King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

But why aren’t the RF paying them to go away given that they were so willing to do this for Andrew?

I’ll ignore the Andrew bit and stick to the matter at hand.

Why? Because the demands for money would never ever stop. It would be akin to dealing with blackmailers in my opinion.

And I personally would not wish to give one penny to someone who made unfounded accusations about me to the world. Nor would I be amenable to paying off people who purposely tried to destroy everything I’d worked towards.

Tell me. Would you do that if someone had done the same to you? Honestly? With the threat of continual requests for money for the rest of your life?

Sorry but take away the official working royal bit and the headlines will stil read,

Forgiveness does not mean acquiescence to someone’s demands and being a walk over.
Forgiveness is powerful in the Christian faith, but it really is on the basis of the ‘forgivee’ showing true repentance. Not potentially. opening yourself wide open to be treated in the same manner again and again.

People have no idea if Charles has ‘forgiven’ Harry. He may have in a private capacity, which has zero bearing on whether you keep someone at arms length or not, or listen to their demands 🤷‍♀️

Money wouldn’t do the trick, because what they want is attention.

Couldn't care less as it has not and still does not affect me.

I just hope that KC can see both his sons, their families and his grandchildren.

Why do you care?

For example; I don’t mean this to be disrespectful to Charles in any way, who is entitled to privacy regarding his health, but some commentators in other countries think it’s very odd and anti-democratic, that the British public isn’t allowed to know more about the state of health of someone who occupies such an important state role and who heads an institution for which they are paying collectively £132.1 million in taxes per year.

Does it really matter what 'some commentators in other countries' think about our laws concerning medical privacy?

The King is entitled to privacy concerning his health, like anyone else in the country. If he is unwell such that he is unable to carry out his role, there are provisions in the Regency Act for that eventuality.

Anyone else think all of this shows we'd be better off as a Republic. I couldn't imagine my younger children having to bow to their older brother. It just seems anachronistic and Harry and William are victims of this. Take away the royalty bit and they'd just be rich people with a fancy house, like the former royals in countries like Germany. They still do charity work.

Ageee, who cares what others think, Charles has been open about his health, and he has a right to privacy, he’s still a human being.

i find it sickening to see people baying to hear about his health and trying to make the ridiculous behaviour of his son related to it. He didn’t even tell his father he was coming back and Charles clearly isn’t at deaths door, he’s hugely active in terms of engagements.

What I meant was that I don't care if they have acted like assholes. It's not up to us to care or to forgive. The general public seem to dislike them for saying things that hurt the RF but it's up to the RF to forgive (or not). Not us.

I’m only going by what you posted - not what you ‘meant’ because I can’t read minds.

But the “bowing”. is just a part of the job. We all
do things in our jobs that we have to do as part of our remit. It doesn’t mean that one son is somehow superior to the other. That is where Harry is getting it wrong. He isn’t capable of seeing the bigger picture and that the bowing (which isn’t compulsory anyway) is a mark of respect to the job, not the person

@smilesy There are things like this that William could remove though. He probably won’t but as I said earlier, we are running out of working Royals. I’m not many years W&K will be pretty much on their own. At this rate, it will be 20 years before their dc do anything meaningful. No one else will be doing much in 20 years. So what then?

Working royals pretty much serve their whole lives until they cannot.

i think W &C - even if they were on ‘their own’ - would be preferable to having H&M on board.

They have shown that they don’t bring anything to the table. They likely would cause some sort of offence or incident due to their inability and reluctance to learn.

I think there are arguments for being a republic (although honestly I'm not sure it's actually worth the administrative minefield of doing it; a slimmed down version seems wise though) but this is honestly the least of it. It's only a performative bow or curtesy on proper occasions; for the most part I think they just do a head dip when they first meet or possibly don't bother at all (I read an article on it once but now I can't remember). It's not a big deal.

One reason Harry has lost popularity is what seems like endless whinging that his brother ranks higher even though as a prince he still has all the privilege without the responsibility (as if William could ever have got away with some of the stuff Harry did in his youth!) and he's hardly the first sibling to an heir apparent or monarch. Most of the others seem to have been able to accept the system without taking it personally...
