They’ve always been pretty popular. They’re just really easy to like. The only noticeable dip in popularity seems to have been around January 2023 when Spare came out, and even then William still maintained a rating of 70 (most politicians would kill for a rating like that).
Somehow, despite their enormous privilege, they manage to give off that relatable, easy going vibe. Catherine always comes across as really warm and approachable in public, especially with children, and whilst William is a bit more formal he still manages to be jokey and down to earth for a royal. Together, they seem like a solid couple with a photogenic family. They avoid scandals, rarely complain, and aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves.
I do think there is a sense that William might actually shake things up when he becomes King. The fact that Forest Lodge is being described as their “forever home,” and his handling of tricky family matters (cutting off Harry and reportedly pressuring Charles over Andrew) suggests he’s willing to make big changes. But the proof will be in the pudding, as they say.
But honestly, i think it would take something pretty extreme (like William having a secret love child or Catherine getting caught kicking a puppy) for them to lose public good will and have people turn against them.
(My opinion only, of course!)
