Kind? He has shown quite the opposite

Not in person generally. When he’s whining about his life or waxing poetic in spare, yes.

But I think in person without the cameras and without the wife he’d be like the old jolly Harry.

also minus the substances.

I appreciate that -but MM has got two titled children who will hold American citizenship that she has to bargain with.

Sarah Ferguson's daughters were also titled and then higher up in the LoS than Archie and Lili are now.

I don't think the 'old jolly Harry' ever really existed. He was a creation of Palace PR. He wasn't magically transformed being a fun young man into a petulant brat who thinks the world exists to serve him. That's who he has always been.

It's as though they believe that referencing "security," and in particular "the security of our children," is an all-purpose Get Out Of Jail Free card to be played in all situations. Even when it has absolutely no logical basis or connection with the scenario whatsoever.

This weirdly reminds me of my SIL. She would make endless terrible and selfish decisions, and regularly demand that her family bail her out lavishly. As soon as they did, she would have another blazing row with them and cut them off again. This pattern repeated for many years. My SIL's Get Out Of Jail Free card was her son: anything which SIL wanted was dressed up as "for DNephew" in some tenuous way. Poor DNephew was just a pawn to be deployed to manipulate other people.

I can honestly see some parallels with a lot of the behaviour here.

What a bullshit argument. How would notifying the school make a difference to security. They are absolutely ridiculous.

AlexandraCarrington · 11/09/2026 22:05

It was only a month, she married in July 72 and William died in August 72.

But Richard of Gloucester didn't come into the dukedom until their father died in 1974.

Is the Montecito school going to be pursuing them for 2 x a term's fees in lieu of notice?

bluegreygreen · 11/09/2026 22:07

Being honest, and having spent an inordinate amount of time around men with substance abuse issues, I think Harry would be very kind.

I haven't noticed Harry being particularly kind.

Neither have I noticed him having the people skills, the ability to understand and respect personal and professional boundaries, or the ability to work effectively with different groups of people that would be needed when dealing with such vulnerable clients.

While I think the charity (hypothetically speaking) should hire someone else instead, I do think Harry was probably quite fun.
Age does a number on lots of people, and he has married badly. If he'd married a nice, home counties, posh but dim girl who wanted a simple life, i think he'd be exactly like we remember him.
He was led by his wizened todger to a very strange place (do only old people live in Montecito?) and it doesn't seem to have suited him at all.
Smoking weed legally instead of a pint at his local every night probably hasn't helped.

The school would probably be legally obliged not to divulge the family's personal plans. At the very least, if as suggested a lot of the children are from 'celeb' families, then it would be a very bad look for school staff to blab to the press about such matters.

It really does seem to have been a mad rush. But then, so was their original flounce. But this time it's worse because two children are being uprooted from their routines and friends. Yes I know children are adaptable, but you don't spring major change on them if you can help it. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they flounce back to California just as suddenly, and with just as little thought for their children's well being.

But once they've been settled in school here for a while, they could be said to be normally resident in the uk and she couldn't just remove them without H's agreement.

He's 41. Hardly ancient.

And while I agree that Meghan has brought out the worst in him, the problem is what we 'remember' is a PR creation. Everything that's come out in the past few years makes it obvious that he's also been a selfish spoiled brat. Just with a better support system.

Was busy buying assorted birthday and other cards today. Was tempted to buy this one for Harry and send it via BP. I love the misty background reminiscent of one of Charles’ paintings of Balmoral.
Got a bit too much of the ginger fluff up top though.

Yep, that’s my thinking also.

I think he genuinely cares about the wounded veterans, for example. I think he can connect with people.

I also think the other things we see and criticize.

Two wolves, so to speak. People are many things.

Sorry, last comment on this.
The joyous faces when it was Harry, William and Catherine, before this whole shitstorm, couldn't be faked. He was fun. He may have been infuriating and "had his moments", but he was fun and much loved.

Age 5 in England is compulsory school age, if home ed you can officially deregister if you want, but as yet there's no official home ed list as such, you just have to get able to evidence that you're providing a full time education.

Checks on this varies. There's more home elders than there used to be post pandemic which then creates a separate issue of children missing in the system but anywaaaay.

@jeffgoldblum Jeff might lock me in the tower, and rightly so, for the derail.

To link this back full circle, the abeyant ones could try Europe. Some countries there start much later AND if you go back a few generations in the Windsor bloodline it's European turtles all the way down anyway so he could claim he's always been into family genealogy. Hashtag authenticity.

Yes I remember a case of a child being 'home schooled' where the child was murdered and the murder and subsequent abuse fell under the radar. Anyway must get back on topic

My sense of him then and now is based on what I’ve seen of him, though.

and the jolly old Harry feeling comes from the many photos of him laughing and joshing with his brother and sister in law. I genuinely don’t believe that could have been all PR.

But Charles had Duchy of Lancaster money to draw on. H doesn't have anything like that amount of money to part with.

There would have to be an advantage for the institution for KC3 to provide a pay-off on H's behalf.

Meghan does.
Plus it’s 30 years later - attitudes have changed. Social media reports everything -true or not. Fergie also had a lot of love for the RF -esp the late Queen,
Meghan doesn’t have any time for any of them -a Meghan book will be vitriolic.
Do they really want to risk that?

No, but it's easy to laugh and lark about when everything's fine.

Behind the scenes, Harry was the same nasty, entitled boor he is now. Remember all those revelations in 'Spare' , such as the one about mocking the teacher with scoliosis? He's never been a nice guy.

Absolutely true. It's strange you should write about her now because I've just been watching the 9/11 memorial event that was held in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace this morning

The Duke & Duchess of Gloucester were there, standing throughout the whole event. They are 82 & 80 years old. They do so much, quietly & respectfully, and without much press coverage

I happen to know that the Duchess of Gloucester is very kind and classy. Also, she is Danish born.

bluegreygreen · 11/09/2026 22:19

Perhaps people are reading a different job description to the one I've read.

The one I've read required significant skills in working with vulnerable people and helping them manage their way through services which are often complex.

But, at the moment it’s only been weeks.
Plus -even if it had been a year, who is going to stop her at the airport taking her children to the USA??
Lily has never previously lived here and was born there. Is it really a fight worth having when they could pay her off AND shut her up with an NDA?
Im sure Harry would think that’s worth £20 million.

Honestly yes I think they would risk it.

Meghan had very little contact with the royals other than Harry and she's already said all she has to say about her 5 minutes as a royal. It's all very old news now. She may indeed have much to say about Harry but I don't think BP would much care about that. I really don't see them being blackmailed by the threat of some 'tell all'. Nor do I think they would care about the children being taken back to America. But it's all hypothetical.

Placemarking, gave up on the last thread on page 28 after reading umpteen pages of pigeon chess. Hoping this one hasn't also been chessed. 👋🏼
