King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

I agree with you but the DM has a habit of running least one if not more made up stories about them for years.
just for info found out the DM supported Oswald Mosley in the 1930’s they did eventually drop them think after WW2 started. They have been supporting the Right for a long time, somthing I was unaware of.

The 1930s? So.. not currently.

damnatiomemoriae · 08/09/2026 12:50

Fair enough IcedPurple.

I think there may have been some scope if it was offered but it may have been very limited.

Perhaps the late queen watched Suits and the adverts and 90210 and thought she was on safe ground - in that the offers were unlikely to flood in.

But the DM haven’t invented this letter 🤔

This. They have returned to the UK as private citizens. They are not entitled to police security, publicly funded or otherwise, are not entitled to use HRH, are required to obey the same laws as the rest of us and they do not represent the King in any way.

I'd say that's crystal clear then. Icily so.

Every British citizen is entitled to security if they are at risk, Salman Rushdi was protected for years. Then he wasn’t & look what happened.

They wanted Windsor Castle and that was refused . They were offered Frogmore which was completely redesigned and fitted for them but it wasn’t good enough .
They wanted to get married in WA or St Paul’s but were told no but still accepted a £30milion + wedding in beautiful St George’s ( where Edward and Sophie were married) scathingly described it as a spectacle for the masses .
Meghan spent more on clothes than any other Royal woman but complained she had to wear tights.
I could go on .
The problem was that they were/ are below W and C in the Royal hierarchy and M’s ego could not tolerate that .,

They were also offered the Gloucesters' apartment at KC - a very generous space. The Gs were prepared to downsize. This was rejected by H&M.

Yes, it's based on risk, not status.

No. Plus I thought the DM favouring the Blackshirts before the war was common knowledge. Obviously not.

Maybe a list of numbers for replies to that same old same old is needed as well
1 it is based on risk not status
2 the letter is from Charles as King
3 Camilla is Queen because
etc etc
😆😆

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 08/09/2026 12:56

H&M’s statement of “surprise” just demonstrates their stupidity all over again.

In saying so they destroy any faint hope of being able to pretend they secretly knew and agreed what the palace has published which might have preserved a crumb of dignity.

They have also invited public derision by thinking that KC needs to forewarn them about a letter when just weeks ago they didn’t tell him they were moving home considering it must have been in the works at the time they sat having tea with him at Highgrove.

The double standards are the same old thing from them.

They really should remember “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.”

Wait till posters find out who ultimately funded the legal action against ANL …..max Mosley! …..the son of …..Oswald Mosley!!! 😱

I know! ☺️
Plus add one for Harry and Meghan left because they didn't get the biggest mansion available.
Or they left because in the 1930s the DM had a certain editorial stance.

Every British citizen is entitled to security if they are at risk, Salman Rushdi was protected for years. Then he wasn’t & look what happened.

But only a tiny number of people are guaranteed security because of 'who they are'.

Harry and Meghan are not among that group.

For want of a better phrase, I believe that ship has long sailed.

Agreed but here’s another quotation they might consider in redeeming their reputation
”A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step”

Maybe the 1930’s one should be an add on. Like 12a or something. It’s a bit niche…😆

Yes, that's quite niche.
I have heard it before though. Someone disbelieved the letter because it appeared in the DM. 🙄

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 08/09/2026 13:09

Their spokesperson is seemingly saying they didn’t get a chance to clarify some points in Charles statement. I can’t even begin to understand that. There is nothing new in there, it is a reconfimation of what’s already agreed, years ago.

and why would Charles consult with them, it’s not like they consult with Charles when they make their accusations.

The royals lay a wreath on behalf of their particular regiments on behalf of the military, it’s not on behalf of themselves, Harry has no regiment and no military affiliation, he can’t just lay a wreath on behalf of himself.

edit to apologise for the excessive use of “behalf” .

Edited

Yes, while ordinary members of the public stand quietly by showing their respect for the fallen.
Throughout the country towns and villages carry out similar ceremonies at 11am on Rememberance Sunday, when local dignitaries lay wreaths on behalf of their respective organisations.
Harry does not represent anyone other than himself so he is not entitled to lay a wreath during the service. If he really wants to, he could wait until after the rememberance service, like the rest of us, but I'm not sure he'd be so keen to do that.

Bloozie · 08/09/2026 13:18

King: issues mildly worded statement essentially clarifying the status quo.

Gutter press and online nutters: ha! Take that, Meghan!

Touch grass.

IcedPurple · 08/09/2026 13:19

At 3.09 p.m., the couple’s team were able to get hold of Prince Harry, who had been in a meeting, to inform him and share that they were asking about a couple of points in the letter. But at 3.11 p.m. U.K. time, they were told that the letter had been circulated to the media.

This is cracking me up.

Firstly, there is no 'team'.

Secondly, Harry was 'in a meeting'? That's a fanciful way to say he hadn't stumbled out of bed yet.
