Yes the Sussexes were very magnanimous as you put it about Lady Susan, aged 84, but they didn’t seem to think it mattered that they themselves wanged around generalised accusations of racism towards a family while’s head was a woman in her 90’s and who’s husband was on the verge of passing away. Nor did they think it seemed to matter when it was “inadvertently” revealed that the alleged racists were a man in his 70’s and a woman recovering from cancer. Their magnanimousness overwhelms me

They may have had no option but to be magnanimous, smiley
I've mentioned this before, but after the racism allegations (and especially after naming Charles and Catherine) I expect they'd have been asked where their proof was, and if they didn't have a good answer there may have been consequences the rest of us won't know about

The degree she claims she has is not actually studied in her university. All buried

Come again, @Starryfifty? Are you sure?
I haven't seen this said before but am always happy to learn

Given a bit of leeway , she did do some very positive work with the Hubb Community Kitchen set up with women displaced after the Grenfell fire.

Meghan championed the project and a cookery book and later on she launched an initiative during the pandemic with the group to prepare and deliver meals to vulnerable low-income families across London.

And H&M forged great links to "Himmah” which is a grassroots charity and food bank operating in Nottingham and are still working with them I believe.

MM made a personal donation to upgrade the Salam Shalom kitchen which is an inspiring joint Muslim-Jewish initiative; the message of which incidentally is highly pertinent today.

And H subsequently made a substantial personal donation to the charity to fund more than 650 emergency food parcels for vulnerable families facing poverty and social exclusion.

And MM became Patron of Smart Works, a UK charity that provides high-quality interview clothes and coaching to help unemployed women return to the workforce. If I recall, she teamed up with high street brands to launch a capsule wardrobe and for every piece purchased, a donation went to the charity.

In addition to the Smart Works patronage she was patron of Mathew which promotes animal welfare and community veterinary services, patron of the National Theatre , and patron of the Association of Commonwealth universities which champions accessible higher education in commonwealth countries.

So seeing that she only worked for the RF for twenty months, and she was pregnant and a new mother for a large part of that, and she did four foreign tours during that time too:
-Ireland, July 2018
~the Pacific October 2018 (Fiji, Tonga, NZ and Sydney)
~Morocco February 2019
~South Africa September and October 2919 (Angola, Malawi, Botswana)

Given the above, I think it’s incorrect to say that she didn’t take on a JOB to use your capitals MaturingCheeseball.

After reading the many post on MM ‘shortcomings’ this morning l then hit upon this gem of a post.

And, I would now like to declare I think Meghan is equally as horrible a human being as Harry. Like really does attract like doesn’t it!
She is an arrogant, self aggrandising gold digging bully. I also suspect she’s wanting as a mother -we will have to see over the next few months how much time she spends with two small children who have been removed from everything and everyone (pretty much) that they knew. I’ll give my opinion on her mothering skills atChristmas.
It's always nice to have something to look forward to!

@Hostamenace689 - do you get paid in money or fruit spread for your posts?
You might as well piss in the wind as you won’t change our collective views on here.
Nice of you to do a full list of everything she did but that only amounts to 83 engagements. So just over 4 per month. Hardly staggering is it? Especially considering her clothes cost the Prince of Wales well over £1million during that period.

bluegreygreen · 31/08/2026 14:49

having encountered dreadful racism in the British press

Which 'unfortunately' was not bad enough to stand up on its own in that section of the Oprah interview - instead, the section about the 'racist UK media' showed headlines of UK papers altered to make things appear worse, and US and Australian tabloid headlines mis-sold as UK ones.

”Norland nannies are very "high status", and while that would doubtless appeal to H&M it also means they'll get the pick of jobs and might not consider these two ideal employers”

This.

Oh so much this.

Yes and my reply included a long list of things to demonstrate that take on advice or not, she did work hard and achieved quite a bit during 20 months of her time working for the RF. In fact given that she was pregnant the RF piled quite a bit on them. Saying she was new to it all she did well imho, and if she ignored advice she considered outdated or simply superfluous, so what? I’m sure the Commonwealth wouldn’t have been brought down by MM refusing to wear tights or the correct shade of nail varnish.

Besides wasn’t Lady Susan Hussey originally assigned to give advice to MM when she first arrived? Lady Hussey who had to resign from her role at BP for touching the hair univited of Dr Ngozi Fulani, the CEO of Sista Space and repeatedly asking her where she was from, even though she was born and raised in England?

Now H&M were very magnanimous about this incident and said they loved Susan Hussey and hated the roasting she got in the press aged 84, but it does demonstrate that the sort of advice MM was receiving may not have been entirely up to date or appropriate?

Oh Ngozi Fulani - the liar. Bit of a grifter too wasn’t she?

Yes, we remember her. 🙄🙄🙄

CoffeeCantata · 31/08/2026 14:55

It’s well documented that some of the traditions of the RF are fossilised and outdated given the late Queen’s long reign and KC3 not a young man himself and not a moderniser.
But that's not Meghan's concern. Yes, I don't think many people would disagree with you that modernisation was/is is order after the record-breakingly long reign of Elizabeth II. But it's got to evolve, not happen overnight, and in any case, why would it be the business of the latest person to join the institution? In any job I've had I've had my own thoughts, yes, but I've watched, listened, learned and waited before I open my big mouth to tell more experienced people where they're going wrong. Sure, some things might have been outdated, but what I'm saying is, it's not really for newbie Meghan to start chirping about them even before she's officially joined the RF..

Why Is it so outrageous to suggest that the RF were a bad fit for Meghan and vice versa? Why is the fault all hers?

Same as above really. It's bad manners. You don't walk into someone's home and start telling them their decor is old-fashioned or that the place smells and can they get some scented candles in, do you?

The fault isn't all Meghan's. It's very largely that of her idiot husband. He should have put her in the picture before their marriage. There are only 2 possible reasons he didn't and neither of them show him in a good light

  1. He was too cowardly because previous gfs had run away, dreading the life they'd have in the RF. It was selfish and cowardly of H to dodge this vital issue with the woman he claimed to love.
  2. He was so thick that either he didn't understand himself how things would work (M having to defer to Catherine etc, having to observe dress codes) and there's some evidence for that, or that he considered he and M were just so utterly marvellous in every way that all would fall before their feet in grateful thanks and they'd be able to have their way about everything.

But I don't think it's the RF's fault in this case. The possibility of having a mixed-race woman join them was a really positive one and I think they tried to do all they could to make it work. They knew it would be a great PR opportunity and make them more interesting to BAME people in the UK and elsewhere. It wasn't M's ethnicity which was the problem - it was her difficult personality and her very quarrelsome family background.

Wow. What a nasty comment. And snobbish and insular too.

How extraordinary that a 36 year old divorced American actress brought up in California with a successful career behind her shouldn’t have stood trembling for her engagement photo in a Cordings suit and look demurely down at her sensible Home Counties footwear forgetting to put her shoulders squarely back like nanny had taught her?

What a shame she isn’t what you expected and wasn’t a white upper middle class gal from the shires is what you really mean I think?

No, I mean she’s an egomaniac hustler who lacks the smallest modicum of class or common sense. Hope that clarifies things for you.

shockthemonkey · 31/08/2026 14:56

KittyTinker · 31/08/2026 14:30

If that was the case then I could see them raising it within the family or telling her friends but not going on Oprah and making a documentary about it and humiliating your husband’s family not to mention the backlash for the country.

HaM were also very stupid to conflate any remarks about skin tone with what they saw as the withholding of securidee and titles normally due to their children.

Either very stupid, or devious and shit-stirring.

smilesy · 31/08/2026 14:57

Hostamenace689 · 31/08/2026 14:14

I’m sorry but I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility that Meghan came across some examples of “conscious” or “unconscious” racism when she worked for the RF.

Harry admits he “he didn't see what I now see” having been brought up within the institution.

Prince Philip was notoriously racist in public several times so heaven knows what he was like in private and no, being old and ill doesn’t excuse you, when you have lived the life he did with many opportunities to travel abroad and experience other cultures.

There was the incident involving Princess Michael of Kent who sparked public outrage in December 2017 by wearing a vintage Blackamoor brooch to a royal Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace that was also attended by Meghan Markle. I mean, honestly?

Then the Susan Hussey incident.

To be fair, Prince Charles and William have done a lot to counter this impression but you do know that some commentators see the Commonwealth as “Empire 2.0.” anc the entire institution as racist given that so much of its wealth was acquired by slavery.

And if MM did come to hear comments about her child’s appearance being under discussion. being mixed race herself , and having encountered dreadful racism in the British press, and racist threats from right wing extremists , it’s understandable that she was sensitive to them.

I don’t see why that is so outrageous or hard to understand?

You are missing my point. They were magnanimous in their attitude towards Lady Susan, who had publicly demonstrated her dubious grasp of what was acceptable with her hair touching etc, but made no comment at all following the accidental “leak” of who the alleged RF racists we’re. So why was what Lady Susan given a pass by them because , old, but not the elderly King and a cancer survivor who are only “alleged” to have said something racist?

twatwrangler · 31/08/2026 14:59

“Either very stupid, or devious and shit-stirring.”

@AutumnCrowOnTheMold

“Meanwhile, the RF continues with Operation Grey Rock? (Hopefully.)”

Which gives me the impression that he really is cocking horrible (could be ‘they’) because lovely people are usually welcomed back with open arms and a bit of a fanfare.

Grey rock is for folk who have done you wrong. And for folk who are horrible self serving holes.

Basic human decency is for folk who also show it to others and carry themselves with a bit of class and decorum.

Not a nipple tweaking hedonist and his bob on a job partner.

I agree with that. If H was my family member and had been a lovely guy, this sudden change in his behaviour when he got into a relationship would have worried the hell out of me. I would actually make a point of maintaining some contact to make sure he was ok. He must have always been a bit of an entitled arse.

Agree with you on all points @CoffeeCantata .

I don't think there are many who would disagree that there probably needs to be some modernisation - but there are ways of doing things in a thousand-year-old organisation.

We also know that they previously had a Maori person marry into the extended family, and have two half-Maori grandchildren who appear at family events, so there is experience within the wider family of dealing with different cultures.

Oh Ngozi Fulani - the liar. Bit of a grifter too wasn’t she?

Yes, we remember her. 🙄🙄🙄

Yes, that lady was a bit of a mischief maker.

I'm not defending anyone touching someone's hair - that was not on: agreed.

But she went in traditional African dress, having changed her run-of-the-mill English name to a traditional AFrican one. Of course an elderly courtier might be forgiven for assuming she'd come from afar.

I'm not denying that Lady Hussey, bless her, probably needed to be pensioned off - it's a rare 84 year old UP person who is up to speed with (I'm sorry - I don'[t know how else to describe it...)'woke' ideas. But I think everyone involved, including H & M, thought she meant well. I think the problem was she had persisted in asking Fulani where she came from, and when she said something like 'Camberwell', she couldn't believe it.

I read an article about this incident (with transcript of part of the conversation) and the journalist got it right, I think. Lady H's fault wasn't based on racism but more accurately on 'classism', in that her insistent, repeated demands to know the answer to her question were rather 'de haut on bas', and probably forged over many years of having to make conversation with random members of the public. I'm sure she's one of those old UC people whose heart may be in the right place but her approach is no longer acceptable in the 2020s.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/08/2026 15:03

Why Is it so outrageous to suggest that the RF were a bad fit for Meghan and vice versa?

Personally I don't find that outrageous at all, @Hostamenace689 - in fact I think it pretty obvious that someone from Meghan's background would struggle to fit in with them and they with her

FWIW I don't believe she had the least intention of staying and think that the narrative she built was largely intended to secure the outcome she got, but even if I'm completely wrong there it doesn't change the fact that she willingly rushed into what was always going to be a complex situation without any apparent willingness to learn, and her fool of a husband abetted her

And no, after all the palace's cover-ups I wouldn't necessarily trust a word they say either, but didn't Harry suggest that in leaving they wanted a truer, more authentic life?

And yet they've told provable lie after lie after lie

MrsLeonFarrell · 31/08/2026 15:05

There's a lot of re hashing of very old ground today. To be expected I suppose.

It did bring up one thing I've never really thought about before. Meghan said that the only thing she asked about Harry was "Is he kind?"

Who actually replied yes? And when it did it occur to Meghan that they were lying? It's pretty clear from everything he has said since he left palace PR behind him is that the last thing Harry has ever been is kind.

She did she did!! And she climbed Mount Olympus and Zeus thanked her for her service and turned her into a god and all the argonauts were dancing in the streets of Delphi and all the trees sang beautiful music 🎶 and she was in many, many, televisual feasts for the eyes and taught Pericles democracy.

Let’s not forget she is the female equivalent of Nelson Mandela too, as demonstrated by the universal dancing in the streets when the people heard she was marrying into the RF.
