This was their final roll of the dice. Nothing had worked out for them in California. All the big deals are gone. 'With Love, Meghan' was a bust. As Ever flogged some jars of jam initially to their diehard fans, but there aren't enough people buying to make it a long-term success. They've alienated and pissed off the rich and influential and they've been called out repeatedly in the entertainment industry bibles. She's a bully, he's clueless, they're toxic to work with and for, they reek of failure. So they had no other options open to them except this - coming back to Blighty and hoping to wheedle their way back into the RF - and Charles has just firmly shut the door in their faces.

I'm pretty sure they weren't expecting that. After all, there is no precedent for such a thing (mainly because there has never been a need for one before). I think they'd thought they could bring their faux royal schtick to the UK and it would all work out, because no one said anything when they did pranced around in Colombia, Nigeria, Jamaica, Australia, making out that they were visiting royal dignitaries. But Charles has no say what happens in other sovereign nations - he does here - and he's shut them down. They can live here as private citizens, visit charities as private citizens, but they aren't working royals. Their plan is dead in the water.

William was only just fifteen when she died. So she decided that for a 14yo and a 12yo. Way to mess up both your kids. Perhaps it goes someway to explaining H's resentment, if he grew up being told he should be king.

In the past you'd pack your undesirable relative off to some remote part of the Empire. But I don't think any part of the (former) Empire would have him.

That lot never have to call themselves anything, everyone knows who they are. They never, ever have to introduce themselves.

Agree. What does it have to do with Charles financially if the Sussexes were to divorce? She can’t get a settlement from her father in law just because he is the one with more money. Yes there might be a one off “goodwill” payment, as he clearly doesn’t want to see his grandchildren without a decent home, but that would be it

The gala dinner at the Raffles Hotel in London in September that I think was a fundraising event. Harry was expected to attend and it was scheduled for the week that he was normally in the UK for Well Child. There were rumours weeks ago that Meghan wanted to attend (launch her comeback) but that organisers were struggling to sell tickets as people didn't want to be part of the "HAM show" - although I think Harry alone would have been welcome to attend. I don't think that it had anything to do with William though.
