I don't think there are many who would disagree that there probably needs to be some modernisation - but there are ways of doing things in a thousand-year-old organisation.

We also know that they previously had a Maori person marry into the extended family, and have two half-Maori grandchildren who appear at family events, so there is experience within the wider family of dealing with different cultures.

I can believe there are many difficult things about the RF

strange and regimented Christmases at Sandringham
some arrogant personalities (although one of those has been cancelled, as we know)
rather a lot of shooting and fishing etc, if that's not your cup of tea
and other things!

But one think I will never believe is that they are straight-forward, crude racists, for many reasons.

Prince Philip's so-called racist remarks were unfortunate - and some believe they were made partly to wind people up (not the other races!) - but I don't believe he was actually racist either. He was always deeply interested in and very respectful of indigenous peoples. More than once he expressed the view that modern Westerners were the crazy ones and that tribal people, for example, lived more authentic, valuable and less selfish and damaging lives.

I don’t disagree with that as it was impulsive, unwise, naive and rash, but unfortunately damaged people do rash unwise things when they feel backed in to a corner. And when forced to make an appointment with their own father 28 days in advance!

I feel that some but not all of the blame should lie with how BP handled this situation. They have enough staff fhs who are former diplomats, civil servants and military personnel, well versed in people skills. They should have handled it better.

Given a bit of leeway , she did do some very positive work with the Hubb Community Kitchen set up with women displaced after the Grenfell fire.

Meghan championed the project and a cookery book and later on she launched an initiative during the pandemic with the group to prepare and deliver meals to vulnerable low-income families across London.

And H&M forged great links to "Himmah” which is a grassroots charity and food bank operating in Nottingham and are still working with them I believe.

MM made a personal donation to upgrade the Salam Shalom kitchen which is an inspiring joint Muslim-Jewish initiative; the message of which incidentally is highly pertinent today.

And H subsequently made a substantial personal donation to the charity to fund more than 650 emergency food parcels for vulnerable families facing poverty and social exclusion.

And MM became Patron of Smart Works, a UK charity that provides high-quality interview clothes and coaching to help unemployed women return to the workforce. If I recall, she teamed up with high street brands to launch a capsule wardrobe and for every piece purchased, a donation went to the charity.

In addition to the Smart Works patronage she was patron of Mathew which promotes animal welfare and community veterinary services, patron of the National Theatre , and patron of the Association of Commonwealth universities which champions accessible higher education in commonwealth countries.

So seeing that she only worked for the RF for twenty months, and she was pregnant and a new mother for a large part of that, and she did four foreign tours during that time too:
-Ireland, July 2018
~the Pacific October 2018 (Fiji, Tonga, NZ and Sydney)
~Morocco February 2019
~South Africa September and October 2919 (Angola, Malawi, Botswana)

Given the above, I think it’s incorrect to say that she didn’t take on a JOB to use your capitals MaturingCheeseball.

Love them or loathe them, H and M are actual people not caricatures, parents of young children, and just for basic human decency now I think enough is enough, and it’s time to lay off them.
When will the public and press be satisfied with taking them down? When one of them has a mental breakdown or worse?

Their return to the UK has been a big surprise to most people - maybe even the RF! I think, in those circumstances, you have to cut people a bit of slack in getting interested in what on earth is going on. It's sensational - I mean, they left, badmouthing the UK, the press and the RF for being racist etc etc, calling William 'trapped' in his role...and now they're voluntarily back to stay. What's going on? I've not given them much thought for some time, but I'm honestly intrigued. What are they planning...because I'm sure they're up to something.

Meghan doesn't like this country, she didn't get on with H's old friends (because of their huntin; and shootin' so , er, the Cotswolds is going to be fun for her!) neither of them have any kind of discernible job, yet have somehow found an expensive home in an expensive part of the country. They've dragged those poor children out of their comfort zone, away from the only grandparent they're allowed to have contact with...it's bizarre behaviour, like them or loathe them.

Even their super-fans, the Sussex Squad, are baffled on Celebitchy, and largely blaming Harry for bringing M back into the lion's den, as they see it.

We are only a load of randoms on MN. Our comments on here aren't going to bother, or even reach, H and M. So I'm not apologising for that. I do agree that the press will have a feeding frenzy, but quite honestly, H & M should have realised that. They court publicity but want to control it, and you can't do that.

I'm honestly intrigued by their return to the land and culture they dislike so much and I do admit I want to know what's going on.

Basically, they loathe us but are prepared to use us for whatever else they can get.

Yes many commentators see the Commonwealth as such. However the Commonwealth is a voluntary association and so anyone is free to leave ( and some have) . I think calling the Commonwealth Empire.20 is a lazy trope. It is also true that some nations are very happy to be part of the modern Commonwealth. One example - rather than these nations having to maintain a Supreme Court , they can use the UK's related sister institution, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council (JCPC), as their highest court of appeal. Anecdotally my son was speaking to a lawyer who practised in the Bahamas and said "What's not to like?" . Gabon and Toga joined in 2022. Zimbabwe was suspended because of human rights and I think their readmission is pending. So my point is eg Bouzy's Cole's notes explanation of the modern Commonwealth doesn't quite pass more critical analysis than a segment on the H&M docuseries. People will have their opinions on the Commonwealth , but the original Empire it isn't.

(I'll just give shout out to my son who once explained to me how some who try to explain the Commonwealth do not have all the facts , or choose not to use them ) I'm not an expert so happy to be contradicted on my views.

All the attempted derailing by HaM super fans does not change reality.

Feeding the media creates unnecessary drama as the media will publish HaM's Whatsapp PR talking points and then publish another 5 articles some pro, some con to maximise the monetisation from each HaM whatsapp. HaM are being consumed by the fires they start and the end result will not be good for them or their children.

Either HaM find good advisors and actually listen to these advisors or HaM will be trapped in a PR nightmare of their own making.

Mozambique and Rwanda are two other states who were not previously associated with Britain but are in the Commonwealth.

There are also several countries which are either formal applicants or have expressed an interest in joining.

I remember being on several RF or breakaway RF inspired threads with you, and having a laugh. I thought I waved to you the other day.

I was simply answering the Q that you asked. If you knew the answer, and didn't like being given it, I wonder why you asked it...

Unlike you I wasn't on these threads regularly for the past 6 years, which seems to be what you were implying. I had covid badly then cancer and was in and out of hospital for a few years and just wasn't on MN. And part of the reason is also I get very bored of the same points being made over and over when there is no new action and I don't like blatant unjustified vitriol (about anyone), especially if it's misogynistic.

I have always been primarily critical of Harry of the two, who I think would have been a loose cannon regardless of Meghan or not, and who I think actually controls a lot of what they do. But I don't have much time for the RF as a whole.
