but you do know that some commentators see the Commonwealth as “Empire 2.0.”

Might be worth noting that the originators of this phrase were more than happy to be president and vice of the Queen's Commonwealth Trust.

A position that incidentally coincided with a happy promotion of one of Harold's grifts partnerships and an inexplicable 98% of income being spent on staff salaries:

Their hypocrisy is off the scale.

Fair dos Cuppy. ☺️

One little observation. We also call female officers ma’am here.

Perhaps they got confused with that veteran march thing…. Easy done. 😉

Catching up . Can someone explain why M marched ( in that ridiculous outfit) in front of the veterans ?

Given a bit of leeway , she did do some very positive work with the Hubb Community Kitchen set up with women displaced after the Grenfell fire.

Meghan championed the project and a cookery book and later on she launched an initiative during the pandemic with the group to prepare and deliver meals to vulnerable low-income families across London.

And H&M forged great links to "Himmah” which is a grassroots charity and food bank operating in Nottingham and are still working with them I believe.

MM made a personal donation to upgrade the Salam Shalom kitchen which is an inspiring joint Muslim-Jewish initiative; the message of which incidentally is highly pertinent today.

And H subsequently made a substantial personal donation to the charity to fund more than 650 emergency food parcels for vulnerable families facing poverty and social exclusion.

And MM became Patron of Smart Works, a UK charity that provides high-quality interview clothes and coaching to help unemployed women return to the workforce. If I recall, she teamed up with high street brands to launch a capsule wardrobe and for every piece purchased, a donation went to the charity.

In addition to the Smart Works patronage she was patron of Mathew which promotes animal welfare and community veterinary services, patron of the National Theatre , and patron of the Association of Commonwealth universities which champions accessible higher education in commonwealth countries.

So seeing that she only worked for the RF for twenty months, and she was pregnant and a new mother for a large part of that, and she did four foreign tours during that time too:
-Ireland, July 2018
~the Pacific October 2018 (Fiji, Tonga, NZ and Sydney)
~Morocco February 2019
~South Africa September and October 2919 (Angola, Malawi, Botswana)

Given the above, I think it’s incorrect to say that she didn’t take on a JOB to use your capitals MaturingCheeseball.

Edited

It's odd though that any WORK like this when done by the working royals is dismissed as them not working / not doing a job. Odd that isn't it?

Sorry mylovely, I don’t think I or any other rational person will ever be able to explain that particular situation! 😬

Totally agree. I struggled to explain to an elderly relative why M was wearing slashed jeans when she first attended the Invictus games and this has flummoxed me even more . . . . .

twatwrangler · 31/08/2026 21:36

I can explain why the march happened.

Heaven forbid that any veterans steal the limelight when everyone should know that they are the important ones and the little people are 3rd and 4th fiddle. There can be no other reason for doing it.

This is why many people don’t like them much.

Everything is about them.

When you choose to make yourselves the focus of an organisation for people who actually fought and were injured in the line of duty? It is quite the choice.

Doing so in a play suit and placing yourself front and centre? Even more of a choice. Not alongside mind. Front and centre.

Front and centre.

Choices.

Always the same choices.

And always another PR disaster.

Birmingham will be no different.

Birmingham will be the very same. Probably a more revealing outfit and Hamlets will be out in force too. Same old shit. No lessons learned

twatwrangler · 31/08/2026 21:51

It is curious why some would also post things about Invictus Canada having redacted information with pictures like this?

Just something from social media of course - but why would someone go to the trouble if everything is on the level?

What could have to be redacted? Why does it allegedly cost the equivalent of $118,000 per competitor? Curious.

Would it not be better to have a smaller games and give each vet competing $50,000? With another $50,000 going to a group who caters for the needs of veterans? The other $18,000 going to the venue/running costs? Are the veterans still having to arrange insurance?

Will the Birmingham costs be redacted too?

What can you mean?

Isn't it obvious? She's just adorable, it's a treat for the veterans and she's also showing the world what's wrong with the stuffy old British royal family.

This is the way we do events now - we hit the ground running, or marching, wearing a cute playsuit.

KittyTinker · 31/08/2026 21:54

It might be me but I always felt that the handing the very expensive coat to the mum carrying her newborn baby at the Invictus games felt very contrived. If I had been that mum I think I’d have felt really embarrassed that someone felt they had to intervene to keep my baby warm, especially in front of an audience. The coat was also really long and looked uncomfortable to carry with a baby underneath.

twatwrangler · 31/08/2026 21:55

This picture is troublesome. A mock up sure but what truth is there to it?

Hopefully everything is more transparent in Brum.

I assumed this return was a re-set but it certainly doesn't seem to be. Same old crap. Different country. It's worse for RF and UK as they too close to home

I would love a reporter to shout out an embarrassing question to Meghan or Harry when they're out and about, just as they asked William 'Are you a racist family?' the morning after the OW interview (which I thought he handled very well, poor chap).

Something like: 'Why have you returned to the country you said was racist and too dangerous for your family?' or, less deferentially, 'What's gone tits-up in the States for you to be back here with your tails between your legs?

I don’t know how to share videos but it was at The Hague Invictus 2022. She was wearing a white suit beneath a camel coat. As the group are about to walk out of a building she takes her coat off and hands it to a woman holding her baby and the group walk out to take a route around the track.

It is one of the images that came up when you search for Invictus Canada redacted. A little rabbit hole if you will.

As said, clearly a mock up.

But are the figures correct? Why would something like this be mocked up if the figures were incorrect? Why would anything be redacted? Surely those front and centre wouldn’t be living the high life on the backs of veterans? Surely surely not?

As said. Curious.

I’m intrigued.

Some posters on these threads have followed a YouTuber who has looked at the finances behind the Invictus Games.

I think she posts as Rachel the Curious Pilot or something similar (I haven't looked at the channel yet). She is apparently quite detailed.

(Is this correct @BemusedAmerican, @AutumnCrowOnTheMold? I think you might have looked at her.)

BemusedAmerican · 31/08/2026 22:33

Yes, @bluegreygreen This is her youtube:

She's done several financial videos. She is very meticulous.
