@bluegreygreen thank you! 'Official' engagements eh? Why are they official? Why aren't they just engagements or events? TBH I think the tabloid press is encouraging all this nonsense by reporting things in this way.

I don't actually think they even need to be "engagements." They're just "visits."

Using the word "engagements" (let alone "official engagements") is just a royal-territory land grab by HAM.

On a purely personal level I'd have thought any woman would prefer a husband with more intelligence and integrity, but even if Meghan knew what integrity is I doubt anyone with it would consider her an option

Unfortunately if she has any kind of narcissistic tendancies, a better marriage in her eyes would just be a new source of clicks/merch ops/another wedding.

Idk if she is, no pile ons for armchair diagnosis I'm just saying, surely when you marry a prince you know it comes with certain obligations in return for shiny things and fancy freeloading.

If he does work for free it’ll cause a big headache for the palace. The big argument to keep the current royal family funding model is usually “but they do so much for charity”. Harry doing the same for free will be undermining that and be the counter argument in any anti royal debates.

They need him to not do this or if he is, for it to be a failure. They need the crowds to not show up, the press pack to fail to be interested. No articles about visits with clicky links to high street versions of Meghan’s posh outfits.

(for what it’s worth, I don’t think Harry would be doing this deliberately to undermine the rest of the family, I don’t think he’s that deep.)

I doubt it. I've just checked Yougov:

Popularity Disliked by
H. 27% 43%
M 18% 61%

Not exactly crowd pullers are they?! And any self-respecting charity is going to give them a wide berth.

I feel your pain having just come back from my mother's house 💐

Not my Prince - he's a private individual , as am I , and simply bears the honorific "Prince" because he is KC's son. He does not speak or carry out engagements on behalf of the Monarch nor the Government.

(Oh memo to self - be a bit more lighthearted in the spirit of things )

Not my Prince - He's an entitled spoilt little twunt.

(Not sure I've nailed it there either 😂)

I assume this Royal Rota he tried to send his engagements to (is there a source for that BTW) is the same one he grudgingly went to the back of the aeroplane when he and M were doing their S.A tour , and said to them they hadn't been invited. At the time he was undertaking a visit on behalf of HLMTQ - of course they were fucking invited. I believe his rudeness was noted with some astonishment at the time.

Ooooh maybe MM has gone quiet because she too is very rural now in her cottage idyll and finding for herself the joys of an English country mobile phone network. Making preserves. As ever.

I love the idea of the HAVOC approved security detail a bit like Dad's Army .
H - Err I might have a credible threat on the phone, it's on speaker , they're saying I have PPI - is that the same as IPP, good right? - and they want to know my name to confirm .
Captain Mainwaring - Don't tell them Harry.

Oh for the days of 00s political satire. Imagine this in the hands of Dead Ringers.

Maybe she actually has to take care of her own children and cook and clean. That'll be a shock for her. Apparently they are struggling to find staff.

@CoffeeCantata , of course, no one is going to pay PH for charity appearances. Just like no one pays the 'working royals'. But his constant media coverage will make a mockery of the 'working royals' concept because he'll be doing the 'work' they do whilst being royal.
The 'working royals' give the impression that their favour is carefully bestowed and curated for 'worthy causes'. Harry supporting any cause will undermine that. (surely, at root, all charities are worthy ...)
And if there's some disaster, e.g. Grenfell Tower, there's nothing to stop Harry (disaster tourist) from making an appearance around the corner from a 'working royal' ...
Since he's not encumbered with pre-planned events and security, he can pop up anywhere ...
Media thrives on controversy so anytime they can cover HAM, they are stirring the pot and boosting their clicks.

I don't think he'll do any work of any sort without financial recompense. They are both completely focused on making money.

Yes, thanks Jeff, and as BWLT says, maybe if the title had included several of the more hackneyed jibes we could avoid the pigeons and seagulls! Maybe

Frothing and spitting vitriol and bile about a young couple we don’t know and letting them live rent-free in our heads whilst approving of Andrew and calling Camilla Queen when she’s just someone Charles had an affair with when married to St Diana of Kensington.

😂

LOL - since when are HAM a "young couple"? - they are a couple in their 40s who have spent the past 7 years playing the "victim card" - Meghan is older than William and Catherine.

When will they stop behaving like stroppy teens and launching petulant twitter wars and briefings? Why don't they simply grow up and finding something to do that doesn't involve "playing royal" - a job they denounced and walked away from 6½ years ago?

Gonners · 11/09/2026 18:44

That People link is interesting ...

princess-diana-preparing-prince-harry-be-king-believing-shy-prince-william-didnt-want-top-job-friend-says

It strikes me that William was not so much "shy" as well-advised, sensible, and taking full advantage of being able to keep out of the limelight before the full lunacy of being the immediate heir kicked in.

People genuinely worried about their security do not announce where they are going to be. But Harry is probably now emailing the Home Secretary and RAVEC that his risk has increased because his future whereabouts are known. I hope someone from the Met / local police / MI5 is giving him a lecture on how to not increase his own risk. It clearly needs spelling out to him.

Exactly!

They deliberately compromise their own security by announcing itineraries, engagements and movements to the press so that they can can ensure their favourite paps are on hand - and later whine about it in the press! 🙄🙄

Think about past few months...
We don't know what the Wales family did in the school holidays (apart from a week at Balmoral).

Catherine managed to climb the 3 tallest mountains of the British Isles in almost total secrecy.

Catherine has made 2 unannounced visits this week.

Charlotte and Louis have returned so school quietly.

Compare to HAM who announced exactly when they were leaving the US (to ensure a frenzy on Flight Radar). They clearly tipped off their WhatsApp group that they would be arriving at Birmingham Airport rather than Heathrow to that a photo of their motorcade could be taken .... this is not how people genuinely concerned about security act. This is the actions of people who want to create drama and ensure press coverage act. 🙄

AlexandraCarrington · 11/09/2026 18:47

No he won't. Working royals support their causes and patronages consistently over years - decades in some cases. They work behind the scenes as well as just turning up to visit somewhere.

And if they do make a one-off visit somewhere, it's for a purpose, not just because they fancy doing a bit of charity work. Like Princess Anne visiting a Jewish community centre in Manchester recently. A visit from a high ranking member of the rf has far more impact than a visit from H&M.

No it won’t because, as the poster you are replying to says, the actual Royals don’t cost the charity anything either. I know who I’d choose 🤪. I do agree that Harry isn’t deep enough to deliberately undermine the RF

@BasiliskStarethe whole idea that H thought he should have had the opportunity to clarify some points in the letter blows my mind but you are right, it’s like the ‘collaborating’ with the Queen and ‘service is universal’ statement.

Truly - they have an over-inflated sense of their own importance and no respect for the monarchy.

In fact they devalue the monarchy by refusing to refer to QEII as the Queen or the King by their titles - instead it's "Harry's grandmother/father"...
firstly - showing no respect to the constitutional positions
secondly - their narrative always positions the monarchy in relation to themselves ... rather than the King it's Harry's father (so not as important as us) - yet insist that those around them use their titles🙄

They really haven't woken up to the fact that they are in Beatrice/Eugenie territory now. Beatrice grew up as 5th in line and was not a working royal - Harry is currently 5th in line and now a working royal and in the next 15-20 years will fall lower - but he retains his delusions of grandeur.

Wondering if we will have to provide Harry with NYPD officers when he is here in NYC. Hoping the police commissioner will remember he is a private citizen and refuse.

bluegreygreen · 11/09/2026 14:01

Looking at the Invictus website, there seems to have been a UK team for each of the Games.

From the Vancouver Games site, The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 were held from February 8-16 and featured 534 Invictus Games competitors – wounded, injured and sick serving members and Veterans from 23 Nations
so serving members are part of the teams.

Members join Invictus as individuals for community support, help with rehab etc (these are ongoing activities separate to Games), so the team would not be 'sent' by the military.

Thank you for clarifying.

Having just seen the Princess of Wales at the Royal Marsden Hospital today, it's so obvious that she has a very strong emotional bond to the hospital, staff & patients because she had her cancer treatment there. It's so obvious that she will carry on supporting them in whatever way she can, visits, fundraising etc

I think one of the Royals said a long while ago that Royalty are there to "shine a light on what other people do" and that's what the POW is doing at the Royal Marsden.
