As well as being ill advised it's hilarious to see his blatant reverse ferret in action.

Like every other commentator he was completely blindsided by the great return but now it's all 'signs were there for those who know'.

Ditto the freedom flight to a golden future in California is now but a stage in their ever-evolving growth and change. Moving back to the UK, far from bring a retrograde step was always the plan.

Really who would believe this bollocks? Surely better to admit error and thereby actually seem like better people?

I believe it was always in MM’s grand plan to discard and deposit PH back to his UK family once the defective, debt ridden, STBXH was no more use to her. Expect PH doesn’t know this yet. She has form for this from her first marriage.

This is really true - children grew up much earlier in Diana's day than now. I am less than a year younger than Diana, but unlike her, went to a "bog standard comp"

In the mid-70s the majority of kids left school at 16 (nationally over 60%) to go to work. I remember being slightly surprised that the 2 brightest girls from my primary school class, who got into the super-selective grammar school, both left school at 16 after O levels to take up "good jobs" in a bank and didn't do A-levels.

Others went to FE college to do vocational courses - I remember some in my year were allowed to leave at the Christmas without taking any O-levels/CSEs to take up apprenticeships.

Nationally it was only 14-15% of the cohort who did A-levels.

So you have to look at Diana in that context that getting married 2-3 years after leaving home was not unusual - that she had been out on her own for several years. Obviously her family wealth made a difference to giving her more independence

  • allowed her a second attempt at O levels which she also failed
  • allowed her a term at finishing School in Switzerland
  • helped her to find live-live in work among upper class families age 17
  • family gifted her a 3 bed mansion apartment in Earls Court as an 18th birthday present - which she lived in with roommates until her marriage age 20.

You have reminded me of a contemporary at a well known girls’ boarding school who announced her engagement before we did our A levels.
Instead of revising she would leaf through Brides and Vogue magazine. I was utterly bemused by the whole thing.
We did have a couple of teenage pregnancies in my year (not handled well) but marriage????? She must have been no more than 18.
Though my own mother got engaged at 19, married at 20 and pregnant for her 21st birthday. As Mum so succinctly explained - if you wanted sex you had to get married back then.
I’ve no idea what happened to her (the teenage bride from school) , I’ve tried googling her name but of course I don’t know the married name.

Yes it’s called intergenerational trauma - hurt people, hurt people.

Her own mother was abused and then banished from her home and children.

PH is carrying on the tradition.

Explains poor behaviour but never excuses it.

It’s on each of us to do the work to prevent passing on our own dysfunctions as a consequence of our neglect / abuse to our own children to break the intergenerational trauma.

Yes, and Meghan had a very dysfunctional family herself

Delurking after many threads (I can't keep up!) Longtime appalled observer, critical monarchist, big fan of both late QEs.

Has it struck anyone that all the hype is over the top. HAM couldn't behave themselves and get on in Hollywood where they had more chance of success than they'll have in Blighty. They'll repeat the same pattern of behaviour but in a much more critical environment where, crucially, they'll be far more under the microscope than they ever were behind the gates of Montecito.

Neither of them can exercise any measure of discretion and the first time they blab to the tabs about someone they've met will be the end of their attempts to climb back into polite society.

They might find fellow company in the rest of the Z list celebs who are equally as indiscreet but I can't see the Cotswolds elite brooking any nonsense. I've a sister who's married into the properly posh crowd in Gloucestershire and they LOATHE social media exposure. It's social death to broadcast your friends information and the like and they are ruthless at excising anyone who transgresses. Never mind the MORTIFICATION at anyone who tries the shallow dippy stuff Meghan trots out. She will last ten minutes. It'll be hilarious, but everyone should stop panicking.

Perhaps they should try Cheshire instead.

Footballer’s wives territory might be more fitting. I believe they love a bit of instagram.

We could have Megatha Christie. Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the gram…

It's a civil case, of course they should settle if it can be agreed. They shouldn't get into the sort of vanity case Harry has just lost against ANL.

I agree - the Trustees have to make ethical and financial calls that are obligations to the charity so looks like enough $$$$ will settle the case before trial.

I wonder if Elton John is the anonymous donor paying Sentebale’s legal fees?

Wait, Diana was 19 years old and Charles was 31 when they stared dating, they got engaged 6 months later and married after 12 months of dating and being engaged. She left school at 16 after failing her o-levels she left Swiss finishing school after only one term. She was however reportedly very creative and a highly sensitive and vulnerable young person. Her upbringing while of course very privileged sounds appalling. She was super extremely shy too. Throwing this young person into the royal family with a husband who did not know what to do with her and couldn't relate was just awful.

I'm sorry but while her behaviour in later years was complex and abusive to some extent, she herself was experiencing a horrendous pressure. I believe she was broken.

And broken people can either work on understanding themselves and not spreading the hurt or they can go the other way.

See her second son as an example.

Plenty of us have been through trauma which makes either Diana or Harry’s life look like an episode of the Waltons but we don’t hurt everybody around us.

See her first son as an example.

I think people are judging age nineteen by today’s standards, back in the early eighties it was incredibly common to be married or engaged at that age and to be in the workforce from sixteen it’s nothing like today when becoming an adult seems to be getting later and later. By nineteen Diana had been to finishing school in Switzerland, she then went to cookery school and then had various jobs, a cleaner, nanny and kindergarten assistant, she also owned her own apartment and lived as a single woman flat sharing, she lived as an independent adult and certainly didn’t go straight from Althorp to the Palace, she lived as an independent adult woman prior to marriage.

I was born the same year as Diana so was 19 when she was 19.
I also have a daughter who was 19 in 2023

Yes many of my peers left school at 16 and went into work pretty quickly. Far fewer went to university and on average they may have got married earlier than my dd's peer group. But my dd's generation of 19 year olds were far more worldly wise and savvy than my generation of 19 year olds!

Going to finishing school in Switzerland and living in a flat bought by her father with other Sloane Ranger types was hardly being independent. Her salary from the nursery didn't pay for her life as a single woman. Her life experience was incredibly narrow. Even second hand experience was limited back then. TV was still highly 'sanitised' and documentaries about daily life, relationships, etc. were much, much rarer than now. The only Soap was Coronation Street which was lighthearted. Eastenders didn't start until 1985.

Diana's first hand experience of relationships was her parent's marriage which was appalling!
The only source available to her as teen was probably the Mills and Boone drivel written by her step grandmother 🙄

My friends and I all felt horrified that she was going to be marrying Charles. Not only a man so much older than her but such an apparently dull man. It was so clearly an arranged marriage that we felt incredibly sorry for her.

My peers who got married young, married the people they'd been going out with since school. Boyfriends/girlfriends they'd known for years and were similar ages.

I'm not saying that Diana didn't have agency later on, but the notion that she wasn't young and naive at the time of her engagement/marriage doesn't tally with my experience of that time.

Thinking about that notorious interview with Martin Bashir, there are lots of parallels with the HAM’s OW one.

The highly manipulative demeanour of Diana (eye makeup which accentuated those enormous blue eyes, moist with tears), the collaboration in order to damage Charles, the dishonesty about her part in the situation etc.

Yes, I know the appalling background to the interview- there’s no excuse for that - but looking back it does seem like a prototype for the HAM’s devastating and damaging one.

You know I don't know why I've been so slow on the uptake with this and Meghan's tearful eyes in South Africa. Doh! 🙄

Also she was almost instantly pregnant.
Same as my mother I suppose it my mother wasn’t married into the Royal family and everything else that came with it.
I do recall commentators were shocked and some expressed the view that they had expected the couple to wait a year or two to let her settle to the job.

AtIusvue · 25/08/2026 18:36

Hes going to be here for the next decade apparently 😭

DM:

I’m told that the only real motivation for the relocation is Prince Harry’s fervent desire to give their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, a gold-star education, and for him that means it simply has to be in a UK school.
He and Meghan, say friends, have been kicking this idea around ‘for years’ but became very serious about it last year, to the point of obtaining prospectuses and speaking to headteachers.

Meghan has been aware of Harry’s views and discussing with him how they will bring the children up for years. It is not sudden,’ says a friend.
The friend adds that the King was told ‘long before the weekend’ that sending the children to school in the UK was what they hoped to do, and the King also understood that Harry felt Archie was far too young to start boarding, so it would mean a family return to the UK.
His school will indeed be in, or close to, the Cotswolds, and the Sussexes are looking for a country house nearby with a budget of around £8million.
The intention, according to Harry, is to be here for at least the next decade.
A friend says: ‘The way he sees it is that he will be here for the next 12 to 15 years, minimum. He sees himself as a full-time father and he will be here for them spending every Saturday watching Archie play rugby. That is the agenda.
‘He and Meghan are the best and most committed parents. They are the people who tell their kids: “no tablets [screens] at the dining table”.
‘There is no hankering after a royal status or royal engagements, it is not about that. He specifically doesn’t want to do that. This is about Harry wanting what is best for them and he wants them to be raised British, in Britain, and go to a public school. That is what the move is about.’

A lawyer on one of the YouTube talk shows ventured his belief that it is being funded by a newspaper.
(ANL anyone??). Anyway if true I think we can safely order in a bulk purchase of popcorn 🍿 🍿🍿

However as @Izzzzxxx says, the decision isn’t really Dr Sophie’s - the charity will have to make a decision for the good of the charity and I think that decision will be to stay out of court if they can.

Do hope they don’t agree to an NDA but I suppose it still wouldn’t be in the best interests of the charity to run to the press with the receipts. We are going to be denied the fun and a bellyful of popcorn I fear.

Sounds a lot like Harry having custody…….

’When he appeared on former rugby player and Traitors star Joe Marler’s podcast last month, Harry did indeed describe himself – partly joking – as a ‘full-time Dad’.
The plan now is that he will indeed be the key at-home parent, while Meghan travels back and forth to their home in Montecito, California’

’So Meghan will be left to try and earn money and keep their media dreams alive in America (they still have a ‘first look’ deal for their projects with Netflix) while Harry returns to Britain, living probably not far from Highgrove where he was raised, and continues with the British based patronages and charity work which he has undertaken throughout the Megxit period.’

’ Meghan will ‘come and go’ and is apparently already plotting out which weeks she will need to be here, and when she will be in California.’

She was definitely in either The Telegraph or The Times and I have the year and maiden name.

I hope Julia Carling reviews it for the Times.

That’s there is marriage trouble:

DM:

‘The reality seems to be that the move is long term, but that it will involve school terms in the UK and holidays in the US for Harry and the children, and more time than that in the US for Meghan.
Naturally, the prospect of geographical separation between the couple, who were married in 2018, is not a narrative which Team Sussex want to promote. Indeed, the idea of it has set a hare racing about the state of their marriage.
Celebrity journalist and gossip columnist Rob Shuter reported on Friday that their marriage is in serious trouble – and moving back to the U.K. is their ‘last attempt to save it’.
Shuter wrote: ‘I’m told Meghan did not want to return and remains deeply uncomfortable with the idea. Harry, however, is miserable in California and increasingly unhappy with the life they have built in Montecito. That unhappiness is now putting enormous strain on their marriage.
‘They are not in a good place. Harry is deeply unhappy, and Meghan knows she cannot keep asking him to live a life that is making him miserable.’
My source agrees. ‘Meghan is not doing this because she wants to,’ they say. ‘She is doing it because she believes she has to. She does not want to lose Harry, and she knows something has to change.’

Does this person have sources or is she just speculating like the rest of us?

Are they really going to maintain that big mansion just for occasional visits by Meghan? It must cost a fortune just to keep it ticking over.

but makes more sense than anything else

I cannot image why Meg would need to be in California for weeks at a time for as ever.

She posts once a week, from catalogue of old photos….its literally the business definition of phoning it it. I’ve been saying for months!

but apparently she really can’t phone it in and needs to be there….to what? Pack boxes? Arrange croissants?

Why can’t the naff photo shoots be done in a studio here?

They are seriously putting out to the world that she will spend weeks at a time away from the children??? While Harry will play stay at home dad!
