Something that strikes me is their inability to play the long game. They've spent the last few years attacking W&K and throwing them under the bus without any thought to the fact that they are the ones who will be in charge pretty soon and probably for quite a long time.

I'm not a massive fan of the Royal Family in general but they really do keep an eye on the future and make decisions for long term benefit. H&M make quick snap decisions without thinking how it's going to affect them later on.

It's so foolish, isn't it? Apart from being cruel and nasty, it's just idiocy! W is going to be in charge, and they've treated him and Kate badly.

The letter calling them private citizens and not public figures plus Andy Burnham referring to their security as a private matter are the first steps towards them being told their security is for them to sort out and at this time RAVEC will not offer them round the clock security.

I think Harry wants to raise his profile by arranging an outing for Remembrance Sunday and him putting feelers out was a part of the reason the letter was sent. As ex Army he wants to be seen on that day and he won’t want to just nip along to the Stow on the Wold War Memorial and lay a wreath. He wants to be at a big event eg the National Arboretum to make him feel Royal but will not be attending on behalf of the Royals.

If he can’t find a role to undertake that day it will really hammer home how far life has changed for him. He is now reduced to signing the Tower Studios name as a client with several other names already in the same letter of the name. I tried to see if I could recognise the other clients’ names but I couldn’t.

"I think Harry wants to raise his profile by arranging an outing for Remembrance Sunday and him putting feelers out was a part of the reason the letter was sent."

Good point. The letter was sent out to military officials as well.

This point also needed clarifying because the Invictus Games (created for Harry when he was expected to be a lifelong working royal) involve governments, ministries of defence and the military in their organisation and Harry has tried to exploit this "grey area". It's why he and Meghan have been invited by foreign governments who want their veterans to participate in the Invictus Games on "quasi-royal" visits, with the Ukrainian former prime minister even refering to them as "Your Royal Highness".

With the Invictus Games being held in Birmingham in 2027, the UK government and UK military will be involved.

Nothing says lack of planning or forethought like deciding to move to another country with two small children a few days before school term begins.

Even the poor pups will be confused and unsettled. Some neighbors of ours just moved house and said their little dog is distressed and unhappy with the abrupt change.

I think you're spot on

I think the letter from BP earlier this week is just step 1 in a planned sequence of 'sanctions'. If HAM don't take heed they are going to find out what steps 2, 3 & 4 are beginning with removal of titles I would think (with celebrations in the county of Sussex if I'm not very much mistaken)

Totally. Their impulsiveness has been a factor from the very beginning. Harry in particular seems unable to see the consequences of his impulses - rather like a very young child. He also appears to think that everything is reversible- you can damn your nearest and dearest to the world and then pretend it didn’t happen, or expect forgiveness.

Cleary, when renouncing the royal trap/cage in 2020, he didn’t realise that this had implications for his children too, who can hardly just become carriage-riding, balcony-appearing royals if their parents have rejected that life.

H and M won’t take advice from anyone, either in royal life or in California- they think they know best, and that’s been their problem.

The military connection is very important to him. Maybe because when he was in the army it gave him structure and something to do?
He should know that he can't tout around for a senior military position.
He had one, Captain General of the Royal Marines, but chose to walk away.

Jadedmoorhen · 11/09/2026 07:44

Isn’t public figure a bit like national treasure, it’s not something you can choose to be or appointed as.

It just smacks of them thinking that just by existing they are more special than everyone else and deserve status. It’s arrogant.

I think the military connection is important to him because it's his only selling point.

I'm pretty sure he would have had structure in his life growing up and when at Eton. With two young children, he must have some structure to his days. He could have had so many opportunities to do so many good things in his life, but he blew it.

Yes, you're right. I think the military thing is also about wearing a uniform and displaying medals. Maybe that helps with his whole status thing.

Passingthroughagain · 11/09/2026 07:52

Harry has rather loftily released his "September engagements" diary to the Telegraph. He's got an Invictus spin-off event at a school and then the WellChild event he was already down to do. After the letter and his pissy response, he'll probably find his engagements for the coming months are equally sparse. No charity that relies on public goodwill for donations is going to risk the backlash of being associated with him post-letter, and it's quite staggering he can't see that.

Hasn't Richard Branson distanced himself as well now?

Edited to add: it does further demonstrate their "act now, think later" mentality. If they'd planned this return properly, instead of doing it on the hoof, he'd have lined up more events. Which makes me think they must've been triggered by something to rush back, and not just the looming start of a new school term.

His list of engagements made me laugh! A quasi Court Circular. However, very sparse. I wonder how he fills his days?.

Chewing his nails (he did it a lot in the Netflix doc) and huffily (he's very huffy) checking his messages constantly in the hope Willy might ever reply.

Just how they like it!

Internationally recognised self absorbed, over entitled clowns more like! Bloody idiots!

I often wonder . . .

If, when they first left this country, they had found a more modest but naice place to live and had settled down quietly, they wouldn't have had to fork out for salaries for a 'team' and their expenses would have been so much cheaper in general.

They had a lot of money to begin with and, if they had lived more modestly, but extremely confortably, could perhaps just have lived off the interest from his various inheritances. I would even go so far as to say that if they had done this, KC would have been very happy to top them up from time to time, perhaps pay for his granchildrens schooling, for instance

They would have been out the public eye and the people back home in the UK would have wondered about them fondly from time to time and hoped they were doing OK

It's a lovely dream, isn't it . . . .

Whenever you think they couldn’t sink any lower, down they go! Astonishing!

This is just so true!! I thought their disaster tourism was about as low as they could go, yet they keep on and on 🤯

And I've just remembered the Vicar was very encouraging in his efforts to sign Kurtin up for vocational training at the local college

Perhaps he would like to take the pamphlet round to H and help him choose a suitable course

There, that's another problem solved

I think that’s going to be a rich seam.

Well, they had no intention of living modestly or out of the public eye. What's important to them? Royal status, publicity, and being perpetual victims.

ImpotentPublicFigure · 11/09/2026 08:05

RAVEC will carry out continuous assessments of security. I imagine that it very quickly gets stepped up if there is a recognised threat, then reviewed before stepping down. They won’t be thinking “we know there is a high risk to person x but we won’t do anything about it until we have a review meeting next month, hopefully they won’t get attacked before then”.

In other words, absent of increasing threat, I very much doubt HAM will get more security following review. They might get less. Mostly it will be about reviewing allocation of personnel.

Absolutely!

But I can remember thinking, very naively of course, at the beginning of all this (just after the Sandringham summit IIRC) that they were seeking a quiet life

Just shows how wrong one can be sometimes, doesn't it . . . .
