just that they shouldn't do so out of any misplaced belief that he would be offended. It seems an entirely appropriate action for him to take, as Head of State and Head of the Commonwealth.

As someone said above, not everything is about Harry.

It just makes Charles look weak.
It does. Fixing the Uganda thing is just cringeworthy. Stop caving to H's tantrums and just ignore him.

He didn't do it for Harry. He did it because the Ugandans used his name in connection with something which is nothing to do with him and he wanted it made clear that it's nothing to do with him. Not everything is about Harry.

This 'Charles is weak' is beginning to look like a narrative that's being pushed from somewhere. It's reminiscent of the Sussex tactic - hope that if you repeat something often enough people might begin to believe it, even if it's blatantly untrue.

I am a huge critic of H and M so I am certainly not pushing a Sussex narrative however I stand by my original assertion that I think KC was wrong to get involved . No matter how good his intentions were , H will see it as some sort of victory.

No the foreign office or some diplomat should have managed this.

But Charles was mentioned personally. So having his representative, rather than 'some diplomat' contact the Ugandans was the appropriate channel of communication.

Hello you lovely “service is universal” crowd of ladies.
Today I graciously had an early engagement at my local hospital where I greeted staff and volunteers, talked about what they did , let them show me a procedure and made a quiet donation to the ‘Friends of’ charity.
AKA (I went to hospital bought three paperbacks from the ‘shop’ put the change from a fiver in their tin and had an internal scan. Joy).

I cannot keep up with this thread. I’m only on page 20.
So in order to show my devolution since it’s moving at 20 pages per day I have changed tomorrows Ocado order so I don’t have to spend too much time cooking.
DH will be having ‘bags of flavour Thai chicken’ tomorrow with rice then a yoghurt - see! See my commitment!
Im reading this whilst watching ‘Last night of the Proms’ - I’m so behind on life due to my engagements!
When do I announce this weeks??
Anyway, I laughed very much at the utter ridiculousness of the 🇬🇧❤️ montage of shite. I’m sweating myself silly today, I feel like my underboobs are about to explode -it’s been very warm in Yorkshire today! The thought of a fire and a puffy jacket made me laugh -and where did those muddy puddles come from?
God they are utterly insufferable,

Sorry to everyone who I usually like/heart/clap your posts -I haven’t had time to press the clicky thing as I’m too busy playing catch up. What with this and the Christmas thread my arse is welded to the sofa!

So what though?

Surely international diplomacy takes precedence over whether or not dim Harry sees something as a 'victory'? What does that really matter in the scheme of things?

And really, Charles was involved the moment the Ugandan president's son publicly mentioned him as the reason for Uganda's withdrawal. So it's not like he chose to get involved. He was already involved, and his only choice was how to deal with it.

Yes, I think those are fair points.

BasiliskStare · Yesterday 18:09

H sees slights where there are none , he will see victories where they aren't. It has been so and it will be so. He is , I think , getting less credible with every outburst.

It used to be said that the minimum academic requirement for a commission in the British armed forces which was five O levels was only set so low to ensure that the Royals could get in.

He needed 2 A levels to get into Sandhurst which is how Eton got embroiled in the cheating scandal with his Art teacher instructed to do his written work to get him to pass Art. Harry had already quit his 3rd A level (history of art) after flunking out at AS level.

These days you need 72 UCAS points for Sandhurst (Minimum a B and a C) - Harry only had 64 (with cheating) and wouldn't be eligible

No, the RF never have pre nups.

I don't think the RF have prenups as they are not legally binding under English Law.

I think H is probably a great dad. Meghan could conceivably allow him to have the children. She looks uncomfortable around the children and the time for merching them has probably gone. My suspicion is that they are not spectacularly good looking and that's why she 's keeping their faces hidden. Her unpopularity in the US and the indifference to the monarchy suggest their value is not what does may have thought it would be.

My suspicion is that they are not spectacularly good looking and that's why she 's keeping their faces hidden

My suspicion is that they look far more like grandad Markle and bear almost no resemblance to granny Diana.

It's H's 42nd birthday tomorrow. Do we think M is going to release another video to mark this special event?

And will he be wearing a crown? Like she was wearing a plastic princess tiara on hers

I don't consider Harry a great father at all. I'm sure he believes he is because he tells himself he is. A good father doesn't merch out his kids on SM for them to be ridiculed

MargaretThursday · Yesterday 18:26

KilkennyCats · Yesterday 15:32

Based on what?

Agreed.
I suspect he's better at being the fun uncle that pops in, plays a few games then goes when there's bedtime/homework/something that isn't just playing.

I've often looked at the photos with them and the children and there isn't that casual loving feeling between them. I suspect people are going to talk about being posed, or making sure that their faces aren't shown, but if they naturally love being with him, it's not difficult.
I mean, my ds, he's 19yo, and has a hobby which involves all ages. He can't really understand it, but a lot of the young children think he's amazing. He doesn't really do much with them, but if he sits down, he often gets two or three come to sit next to him. They'll lean on him and put their arm round him, or stand next to him with arms round his neck. If he's not sitting down, they'll go to him to open their crisps or show him their reading book etc. I've seen loads of photos from behind of him and various little ones which look far more loving than any I've seen.

I think maybe PH might have had a private telling off about the whole fiasco.

I think the pp is right that KC will be trying to draw a clear demark(le)ation around an issue his name has been dragged into.

I agree.

Wasn't that supposed to be the big "one year to Ingriftus" gig but it was eclipsed by ANL loss, insulting the judiciary, etc

Plus - he didn't turn up for the launch of the "Spirit of Invictus" train because they wouldn't close Euston station for his "security".
