Only 167 now which seems very low.

It was over 300 this morning.

MissFenellaPrism · 24/08/2026 12:46

@SweatyWarrenBetty- you're right. I think that the Sussexes continuing to use the titles - nay - insisting on them for themselves and their children, just shows how desperate they are to remain royal.
I think at least part of this return is to ensure that the children are treated as fully royal as possible.

JSMill · 24/08/2026 12:47

I don’t think it’s worth W’s time to remove their titles. We have seen with AMW it’s not that easy or quick. It’s probably best for W to continue to ignore them. They will become increasingly irrelevant and uninteresting.

I agree, plus them clinging to the titles just underlines their hypocrisy.

irrespective of the Andrew’s and the Harry’s, the British monarchy needs an overhaul, it needs to be modernised and officially trimmed down, it’s ridiculous there are people with the official title of Princess, like Eugenie and Beatrice, who are not working for the Monarchy and who have no official public standing.

I don’t think anything major will happen though, the RF are currently very popular, King Charles is well liked and viewed as doing a good job as King, so they won’t want to rock the boat and risk their current popularity with the British public.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 24/08/2026 13:03

I think that ship has sailed re the titles, the time to address all titles going forward was when Charles ascended the throne, but even then if he had changed the letters patent for only the heirs children to be titled the HAMs could have used it to scream see! racist! if the hamlets had been denied titles, the only way to KC could have done it without being called racist is removing all Prince and Princess titles form Beatrice and Eugenie as well, but even then they would still claim victimhood being lumped in with the crimes of the Yorks. I do hope though when William becomes King he introduces a new Letters Patent going forward so this situation doesn’t arise again.

This. KC didn't want to fuel more victimhood.

He can't stay in the US as he risks arrest due to his visa issue (IMO)

Does that mean he can’t visit or return there either?

I think that’s the crux of it. I would imagine that M has probably had to be dragged here kicking and screaming, but H is scared that the royal glitter will wear off and he wants his kids to be as royal as their cousins. M has probably had to be prevailed upon.

They're just a far right 'think tank' though. They have no real influence on policy. Just an ideological agenda.

I also see no evidence that Harry has visa issues. If nothing else, I just don't see a situation where the son of the King of the United Kingdom would be deported.

They are pushing hard, and meeting real resistance, so I don't think.this is quite a nothingburger.

USA citizens still don't know what type of visa H was on, whether it permits him to work, etc.

As a UK citizen I'm going to be miffed if he's on any sort of dimplomatic visa, since he has been working against my HoS for six years. And US citizens are going to be asking about why he is drawing salaries from US organisations if he doesn't have green card status

And the judge in the case has indicated that thete are admissions in the visa application that, if they became public knowledge, could cause embarrassment.

People are just speculating why Harry wants to return to the UK after his detailed and vituperative criticisms of his family, the monarchy, his security provision, the press, the judiciary and the UK generally.
It's quite the conundrum.

I think he wants to raise his kids in the UK so they can be properly British and hence (he hopes) lay claim to their royal heritage.

I suspect he never really planned to be away from the UK for so long or to reside permanently in the US, but things just unfolded that way. His tantrums were because he wasn't getting his own way.

Meghan would probably prefer to remain in her own country, but they've been a flop in the US so she hasn't got much leverage in trying to keep him there. Who knows what personal agreements they may have made back in the day. Maybe "let's go to the US for a few years and return to the UK when the kids start school". With the Invictus Games in Birmingham next year, he probably convinced her that he has to be in the UK more of the time to help arrange them.

It's going to be a strange acclimatisation for the kids, suddenly starting school in a country they barely know, away from the only home they've known.

Recklessismymiddlename · 24/08/2026 13:32

I have long said
titles for working royals
and heir apparent (William) and heir presumptive (George) only not for Charlotte and not for Louis, either so the Yorks, and Sussexes can’t claim discrimination either imo.

There is absolutely no indication that they have been given the armed, state-supplied security that Harry has been demanding. In fact, all evidence is that they haven't (e.g. prime minister specifically saying their security is a "private" affair as opposed to the standard "we do not comment on security issues").

Going back to what Andy Burnham said that their security is a “private matter” the way I interpreted that was not that he meant that security would be privately paid for but that it wasn’t the public’s business to know anything about their security.

I thought the same.

Baital · 24/08/2026 13:34

AMW has had his HRH and Prince titles removed. They are bestowed/ taken away by the monarch by Letters Patent.

He has agreed not to use his Duke of York title, but only Parliament can remove it (because back in the day Parliament wanted to curtail the King's power). That hasn't been done, and seems to.ke would be a waste of Parliamentary time. He has agreed not to use it, and he doesn't have a son to inherit, so it ends there.

But a) removing H's title would be a lot more controversial and b) there's nothing to stop him (or M) continuing to use it. Just as there's nothing to stop them returning to the UK, issuing press statements etc

It seems a lot of hassle without much obvious benefit.

Baital · 24/08/2026 13:35

BunnyBunbunbun · 24/08/2026 13:32

What sort of Letters Patent do you want William to issue as King?

I assume something along the lines of those issued by George V in 1917 redefining who is HRH.

BunnyBunbunbun · 24/08/2026 13:41

SweatyWarrenBetty · 24/08/2026 12:41

@BunnyBunbunbun If Charles did anything so crazy (I'm not even sure he's able to) just to "sort them out", then that would create even more sympathy for Harry and Meghan and make them even more of a problem.
King Charles' brother, Andrew Windsor's titles were removed several months ago, hence him now being called Andrew Windsor. So it is absolutely possible that Charles could, via Parliament, have not only HaM's Sussex titles removed but, in theory, Harry could be having Harry Mountbatten Windsor typed on his passport instead of Prince Harry. The removal of Prince would be very extreme though. An act currently only reserved for Prince's under investigation for the selling of state secrets, I believe.
I would not be one tiny bit surprised if William de-Sussexed them as soon as he was able. And I wouldn't be surprised if HaM completely ignored him and carried on styling themselves as HRH DoS. What's to stop them? They wouldn't be locked in the Tower.

Andrew has been accused of violent sexual crimes, is under police investigation in the UK and perhaps the US, and has been arressted on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Harry has simply been a complete idiot. I'm not sure parliament would agree to stripping Harry of his titles just for being a pain in the bum. While Andrew may set some kind of precedent, that only happened at the end of last year when his legal problems started mounting. And many would say it's unfair to equate Harry's misdemeanours with those of Andrew.

As far as I'm aware, Harry and Meghan do not style themselves HRH. I don't think William has any interest in removing their Sussex title. When he becomes King, he will have far more important things to consider.

BunnyBunbunbun · 24/08/2026 13:43

Baital · 24/08/2026 13:35

I assume something along the lines of those issued by George V in 1917 redefining who is HRH.

Why would he want to do that? There's no reason for it (1917 was a completely different, world-turned-upside-down situation). In any case, Harry and Meghan don't use the HRH title. And why would William want to pass a rash Letters Patent just to poke Harry in the eye that could end up depriving his own younger children or grandchildren of the title HRH?

IcedPurple · 24/08/2026 13:47

I agree @BunnyBunbunbun Also, the royals don't want to set the precedent of stripping titles due to someone's behaviour, except in extreme cases like Andrew. After all, none of the royals really 'deserve' their titles, do they? They just got them as an accident of birth. Question that and you question the whole principle of monarchy.

I would be in favour of a Letters Patent limiting royal titles only to the children of the heir, but not retrospectively. This would mean that the York sisters and Sussex kids keep their titles, but Louis' and Charlotte's possible children would not have titles. Under current convention, Charlotte can't pass on royal titles anyway. I also think there is much more concern over the use of HRH, which is the 'trademark' of royalty. If the Sussexes started using that in their various ventures, there might be a backlash. But I don't think they care too much about the peerage and princely titles.

Several politicians (including Kemi Badenoch) are arguing that Harry should have beefed up security (not necessarily the same as 24/7 armed, state-provided security). Labour peer Lord Foulkes is actually arguing against increasing their security and is using the prime minister's words re security being a "private matter".

Blunkett says Sussexes should get a 'limited' level of royal security

The former home secretary said it could be upgraded or downgraded over time depending on the perceived level of threat.
