That Camilla Long article has some barbs, ‘Harry wants his kids to hang out with rich white kids” (have they ever hung out with black kids, rich or not, I wonder ?) ‘Harry wouldn’t want his friends kids to have a posher education than his own.

But this is the kicker LOL, says it all in one sentence.

‘The tearing up of everything yet again, including, naturally, their principles.”

I just don’t understand how any valid charity or organisation is happy to pretend Harry, or Meghan, are worth being associated with.

AtIusvue · 23/08/2026 12:00

Tom Sykes similar to
the last article but also:

  • pointing out Sussex sources telling the times that they will be here 6 months and feeding the NYT that they will only be here for the Autumn
  • How their story is already falling apart
  • They are chaotic and understaffed

‘Ever since the big royal story of the week was handed to grateful U.K. newspapers last Wednesday, suspicion has been growing that there’s more to it than meets the eye.
It’s now clear that the family is not re-relocating, at least not in the way any normal person understands the words “moving back.”
Sure, they will arrive on a plane at some point in the next week, and they will enroll their kids at a school where pupils wear straw boaters, but now their camp is telling the London Sunday Times that they might only be here for six months, while an official source tells The New York Times they are only here for the fall!

Frankly, this sounds about right. The Royalist would be amazed if Meghan can make it through November in the Cotswolds, let alone February, especially as it now transpires Meghan is no longer needed to act in the third series of Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemenfor the simple reason that a third series has not been commissioned.
Even Tina Brown, the sainted founding editor-in-chief of the Daily Beast, fell for that one. She touted Meghan’s new job as an exclusive revelation before performing a rapid, classic “reverse ferret,” trumpeting the news that the deal (or the non-deal) had fallen through.
Now the whole thing is unraveling yet further. The London Sunday Times has a source, described as close to Harry, saying they might only be here for six months. The exact quote reads: “It’ll be an extended period of time. It could be six months, it could be a year, it could be more. I don’t think even they know yet. They might suddenly go, ‘Why don’t we try Canada for a while? Why don’t we try Australia?’”
This isn’t a gap year, folks! You’ve got kids! Who puts children into a new school in a new country on the basis that the family “might” be there for six months, or might “try Australia” instead?
For a couple who have made mental health the centerpiece of their public identity, such a lack of focus on childhood stability and consistency is extraordinary. If the children are being put into school in Britain, it would be profoundly unfair to pull them out after six months without giving the thing a proper go.
The only on-the-record line I can find anywhere is a quote given to The New York Times by a rep who said Harry and Meghan have “decided to spend an extended period in the UK this autumn.” The autumn? Is that September, October, November? Is there a legal definition of fall?

Then there is the question of why they left California in such a rush. Nile Gardiner of the Heritage Foundation has suggested in The Daily Mail that it may be connected to Harry’s visa. I don’t know whether that is right.
What is clear is that a great deal of this looks like a massive PR operation designed to distract from a genuinely disastrous year, and specifically from Friday’s excoriating court judgment against Harry, which left his reputation in tatters. It was an absolute humiliation.
Much of my skepticism about all this comes from a conversation I had in March this year with a friend of Harry’s. I had been holding that material back for my book. I have decided to publish it now.
The conversation took place against the backdrop of the stalled U.K. government decision about Harry’s security. The friend told me, with some deliberateness: “If he doesn’t get the security, he will just go house hunting
Years after leaving Britain, after selling his departure to the Netflix cameras as a “freedom flight,” after arguing in court, in his memoir and in interviews that he and his family could not live safely in Britain without police protection, Harry was now “utterly determined” to start spending lengthy periods back home. With his children. Without security.
The security question remained his central grievance, the friend explained, but he was no longer prepared to let it veto his plans. If the establishment would not give him the protection he considered his right, he would “put it up” to them. He would buy a house, move into it, and essentially dare the local police force not to protect him.
He had a location in mind: the Cotswolds, close to his father’s home at Highgrove, where Harry was happy as a teenager and young man, where he drank in pubs with William in easier times, where he knows every lane. “He enjoys hiking and outdoor activity,” the friend said, “and is used to that pattern of life in California, where he walks his dog on the beach or hikes in the canyons.”

The friend told me Harry intended to spend “at least” a month in Britain in 2027 around the launch of the Invictus Games (which he hoped the king would open alongside him). The American school summer vacation runs from June to September, and in future he wanted to spend those extended periods in Britain with his children.
I noted all this. Then I asked what seemed to me the obvious question: what about Meghan? Surely London beckoned for her, if the business was to expand to Britain?
The friend shook their head. Harry “definitely did not” want to live in London. Too crowded, too hectic. The countryside was where he wanted to be.

As for Meghan, it was all about the business. If her As Ever brand developed sufficient commercial traction in the U.K., it might make sense for her to divide her time between locations. If it didn’t, the friend acknowledged, there was little “practical reason” for Meghan to be based anywhere other than the United States.
I asked again: so Harry would be in the Cotswolds, and Meghan would be in California, for weeks if not months on end?
The friend shrugged, without any observable discomfort, as though this were simply a practical solution to competing demands rather than a description of a marriage operating at very considerable distance. The following day, The Wall Street Journal published a piece raising, for the first time in a mainstream outlet, the possibility that Harry and Meghan might divorce. The friend dismissed it when I raised it.
That conversation is why I do not believe the story as briefed. The blueprint, as described to me then, was Harry in Britain and Meghan in California.

The idea that Meghan can go and live in the Cotswolds (or Australia, or New Zealand, or Canada) while selling a California lifestyle brand is absurd. As Ever is a Montecito brand based on jam, flowers, sunshine, and the canyons. You cannot front that from a rented farmhouse in Oxfordshire in November.
The Times’ source describes them as an “international couple.” I suspect it may turn out to be more of an international person.
We know Harry wants to come home. He has made it very clear how much he misses Britain, right down to that telling “currently I may live in the United States” in his Remembrance Day essay. He regrets burning his bridges with his father, not because he accepts he did wrong or because he feels guilty about what he inflicted on his family, but because he is running out of time to kiss and make up before the king dies. He has no friends in California to speak of, apart from David Langdown, who is his head of security and therefore an employee.
It is no surprise he is miserable. It is no surprise he is excited about coming home.

This is the Sussex routine in miniature. A great announcement. Everyone gets excited. Then the holes appear. Then everything starts getting walked back, and suddenly it’s only six months, or only the autumn, or only an “extended period.”
We are seeing how chaotic and understaffed they are. We are seeing, again, a willingness to feed the media things that are not true and then decline to correct them in any meaningful way. Anybody who has followed this story for the last six years knows they are prepared to mislead on matters big and small, and we have seen plenty of evidence of it before.
If William and Catherine have any sense, they will stay well away from all of it and allow it to implode, because that is what is going to happen.

It also demonstrates one great truth about the British press: newspapers will run any old rubbish in the middle of August, which is known locally as “the silly season.”
What matters now is what actually happens, rather than what they say is going to happen. The person who told me in March that these two people want very different things and are going to live in very different places is the one I’m most tempted to believe. If the family ends up needing to make some decisions about that, it will not come as a surprise.’

I really believe the visa issue is at the heart of this move, with the financial troubles, homesickness, education for the kids, no friends/life/success in Montecito contributing factors but not the deciding one.

Having navigated the US visa system, along with many friends who have done the same, (all with shit hot lawyers who work for big multinationals) it really isn’t easy, and something like drug use can and will get you denied or deported. Put Trump into the mix and it’s a recipe for disaster.

I think they have been forced into this move with Harry having to get out of the country ASAP. Neither wants to split (yet) so they all move back here, but know that this will never work for Meghan so have already got the wheels in motion for her to spend time in other places.

Yes - she has made being a mother a huge part of her identity, but I don’t believe for a second she would ever want to be a single mother, at least not with an ex who can’t set foot in the country she and the DC live in. She is far too self-centred, and while being a parent requires huge sacrifice and selflessness, being a genuinely solo parent requires much more and I just don’t think she’s capable of that.

Conversely, I actually think Harry could throw himself into solo parenting so even if she was at their “international bases”, he could and would step up to do what his DC needed. He would, of course, always have the financial security of his family to be able to do that, whereas Meghan wouldn’t.

Being a parent doesn't require selflessness or sacrifice if the parents are very wealthy. Neither Meghan nor Harry have sacrificed anything. She gave up a career before even marrying, by choice.

Long time lurker here, who now can’t resist commenting. Hope it’s ok to join. I’ve been reading the acres of press coverage in the papers and a couple of things stand out to me:

  • The Times quote that the timing is last minute, as like many other families, they’ve been waiting to hear about school places. How it’s right , that schools have their process and that they wait like everyone else. What a load of cobblers - I do not know of anyone securing school places in August. I’m sure it must occasionally happen, but it’s very very rare. Why print this without balance? It is really odd.
  • Harry, the media circus, the impulsive decision making, the mischievous streak, victimhood, plus huge charm and charisma - it all reminds me of Diana in her last summer. He’s def got less of the relatability and charm that she had, but there are echos of her character. Imagine if Diana had met a male equivalent of Megan? A US actor with a whole lot of ambition and baggage. Cue chaos.
EmpressSisi · 23/08/2026 12:06

If you look at all the recent articles, there seems to be this underlying theme that all is not quite as it appears, almost like there’s something else going on beneath the surface. They keep hinting at it without ever actually coming out and saying what it is. Which makes you wonder… what exactly is happening that they’re happy to imply, but not outright report?

🤔

Is it just me or with reference to the international bases it keeps summoning up visions of a nuclear bunker secretly accessed by the fountain in Montecito gardens. You know the kind of thing ...reminiscent of James Bond or Despicable Me !
It just sounds so ridiculously pompous

Well, this is the couple who told the world they were IPP's, invented an 'Office of the Duke and Duchess' in California, claim to have a 'Chief of Staff' and 'international press secretary' and one of whom had herself announced to an empty room.

So it all fits in with the pattern!

This DM article says that Bea and Eug have their St James Palace and KP housing costs paid for by the king and they are aware that William may not be so generous. It appears they - or Eug- are trying to safeguard this by a) not naming her new daughter after Sarah and b) getting an article in the DM saying that Eug and Harry are not as close as they once were.

Most friends and family will side with the crown for the status or the financial gain. Even those with sympathy for Harry will be wary of getting burned by the Sussexes treatment of ‘friends’.

Note that KC paying for Bea and Eug’s London bases puts him in an awkward position if / when his son asks for the same. That could be leverage to get a trust set up from KCs personal funds to cover decades of London housing costs. I don’t know if KC and William would prefer that to asking Bea and Eug to take on their own costs or leave the palaces.

The only people who will be interested in being friends with Meghan will be influencers and reality TV stars. The aristos will be loyal to the RF and A listers aren't interested in H&M., they bring nothing to the table except gossip.

That's interesting, because the Sussexes were always very pally with the Yorks.
Eugenie is wise to distance herself.

Good points. Very few of us had perfect parenting. I have consciously tried to be different to my parents. Like you, I wanted mine to have a better childhood than I did. However, that takes effort, determination, reflection and - dare I say it - intelligence.
Not some crazy privileged quasi royal upbringing with parents seeking constant publicity and validity.

I agree with you. I had a childhood that was a tale of two halves and it’s only now I’m a nana many times over that I think I’d be a better mother to my children now than I was at times despite knowing then what I didn’t want for my children.

A few weeks ago, before the Great Return blew up, a few of us were saying that the only brands or organisations who will work with Meghan are minor outfits for whom any sort of publicity is good. Established brands will run a mile.

Same here. Real aristocracy and real money tend to be very discreet. They won't want to risk 'sources' running to 'People' magazine saying that they were mean to the Duchess. Especially when there's nothing in it for them. 7 years ago they might have got an 'in' with the royals through the Sussexes, but now if anything the opposite is true.

If Meghan couldn't break into the Montecito set, she'll fare even worse with the Cotswolds set.

No it’s not normal to secure a school place in August. Schools try to wrap up their business before the end of term, which is earlier in private schools. I am inclined to think some strings have been pulled here. The school has opened itself up process the application and extra places have been found. I believe private schools have that discretion. I work in a primary school which regularly feeds children to the surrounding private schools in the area so I have an inkling about what goes on.

Their stories always fall apart, @Atlusvue, but then so do Tom Sykes's as long as he's stupid or greedy enough to present their dribblings as facts.
As I said before it really is getting ridiculous, and even I didn't think the media would be quite this manic

As for the York daughters "realising William may not be so generous", @Choux, I'd say the danger there is who else they might try to get money from, and I wouldn't trust that pair as far as I could throw them

I think they’re in it for the sport in a huge way and they’re probably sitting with a bottle of wine enjoying the entertainment. They really are that twisted.

But in a different note. I read that Harry and Meghan contacted the press and asked for privacy for the children. Now as far as I know the press aren’t allowed to print pictures of children anyway so why aren’t the editors in Fleet Sreet getting together and printing an article saying something along the lines of “now listen here you bampots, there was no need for you to ask because we wouldn’t/couldn’t be doing it anyway.”

Indeed they have, MissFenellaPrism, and while plenty of other RF members have very dirty "connections" I don't expect they'll risk even more coming to light

Going against myself here, but regarding old money's attitude to H&M I can just about see some of them softening if Charles is seen to enable their appalling behaviour, but as ever there's the question of what William's attitude will be given that his own reign can't be far away

I don't pretend to know what William's thoughts are, but I'm pretty sure they will

Béa & Eug were forced to be private citizens though. AMW demanded for years that they be working royals, but Charles vetoed it. Hence the free houses, as a sympathy vote.
Conversely, Harry made the very definite choice to be a private citizen.

That is right in my experience, especially the being shut part, but our kids school, which bills itself as international, does keep a small number of places open each year for parents who move late or unexpectedly in the year. Maybe they have found something similar.

Though if you read today's Times they are now saying six months, poor kids obviously and potentially poor school to let the circus in and get no long term benefit from it.

They might get into a school at short notice but leaving it at short notice will cost them. I think it is normal to give at least one full term's notice and to be charged a full term's fees if one doesn't give the notice in time.

I am sceptical enough of the H&M are on their uppers stories that I don't think a term's school fees will be a problem if they decide to leave at short notice. It's a drop in the ocean as Harry would say.

They really are disgraceful people. Uprooting the children at short notice, dragging them halfway round the world, and now messaging that it's not a permanent move. When their idiocy mostly rebounds on them, that's one thing. When it's the children, that's different. And despicable.

People keep mentioning the expense of school fees, there's another thread asking if they can afford private school 😂
Firstly, Charles will be paying the school fees and secondly, school fees are small fry to a couple who have been paying for their own security.
These families have millions in assets. Harry will be worrying that he might need to live off more than interest, worrying that he might need to chip away at his wealth. He isn't worried that he will need to switch to Aldi and downsize the car.

My take on the Times story is that they have seen the negative reaction from the British public and are going to pretend a departure from the UK was planned in the first place. Thinking they can just waltz into Australia or Canada without visas shows their arrogance. Poor kids.
