King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

Elizabeth did not write a book complaining about her parents, unlike Charles and harry.

Charles didn’t fantasise about assassinating his mother in his book either.

Someone upthread suggested that the letter was sent 'in collaboration with' or 'in conjunction with' the Sussexes.

I think the reporting (from all sources) is clear that is not the case. The information is reported as coming directly from the King via his Chamberlain. The letter is also reported as having been sent to the Sussexes as well - it has now been clarified that it was sent at the same time.
At least one source adds that there was no discussion over the contents.

Yes , it will be interesting to see which charities align with him, and I don’t know how the military regards the invictus charity work Harry is involved with

it would be strange however if invictus isn’t well regarded or at least appreciated by the British military

Oh it is.

The problem is H&M. They have made Invictus more about them than the people Invictus is supposed to be about.

Redacted information regarding other Invictus Games has not inspired confidence.

KC3 isn't just a father of two adult men, he's the monarch. In his capacity as the King, he's simply reiterating the terms of the Sandringham agreement ie the HAMS are not working royals, are not able to use HRH, don't qualify for state funded security (unless agreed by RAVEC) etc. And given that statements from the monarch are as rare as rocking horse poo, it seems to me that KC3 has received information which has triggered this statement to be released. It's a smart move but not 'spiteful' or 'undignified.'

I agree. I think BP has been receiving requests for clarification from organisations along the lines of "H's people say we have to <dothis> when he visits because he's Royal. How can we arrange for <dothis> to happen?"

Where <do_this> incurs costs and services.

No you haven’t! , it was an attempted kidnapping and a policeman ( security) was shot , then famously Anne refused to exit the vehicle “ not bloody likely!” And a member of the public ( ex boxer forgotten his name ) stepped in! , the queen personally and publicly thanked him!

I recall more than 1 person being shot. The would-be kidnapper, Ian Ball, was released from a secure hospital in 2019 , 45 years after his attempt to kidnap Anne.

Remember her leading the competitors around? In shorts? And when they were in Nigeria, there was an Invictus banner being displayed. She was front and centre, H. was at the back among a crowd of other people.

Mr Markle's illness, on the other hand, sparked no such rapprochement.

No $$$$$$$ to be had from Mr Markle's illnesses. he is of no use to them hence he is ignored totally.

Yes, I don’t know where the “collaboration” narrative appeared from, for starters as if the HAMs would collaborate with such a statement and their “friend” has already clapped back, the statement was news to them as it was to us, that has been made very clear.

WitlessCheeseEatingPeasant · 08/09/2026 00:33

My husband just said this guidance from
King Charles is like having to call your friends to say “Hey Man, if my brother in law calls asking for money…”

Indeed.
There were a lot of posters trying to give that impression.
"This isn't news, the Sussexes wanted this statement put out and it's just a little bit of admin clarifying things. Nothing to see here, move along!"
I love that people think that by making a lot of noise, nobody will notice what's actually happened.
Hey, you! Don't watch that, watch this...!🎷
It's Madness, I tell you.

damnatiomemoriae · 08/09/2026 00:34

I find it somewhat curious that they seem very willing to forget about the alleged terrible behaviour by the RF (and the establishment) and seemingly want a relationship with them but won’t forgive Mr Markle for staging photos.

A nonsense really. More so considering how easily she finds any lens.

It certainly seems it could be about usefulness and money.

Why shouldn’t he mark armistice day with his charity? Solely In the capacity of a non-working royal trustee

if charities and organisations actively want to associate with him they should be allowed to - he might be a non working royal but he not a pariah…..

Maybe he will be like that character Jonathan Carley who kept dressing up as a fake Admiral and gate crashing remembrance day events amd was arrested.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/09/2026 00:38

When a Royal visits, the Lord Lieutenant for the area makes the arrangements and is the Kings representative. They have an office who liaise with the Palace. H&M are not part if this set up. I can see why some Lord Lieutenants may have been asking questions given the publicity around H&M. They now know what the position is and so does everyone else. They make private arrangements for visits.

The royals lay a wreath on behalf of their particular regiments on behalf of the military, it’s not on behalf of themselves, Harry has no regiment and no military affiliation, he can’t just lay a wreath on behalf of himself.

edit to apologise for the excessive use of “behalf” .

ClairDeLaLune · 08/09/2026 00:46

Note the word “current”. I wonder if this will change in the future….

That is true! But a quick google search told me he could apply to march in the parade as a military veteran

I dont really understand this. Will it have been put out there in consultation with them. Or will it have come out of the blue. It seems to have a rather snubbing, brutal edge to it. Or am I reading too much into it.

Yes …with the 10.000 other veterans! 😁 Harry would love that.

DryadsRest · 08/09/2026 00:55

The thing is providing Prince Harry acts within the law there isn’t much the royals can do if various charities or organisations want to fete him - or if Prince Harry or Meghan are perceived to behave poorly.

I think that much is pretty clear the statement itself says as much, it’s telling the world any of their charitable endeavours are outside the WRF and they don’t represent the monarch and they are private citizens, no one is trying to stop them doing anything.

No not in consultation with them at all, it’s been explained extensively upthread.

From Rebecca English

The letter was sent to the duke and duchess's team shortly before it was made public, without any discussion over its contents, the Mail understands.
