What exactly is Charles meant to have sorted out?

Removing their titles and subbing them.

Will this suddenly stop taking signatures like the Ingriftus petition??

Regarding the security issue, in my opinion Harry is able and willing to pay for his own security in the UK. His issue, however, is that in the UK, and unlike in the US and many other countries, only state-provided security is able to carry firearms and he believes that his security needs are so great that he and his family require armed security protection. As armed private security isn't permitted in the UK, he thinks his only option is for the state to provide it.

I doubt he really requires armed security, but if he feels so strongly about the issue then he should stay in the US. Of course, if he is doing an engagement in the UK where he is deemed high risk, then he can request armed, state-provided security and his application will be assessed on its merits, but he won't get 24/7 armed security for him, Meg and the kids.

He can't stay in the US as he risks arrest due to his visa issue (IMO)

I tried to sign it but didn't get any confirmation email to my mailbox so I think it's not working

BigWillyLittleTodger · 24/08/2026 11:49

There is absolutely no indication that they have been given the armed, state-supplied security that Harry has been demanding. In fact, all evidence is that they haven't (e.g. prime minister specifically saying their security is a "private" affair as opposed to the standard "we do not comment on security issues").

Going back to what Andy Burnham said that their security is a “private matter” the way I interpreted that was not that he meant that security would be privately paid for but that it wasn’t the public’s business to know anything about their security.

Funnily enough... I came across it this morning, linked to from another site, and it had over 300 signatures at that point. Now it has gone down to 157 ( at time of writing).

If they get the full bells and whistles security, will that also apply to her international business travel ???

I guess it would depend on RAVEC and threat assessments but spouse of, what is he now? number 5 in LoS(?) routinely getting tax payer funded protection whilst travelling alone for their own business reasons?

I can't think there is a precedent for that (well one that we know about).and I really don't think it would wash with the public...

Removing their titles and subbing them.

Why would he do something so vindictive like that, for which there is absolutely no justifiable reason? What do you even mean by subbing them?

If Charles did anything so crazy (I'm not even sure he's able to) just to "sort them out", then that would create even more sympathy for Harry and Meghan and make them even more of a problem. A real problem this time, not just a couple of annoying idiots.

What would removing their titles and subbing them even achieve? They would still be able to live in the UK, he could still send his kids to school in the UK, Harry could still claim to have a high security risk and that he therefore needs armed security in the UK, they would still be able to have their charities and projects, they would still be famous throughout the world, except now with the added twist that they truly have been vindictively treated by Charles. There would be real opposition to the British royal family among many sectors of the international general public because Charles will have acted so nastily. And none of this would stop Harry and Meghan from doing the things they do.

I doubt anyone in either the royal family or the government even supports this extreme idea.

Starryfifty · 24/08/2026 12:05

If KC has any influence over RAVEC security, I imagine he will make sure HAM do not get it. It doesn't suit KC and RF to have HAM in the UK. Constant drama, silly headlines, distraction etc. He also doesn't want to rock the boat with PW either.

I doubt Harry has any visa issue at all in the US. Why do people think he has? He has an American spouse, at least one of his children is an American citizen, he can certainly support himself financially, he can claim that he does "work" that cannot be done by any other American citizen or resident, he could probably claim that he has some kind of extraordinary ability or that he has invested at least $1 million in the US, his past drug use is trivial and loads of UK rock stars who live or have lived in the US have done far more drugs than him without this ever creating visa issues for them.

I don't think so. The standard line for that is "we never make any comment on security issues". In fact, it's not really the prime minister's position even to comment on such things, so I suspect that Andy Burnham wanted to get ahead of things. I think the word "private" was deliberately chosen, especially when coupled with platitudes such as "we wish them all the best" (i.e. bye and stop bothering us).

This is also coupled with various other things that indicate he has not received armed, state-backed security (they didn't receive it in July so why on earth should they get it just a few weeks later, he's apparently still harassing the home secretary to reassess his security risk, his apparent angry email to the media not to reveal anything about his kids' schools).

People are just speculating why Harry wants to return to the UK after his detailed and vituperative criticisms of his family, the monarchy, his security provision, the press, the judiciary and the UK generally.
It's quite the conundrum.

MrsLeonFarrell · 24/08/2026 12:20

Nothing has changed about security. RAVEC will request an intelligence assessment and act accordingly. If there is a sufficient threat level to warrant armed protection then he will get it while that threat exists. We won't know what level of security they are given (unless Harry tells us) because no one in authority comments on security matters. Harry and Meghan do not qualify for the UK to provide security outside the UK and they don't qualify for permanent security, unlike the King and Queen and Prince and Princess of Wales.

This has been the case since they left as working royals. The papers like to stir up trouble but do we really want to live in a country where private individuals can hire armed police?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 24/08/2026 12:29

I doubt Harry has any visa issue at all in the US. Why do people think he has?

Because his visa was being investigated by the Heritage Foundation and has been headline news, this has been discussed on these threads previously so of course some posters may be of the opinion that this sudden return home is due to his visa.

The Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based conservative think tank, sued the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under the Freedom of Information Act to make Prince Harry's immigration records public. They argue that his admissions of past drug use in his memoir Spare should have disqualified him from entry, raising questions of whether he received preferential treatment

On top of @MissFenellaPrism 's factual input... If RAVEC deemed that HaM did warrant full security, then Charles would be a bit of a git to revoke it 😂

Totally agree.

But that's not how H sees it!

He's Harry! Prince Harry, don'tcha know? And there's gorgeous Meghan too.

I really think he imagines his old image and perceived charisma is fair exchange for all kinds of expensive privileges.

Is there a petition stating we don’t want to pay for their security?
I would start one if I was techy enough.
It would be hugely popular!
Anybody fancy doing it?

They're just a far right 'think tank' though. They have no real influence on policy. Just an ideological agenda.

I also see no evidence that Harry has visa issues. If nothing else, I just don't see a situation where the son of the King of the United Kingdom would be deported.

I’m not saying he has visa issues, I’m explaining as to why some may draw that conclusion.

Indeed! The late Queen had no influence, the current king certainly doesn't.

PinkHairbrushClub · 24/08/2026 12:40

I think the “taxpayers paying for security” is a lonely headline to rile up a lot of anger and emotion. Realistically they’ll be treated like everyone else. Their position will be assessed and if the threat level warrants it they’ll have state funded security. As long as they are treated the same as all other public figures I can’t get het up.

It’s a wonderful distraction though. So what else is being hidden is my immediate pondering…

@BunnyBunbunbun If Charles did anything so crazy (I'm not even sure he's able to) just to "sort them out", then that would create even more sympathy for Harry and Meghan and make them even more of a problem.
King Charles' brother, Andrew Windsor's titles were removed several months ago, hence him now being called Andrew Windsor. So it is absolutely possible that Charles could, via Parliament, have not only HaM's Sussex titles removed but, in theory, Harry could be having Harry Mountbatten Windsor typed on his passport instead of Prince Harry. The removal of Prince would be very extreme though. An act currently only reserved for Prince's under investigation for the selling of state secrets, I believe.
I would not be one tiny bit surprised if William de-Sussexed them as soon as he was able. And I wouldn't be surprised if HaM completely ignored him and carried on styling themselves as HRH DoS. What's to stop them? They wouldn't be locked in the Tower.
