Thanks @ShamedBySiri for the African Parks snippet. I wonder if this was initiated by them or Harry. If H , then , given AP's reputation , you would think he'd put out a statement saying he's left because of diverging opinions or some such. Or H has been doing next to nothing and they wanted someone more involved. He doesn't appear to have done much re some of the dreadful allegations which have been publicised. In any case it would appear he now has no ties to African charities and he has said repeatedly he loves Africa.

I haven’t read this article in yesterday’s DM but I did enjoy the headline.

The suddenness makes me think they got wind of potentially non residents being removed from the line of sucession or titles being removed. It’s the only reason I can think of that Meghan would willing move to the U.K. with the kids

I think you are on to something there . Possibly also concerned about their titles .

BasiliskStare · 24/08/2026 08:18

I agree re some of the press reporting @MrsLeonFarrell . Apparently there is an annual event for the Diana award in September (18?) W&H take it in turns to go. W is not scheduled to be there this year. It will be entering to see how that is reported - ie is something which was going to happen anyway whether H moved back or not going to be reported as division / snubbing etc.

They'd have to get a visa first. They can't just rock up in Australia the way they can in Britain.

Oh but they’re royal! I mean, who wouldn’t want Prince Harry and Meghan?

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 24/08/2026 08:22

As for charities, anyone can be chosen to be a patron of a charity - it's got nothing to do with being a working royal. They can be patrons of whichever charities are stupid enough to choose to have them, but those won't be royal patronages.

The problem being that charities are pretty risk averse about who they associate with. My employer (one of Camila's patronages) makes sure that our public representatives are in line with our values.

Harry is losing charity relationships and I can't see that they're being replaced. Only smaller charities would take a punt on associating with him, I think, but they couldn't afford to pay much in the way of expenses. And even then, where I've worked for smaller charities with significant patrons, there's still an aversion to negative press. The odd public comment or grumble is fine, no one is perfect.

But with Harry it's constant. And he's got stiff competition from all the non-controversial options with better public profiles.

That was the priority at the Sandringham Agreement. Meghan's instructions were: Keep the titles.

Definitely going to be reported as evidence of division, it's the only way to make a story and get comments. Whilst I can believe William has no desire to reconcile at this point, I don't believe that he feels much except a weary resignation at the latest turn of the Sussex wheel. He knows who he is and what his role is, and so does Charles.

Suggesting that anyone is threatened by the Sussexes is very much inflating their importance. It also suggests that the working royals are as desparate for clicks and income as the Sussexes, which is blatantly not the case. This isn't a level playing field and it's even more uneven now they are all in the same country.

I haven't read it either but those four are certainly formidable women in different ways.

Using the words "working" and "royal" in the same same sentence has always amused me.
It's hardly "work" to get transported to a place, cut a ribbon, shake a few hands and then transported back to their huge staffed mansions/palaces in time for tea 🙄

MaturingCheeseball · 24/08/2026 08:41

Embarrassed to be handed my arse on a (monogrammed) plate for giving credibility to Richard Eden and Sarah Vine ! But they did sound quite convincing, as opposed to the 20 billion other commentators out there.

I still think this is Harry making a land grab; he was in danger of being forgotten and mouldering away in Montecito. Now He’s Back to remind everyone that he is Prince Harry, Son of Diana and Equal to William. Meghan’s usp (well, only p) is the royal thing so she is on board for another crack at fame and fortune.

Her DCs becoming habitually resident in the UK sets her up to sell herself as even more of a victim of UK (or International) law and the BRF if they divorce at some point in the future. Her superpower is motherhood but she can’t be a FT mom because her kids have to be in the UK and she is victimised there so cannot for her mental health live there. Many women with unreasonable exes and in laws would relate to elements of that given how many marriages end in divorce.

In actuality she would be replicating her own family model as it appears Doria was absent for large parts of her childhood. Whether her kids the treat M as M has treated her own father in the future remains to be seen.

Just did a quick google search on what constitutes ‘habitual residence’ for the DCs - it’s not time bound but about intent - so if set out as a temporary situation (extended stay) then they don’t fall into that criteria - so MM would be safe in the knowledge that she can whip her DCs back to Cali at any point (and leave PH behind enmeshed and comfortable with his culture and community) newly burnished in royal glitter for her to merch in Cali.

Is it normal for charities to pay expenses for eg minor celebrities? I know there have been complaints in the past of certain people charging to appear on things like BBC CIN or whatever. And of course there is much discussion re: Invictus paying large sums for Harry and Meghan to attend. But surely for the actual Royals the whole point of the civil list is to fund their work, so there is no bill at the end of the day for their attendances and contributions? "A" list celebrities with deep pockets presumably offer their services for free?
Surely no charity big or small will be stupid enough to take on H&M if they come along with a list of demands and fees?

Boudy · 24/08/2026 09:05

Hello all. I have been lurking. This thread is my 'guilty pleasure'. I have just nipped on to say that ITV Breakfast have reported the tax payer is going to be paying for any protection.

I feel really angry about this. His dad and brother have millions, they could stump up. It just highlights the complete and utter selfishness of HAM.Why should we pay for their whims?

Really ?

BasiliskStare · 24/08/2026 09:16

So , not such a mystery after all. That's 5m reasons a year H&M have to relocate here right there.

I realise Catherine isn't a petty, vengeful person so it will never happen, but I'd love to see her flex her position by flaunting jewellery that Diana wore, which Meghan will never have access to. It would send a certain message...

I think it was discussed on @DaisyDooley royal jewellery thread, I may be wrong, but it is believed that certain iconic pieces that Diana wore were wedding gifts and as such have been retained by the crown and presumably are hidden away in the Buckingham Palace vault. I think we can be sure if Meghan had acquired any of those big pieces we would have seen the evidence.

I can quite understand why Catherine chooses not to wear these items, no doubt anyway it's not her style, but also she will be aware of endless tedious articles about "sweet nods to Diana" and she will also be respectful of how William might feel about it.

But with Earl Spencer's book, rumours of a H&M 30th anniversary Netflix special, and the final insult, the two of them rocking up back on the doorstep, now would be a great time to pull rank and wear those pieces.

"One of the most famous examples of Diana’s “lost” jewels is the extravagant Crescent set, a bold, modern suite of diamonds and sapphires given to her by the Sultan of Oman." This piece and the huge sapphire choker need the dust brushing off. Now is the time.
