Not even half the Duchy on the left-hand side?

😂👏👏

Sorry I’ve been so busy these past few days I can’t keep up!

The Times is reporting that Harry has ‘been removed’ from the board of African Parks. Is this old news or new news?

Why would he want to do that? There's no reason for it (1917 was a completely different, world-turned-upside-down situation). In any case, Harry and Meghan don't use the HRH title. And why would William want to pass a rash Letters Patent just to poke Harry in the eye that could end up depriving his own younger children or grandchildren of the title HRH?

I think It would be very straightforward to devise a Letters Patent stating that from x date, except for the heir apparent, only members of the Royal Family who were supporting the monarch in his service of the country 'should hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of "Royal Highness"'.

It would not penalise the older generation of the RF who have been working royals for years. It would remove the issues with both Yorks and Sussexes.

The younger Waleses could regain HRH on adulthood when they commit to being working royals and supporting George, which they most likely will. It would also leave the option open for Louise or James.

It would clarify for everyone who was a working royal, so there was no uncertainty when media companies are reporting trips abroad. There isn't any real uncertainty in diplomatic circles, but sometimes it's better to be obvious about things.

Andrew has been accused of violent sexual crimes, is under police investigation in the UK and perhaps the US, and has been arressted on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Harry has simply been a complete idiot. I'm not sure parliament would agree to stripping Harry of his titles just for being a pain in the bum. While Andrew may set some kind of precedent, that only happened at the end of last year when his legal problems started mounting. And many would say it's unfair to equate Harry's misdemeanours with those of Andrew.

As far as I'm aware, Harry and Meghan do not style themselves HRH. I don't think William has any interest in removing their Sussex title. When he becomes King, he will have far more important things to consider.

Meghan admitted that she uses HRH “ privately”. This was picked up when a photo was posted of a gift she had sent someone from HRH the Duchess of Sussex.

diddl · 24/08/2026 14:18

If their usp is their connection to the RF & that is ebbing away, perhaps they think they must now get the kids connected?

Because it brings it into the 21st century, quite frankly. @bluegreygreen has put it much better than me. I think a some of the Scandinavian royals have done this to streamline their monarchies.

I think KC should have done something similar, when he ascended. I’m a constitutional monarchist (got splinters, according to my mum), and I see no issue, with it.

If the monarchy want to survive into the 22nd century (and I have my doubts), then they need to adapt, sharpish.

IMO that means titles for monarch, spouse, heir, spouse, their heir and spouse and any working royals.

Working royals get to keep if they have retired eg like Duke of Kent and not kicked out like AMW. So no titles for Charlotte, Louis, Sussexes, Yorks etc unless they are working royals they can be styled like James and Louise.

That made me snort!

Imagine using HRH privately!

That implies it's amongst her friends. Oh God, it's worse than I thought. And this is the same woman who was incredulous that the RF curtseyed and observed preference in private.

Mind you, she did embarrass that so-called friend on one of her TV programmes by reminding her that 'I'm Sussex now!' when the friend referred to her as Meghan Markle.

No, but it's beyond crass to then use it in a private context. Plus IIRC it was actually on a printed card, so she'd deliberately ordered those. Why??

BigWillyLittleTodger · 24/08/2026 14:28

I would like to see LP issued when William is King that only children of the Heir are styled HRH, so Louis and Charlotte’s children have no titles going forward, imagine if nothing changes and all the Wales children had 4 children each, that’s a potential 12 Prince and Princesses! (Yes I know Charlotte’s children wouldn’t automatically have the right to titles, but if things stay the same I doubt William wouldn’t want equality for his daughter’s children) seeing as a slimmed down “European” style monarchy is so often touted as the way forward LP has to change.

So on the 19th August, African Parks released at statement that they’ve got rid of Harry. Harry would have known the date the that this would be announced. Then, 21st August we found out how costs were going to be awarded for the ANL case. Again, he was aware obviously of this date.

It just so happens….that on the same week of possibly the worst PR of the last few years for Harry…….they release info that has shocked many and filled the papers for days and days….to the point that the African Parks story has taken days to be picked up on and had been sort of lost.

How long until we find out they aren’t moving after all? And this is just some childish PR strategy

BasiliskStare · 24/08/2026 14:35

I think they're moving all right. But yes what a week to bury bad news to paraphrase that idiot whose name I have forgotten.

The funniest part of that is, she sent it to a close friend 😂. a bit like her being announced by her title to an empty room in her friends living room.

She does love those British Royal family titles she got by marrying in, loves them so much she uses them with her friends lol. Such a snob, purposely trying to upstage her friends, how does anyone believe the California girl crap.

KatherineParr · 24/08/2026 15:01

I don't think the current titles situation is tenable now that we don't prioritise men in the succession. As it stands, we have Charlotte being ahead of Louis in the line of succession, but her children won't be entitled to be HRH and Louis' will, even though they are less likely to succeed. Doesn't really work. William has a few options:

  1. Give titles to all grandchildren of the monarch: Could happen but I think it's unlikely given everyone wants to see fewer royals.
  2. Going forward, remove titles from grandchildren of the monarch who aren't the children of the heir apparent, so Louis' children aren't HRH: This could happen but I somehow don't think William will want his grandchildren to have lesser status than Beatrice/Eugenie/Archie/Lilibet. Maybe I'm wrong and he doesn't care, but that's the impression I get.
  3. Retrospectively remove titles from grandchildren of Elizabeth II and Charles III who aren't working royals. This means that Harry/Meghan/Beatrice/Eugenie/Archie/Lilibet all get demoted. No one will really care about Beatrice & Eugenie given how unpopular the Yorks are. Archie & Lilibet are a different case and this will cause a backlash amongst Sussex supporters but William may decide it's better to just ride out the storm on the grounds that Sussex supporters will never back him, regardless of what he does.
  4. Another option I have not yet identified.

I personally think William will go for option 3. Relations between him and the York sisters seem poor & we know that his relationship with Harry and Meghan is even worse. He doesn't know their children at all to feel any reluctance or guilt, the same way that Charles does with Beatrice & Eugenie.

I don't actually think that slimming down solves anything. The most slimmed down RF in Europe is the Norwegians and they've had lots of issues with the Crown Princess' links to Epstein and her son's convictions for rape and drug supply amongst other things. It also doesn't result in massive cost savings IMO. But people are really keen to slim down the RF and so it would be a popular option for William.

I really wish I'd copied my post from the last time I wrote this out.

TheAutumnCrow · 24/08/2026 15:01

Harry WAS REMOVED.

However he spins it, this is a ‘Harry removed in charity scandal’ story. It involves rape, torture, white savourism, crap governance by the directors (including him) and indigenous people of Africa being brutalised.

Counting Canada and Tyler Perry's home, Archie is racking up his fifth home in seven years.

We're relocating with our son age 3, and it's a wrench to leave his little friends and our parent friends. I know we probably live slightly different lives, but I just couldn't contemplate moving that many times.

I think that ship has sailed re the titles, the time to address all titles going forward was when Charles ascended the throne, but even then if he had changed the letters patent for only the heirs children to be titled the HAMs could have used it to scream see! racist! if the hamlets had been denied titles, the only way to KC could have done it without being called racist is removing all Prince and Princess titles form Beatrice and Eugenie as well, but even then they would still claim victimhood being lumped in with the crimes of the Yorks. I do hope though when William becomes King he introduces a new Letters Patent going forward so this situation doesn’t arise again.

I agree with much of what you say.

What KC could do is make the Dukedom a lifetime one like the Duke of Edinburgh. H has other titles e.g. Earl of Dumbarton that Archie can inherit.

We know Lancaster, York, Cambridge, Cornwall and Edinburgh Dukedoms have or will revert to The Crown when the current incumbents die. Being able to appoint them on a lifetime basis going forward keeps them recyclable for those highest in the LoS.

WRT Prince and Princess titles, KC could issue letters patent now that going forward only the children of the reigning monarch and children of the heir receive Prince & Princess titles.

It would not change anything for existing prince & princesses but would mean Charlotte and Louis children would not be prince or princess. It would save an argument when Louis & Charlotte are older.

If applied retrospectively (it wouldn’t be) it would mean Beatrice, Eugene, Louise, James, Archie & Lilibet would never have been entitled to use prince or princess.

In someways Meghan might like H to lose the Dukedom so she can call herself Princess Meghan. She would never use her correct title Princess Henry.

SqueakyDinosaur · 24/08/2026 15:17

Also, a couple of the Victorian and earlier royal dukes' titles are in abeyance - Albany, Connaught, Cumberland, Clarence, Windsor (erm, maybe not....). So plenty to go round!
