GBNews are reporting that Harry and Megan are moving back to the UK at the end of August.

I won't believe it until I hear it on the BBC.

Ha ha! I think hell would freeze over before any UK Parliament would allow that! 😂

And the monarchy itself.... George would be King and would have to allow it as well if William didn't do it.

ShedShedShed · 20/08/2026 17:18

😂😂😂 that's not how it works.

George would be King if William abdicates.

Oh yeah, mea culpa you're right, but George might say feck it, I'm off to live with the turtles in the Galapagos, then who would it be? Or put it another way, who would have to step away for Harry and Meghan to ascend the throne.

Maybe that's the plot they are hatching by coming back. LOL.

It would be any kids George had by then, if they all abidocates.... then it's Charlotte and her children...and if they all abdicate, it would be Louis and then his kids..

.and THEN of they all abdicate, it would be Harry.

ShedShedShed · 20/08/2026 17:27

However if George isn't of age when William abdicates, Harry would be regent, if he couldn't/wouldn't it's Andrew, if he couldn't/wouldn't, it's Beatrice, until George turned 18. Then George would be King... Unless he abdicates, then it would be back to a regent until his kids are if age, if no kids regent until Charlotte or any is of age

Hence why William won't willingly be going anywhere for the next five years 😅.

No, Parliament would pass a Regency Act naming whoever seemed to be the most appropriate person or persons at the time. Could be a Council with Catherine, Anne and Edward.

But I can't imagine William ever putting George or any of his children in that position.

No, he definitely wouldn't.

LivelyGreyShark · 20/08/2026 17:38

It wouldn't ever be Catherine as regent as she is not a counsellor of state nor in the LOS, personally I don't think Anne would go for either it, she's 76.

And a poster who keeps on telling us just how much they don't care every 30 minutes or so 😂😂

😂😂

panomara · 20/08/2026 17:51

I am fully bamboozled by the various permutations involving a successor if the future monarch decides to leg it!

I say put all their mugshots on a billboard and vote in order of your choice. Free darts available for target practise. Can you imagine the hustings and the infighting, and handbags at dawn. We need a bit of theatre and rivalry, come on then....

HelenaWilson · 20/08/2026 17:53

If Parliament passed legislation to say that Catherine should be Regent, she would be.
Catherine of Aragon acted as Regent for Henry VIII when Henry was absent campaigning in France.
I think a Council of Regency or a Protectorate with Catherine as a member would be more likely. Membership would have to be carefully limited to exclude Uncle Charles Spencer too.
I'm sure there are contingency plans which would be put into action should it be necessary.

Charles needs to remove H from the line of succession as H has opted out of RF but sadly I think he’s not brave enough so he’ll leave it to William - which is very unfair.
Come on Charles, be brave!

I feel it’s temporary & they’ll effectively split time between UK & Portugal mainly for now perhaps. Get boarding established etc.

I hope so. I hope they feel peace.

Only parliament ( of all countries that have the same head of state) can remove someone from the LOS .

Come on, Charles could and should push for this - otherwise there will continue to be speculation of H’s role/future roles of his kids. Could be a bit of a nightmare for William now and in the future.

Why would he, and I don't know if he actually can anyway? Don't forget that Andrew MW is still 8th in line even though he has been "dealt with". Don't make me laugh with that family. Smoke and mirrors methinks.

It's Parliament that needs to up its game WRT shenanigans in the RF. All of it, money, titles, largesse, taxes, wills, finances, everything. It's not just about Harry and Meghan either, they are probably saintly compared to others if the veil was lifted.

Which, in itself is a cruel disease nobody wants.

She has privilege that other working mothers do not have and whom are at the mercy of paltry state benefits who don't all receive occupational sick pay.

Further, most people are at the mercy of the NHS and don't have the luxury of attending the London Clinic for initial treatment.

In fact, a lot of working mothers trudge through work, having to return sooner than they felt able.

Kate's cancer is no more or no less significant than anybody else's.

I don't disagree with you on any of that but I was replying to a comment that accused the woman of being "workshy" which in the circumstances seemed pretty harsh.

Personally I'm delighted they are moving back.
Hopefully they'll show up, do good works and keep their business to theirselves.

I wouldn't want the job of a royal for all the hats and jewellery but it's Harry's birth right and Meghan could do so much good if she chose to.
I wish them well.

It didn’t happen before, I doubt it will happen now.

Harry doesn’t have a birthright to a royal job

Catherine faced real vitriol in the press too. It’s taken her a very long time to get them on side.

The criticism of Meghan was not primarily a race thing although I don’t deny there might have been the odd story or comment here and there with a racist angle. But overall, it was nothing of the sort.

Going further back Diana had a tough time with the press, but nothing compared to Ferguson who was ridiculed and lambasted.

Meghan wasn’t even viewed as black by many people as she’s so light-skinned.

Women joining the royal family are universally battered by the press. I’m not defending that as right but I’m pointing out that it wasn’t something exclusive to Meghan because of her race.

And of course, let’s not forget that Meghan invited more criticism when she chose to go on Oprah and tell a bunch of lies, before doing a documentary and mocking the Queen. It was open season on her after that, and of course, Harry too.

It’s extremely disingenuous to try and claim she gets a hard time because of her race. If that were true it would be despicable but generally, it’s simply not the case. She’s behaved poorly and reaping the rewards.

All of this. It was a very public betrayal of the royal family and essentially sealed their fate with the public

He can’t, that is not how the monarchy works, and it would have to be agreed by ..Canada…Australia…to name just a few other countries, if it was as easy as people think Andrew would have been removed already.

He also needs to remove AMW

LivelyGreyShark · 20/08/2026 18:29

Under the current Regency act it would be Harry then Andrew - they could try and quickly push through another Regency act naming someone else but that depends on parliament agreeing and there isn't meant to be a gap.

He can't - as @jeffgoldblumsays, it's quite a procedure. KC is a constitutional monarch, he can't act without consent.

If they need to make money I'm not sure how they'll do that by keeping to themselves.
