Prince George at Eton

Can anyone explain why Prince George is boarding at Eton when the family home is just minutes away across the river?

Seriously this is damning by faint praise. She was not dancing. She closed an umbrella whilst walking in heels. Something any woman used to wearing heels can do.

Exactly my view. All that pain and effort. Hormones, sleepless nights and white stuff down your best jumper and then send them off just when you can actually have a conversation. Beats me. I’m dreading mine going back to uni .

I'd say the child is hopping for joy to get away from home for a while. I'm not saying he's unhappy at home, just that the feeling of sheer freedom to associate with his peers without paps and the world looking on must be so exciting for him.

Prince George seems like a happy, pleasant and kind young lad who will grow into adulthood and his unususally planned out future with confidence and grace.

BUT and it's only me wondering, what would happen if even at his young age he just refused to do any of it? What if he panicked every time he was forced to do anything that required appearing in public, had meltdowns at the thought of boarding school and his family had to accept he just wasn't up to any of it? Whether it was down to an anxiety disorder or some other sort of issue or if he just literally wasn't able to cope.

Would they have no choice but to pass it on to Charlotte?

Both his parents went to the top boarding schools in the country, it's the done thing for families like William & Kate. It's an upper middle class rite of passage

Right, but you will still encourage and facilitate them to go to university because you believe that’s best for them and it’s what they want. You’ll miss them but you believe that going to uni - living with some independence but still part of a supportive community - is a good experience for them.

Can you understand that some people believe the exact same thing about boarding school? That you know you’ll miss your child but you also believe that a bit more independence from family, more time with friends, more time for all the opportunities at school is going to be good for them?

Yes and I think most people who had the ability to enroll child in one of the most renowned schools in the world would take the opportunity.

Absolutely! I would jump at the chance for my dc if I had the means! All the opportunities, amazing education, beautiful surroundings. Any child who gets this is extremely lucky & I would love it for my dc.

I suspect that there was more going on over the centries. They were both from two very small towns in Southern Europe.

You do know that boarders can have contact with their families whenever they wish, have long school holidays and weekends and it's not the end of your job as a parent?

I somehow doubt George Cambridge / Wales would have been the one. Don't be daft.

No I don't think he gets a free pass actually, but if he did I'd say that he'd be benefiting from a top education, which is a plus for a future king.
However, Eton doesn't need the kudos of educating him, so I think if he hadn't got the marks and shown his potential, he wouldn't be in. They learned their lesson with Harry!

I am sure Eton would have admitted him anyway, but George may be academically gifted. I do think Eton would not wave it's full boarding policy for George.

I think that William and Catherine and George will have had long discussions about him going to school long before now. I'm pretty sure it was a decision that wasn't taken lightly and I'm sure George would have been involved in that decision. They seem to have pretty conventional ideas about bringing up their children and the days of hands off parenting by the royals ended with Charles x

None of us know anything about this. This is pure fantasy time. It may be a lucky guess, or it may be wide off the mark, none of us would know as these people are strangers to us.

I wonder if George is going to grow his hair long and end up with that shaggy hair look most of them seem to have?
When my nephew started he looked like this, all rosy still baby cheeked with a neat hair cut - 6 months later, chiselled face and the shaggy teen hair.
