King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

It seems pretty routine and straight-forward; one can hardly get excited about the King giving guidance if there have been several requests for guidance from him. It is an unusual situation, even though honestly everything he has said is already in the public domain.

(I WAS momentarily excited when I thought it was actually an order! Just for a second I thought maybe he'd do an off-with-their-heads 👑 or at least go with a fatwa or something, but noooooo.... )

Off with his head would have made things a lot more interesting!

I agree surely anyone who operates in the capacity of a lord lieutenant or organises state functions would be aware that theyre non working royals anyway.

maybe there is more underlying the letter than we realise…….

Not sure why you are quote quoting me I haven’t mentioned armistice day.

Apologies, I was responding to VivienneMary further down the thread of posts you were responding to

Are people still going on about this? it feels like there's been a thread slating them every single day since they left the UK.

No this thread is about an important statement issued by the king , and yes people are still discussing exactly why the king was forced to put out a statement of this nature because apparently his own son doesn’t understand the consequences of his own actions!

jeffgoldblum · 07/09/2026 23:46

Pallisers · 07/09/2026 21:35

I think a surprising number of people miss the days when the king could have ordered them sent to the tower.

Riiiight

Unfortunately yes it’s right! , you see when a woman marries a man who becomes king , then she automatically becomes queen.

DryadsRest · 07/09/2026 23:48

upinaballoon · 07/09/2026 23:41

Do you think there was something in the statement which implied that he can't mark Armistice Day as a private person, linked to a charity? I didn't read it as if he was being prohibited from supporting charities in a private capacity.

Apologies I was responding to VivienneMary further down the thread who said the following

Viviennemary · Today 22:54
I've just been watching Sky news. One of the royal commentators reportedly said 'nothing has changed yet everything has changed.' Jenni bond iirc. The King has spellt it out. Go away grifters and don't think you can hang on to the coat tails of royalty. You can't. Harry already saying he will be marking armistice with his own military charity. And this letter has gone out to all military chiefs. It's huge.

OneLilacHedgehog · 07/09/2026 22:50

Yes they just get their staff to issue statements and take lots of photos once a year.

You do know people had TV when Elizabeth was queen?

My family got our first one in 1963, ten years after QE2 was crowned.

I have no idea how many households in the UK had a TV in, let's say, 1965. But the go-out-and-be-seen model was developed in the days of radio (and deference).

And, actually, the working royals do still go out and about on official visits; they use SM as well, not instead.

Oh have a day off, Charles! You should be glad anyone wants to ‘work’ for your dysfunctional family at all.

This is my day off! , you?

he not a pariah

True. I’m sure some charities will be glad to have him Dryad.

Just not military ones. And I’m not sure that military personnel and veterans would appreciate him laying a wreath.

That has to be laid with respect and recognition and with decorum. He is not respectful (or respected), he only seems to recognise what impacts him and it is suggested he has not only displayed a lack of decorum but common human decency.

He does not represent the forces and he does not get to make a mockery of those who choose to serve their country or misrepresent their service to the world.

You may think he is not a pariah. Opinions certainly differ on that.

Well, if Camilla isn’t Queen, who is?

Me obviously! , there was a private coronation and everything! , nobody knew though ! , it happened three days before the spectacle for the masses!

Do Beatrice and eugenie get any royal protection? They use their titles and are non working royals?

No they don’t.

JudgeJ · 07/09/2026 23:55

stuffedanimalsandchocolate · 07/09/2026 16:35

This is ridiculous. It's an administrative clarification that they continue not to be working members of the royal family.

It's not some kind of gotcha to Harry and Meghan, it's been issued so that people stop asking the royal family about them

It also is a reminder to H and M of what was passed at Sandringham over which they have chosen to ride roughshod for the last 6 years. It will be interesting to see which groups do fawn to them, it would be a death knell to any further involvement by the real Royal Family.

MidlyConcerned · 07/09/2026 22:06

For those who don’t remember, when KC got married, us gullible public were told that Camilla would NEVER be Queen and that when Charles became king she would be called the Princess Consort.

However the MiB played a blinder with the media and managed to change public opinion so that on the eve of her Platinum Jubilee, the Queen said she wanted Camilla to be known as Queen Consort when Charles became king.

When Charles became king her title was initially Queen Consort but over time the palace started calling her Queen Camilla. If you google Camilla having Covid, the BP press realise calls her Queen Consort Camilla.

I mean I would never call her Queen but she does have my respect for keeping her head down and mouth shut unlike her step son!!

Mid , you are an intelligent poster , you must know that all women who marry a king are automatically queen , due to the sexism in society, a ruling queen is denoted differently than a queen who is the spouse of the king, all queen’s who don’t reign in their own right are queen consorts , nobody actually uses that title, did you ever hear the queen mother referred to that way?

Considering the slating and lies they have handed out since leaving the UK it's hardly surprising that there's a degree of reciprocation. If they can't stand the heat they should keep out of the kitchen.

Not that I am aware of no. But then there are many false statements thrown across this thread.

I am here with an opinion that differs from yours, as all things internet chat go.

I think your response is a classic example of "people in glass houses...." but you do you.... Sleep well ;-)

Yes you have had a post deleted.

HMQE said plenty. I suppose recollections still vary.

Including " Meghan is evil."

AcquadiP · 07/09/2026 22:46

To me the statement seems preemptive rather than reactive, which is unusual for palace statements. I think they may have been influential in KC3's decision to issue it now.

Either way Ham were clearly getting notions above their station & the letter was to take the wind out of their sails

I think it’s rather undignified and a bit spiteful to publish such a letter regarding your own children, regardless of what you’ve been through with them. Most ordinary people would never do it. No love lost in that ‘family ‘.

I think it’s rather undignified and a bit spiteful to release…a global tv interview….a Netflix documentary series….countless interviews…a book …regarding your own father, family and siblings, regardless of what you’ve been through with them .most ordinary people would never do it.no love lost in that “family”.

Yes , it will be interesting to see which charities align with him, and I don’t know how the military regards the invictus charity work Harry is involved with

it would be strange however if invictus isn’t well regarded or at least appreciated by the British military

King Charles would do well to follow his mother's example and simply say nothing.
She reportedly thought he would not be a good king and I tend to agree. He did not have to say anything.

No that was Diana and Andrew.

jeffgoldblum · 08/09/2026 00:10

Strawberrycups764 · 07/09/2026 23:06

Well to be fair it was never a proper agreement was it if most reports are true? It was a fait accompli which Harry was forced to accept when he had made it clear that he always wanted to carry on representing the late QE2. Didn’t the MIGs only present him with one option when he thought many more would be discussed?

There was only ever two options…in or out …harry chose out.

jeffgoldblum · 08/09/2026 00:11

PrincessofWills · 07/09/2026 23:07

And that is a total misrepresentation . . .

No it’s factually true , those of us who followed all the court cases have read the findings.
