The latest YouGov figures on the Royal Family are in:

  • Andrew is spectacularly unpopular—91% negative (Honestly, I’d love to chat with the 4% who still like him 🤣)
  • William and Catherine remain the crown jewels of public opinion, with favourability ratings of 76% and 73% respectively.
  • Charles’ numbers have edged up slightly, from 59% in August to 62%, despite the ongoing Andrew mess.
  • Camilla is still a divisive figure with 45% favourable, 41% unfavourable.
  • Harry and Meghan continue to struggle, with favourability at just 30% and 21%.
  • Overall support for the monarchy has slipped slightly, from 64% to 62% but is still holding up surprisingly well considering recent events
  • A quarter of the population would rather have an elected head of state.

Wow, that’s really telling, isn’t it?

Indeed it is. Diana, and her brother, were completely manipulated and lied to by Bashir. To the extent of him getting a graphic designer to mock up a fake bank statement, so they would think they had a traitor amongst them.

And the BBC covered it all up for years.

jeffgoldblum · 19/11/2025 18:27

ProfRedLorryYellowLorry · 19/11/2025 18:16

You can't find it. The BBC have taken it out of circulation. You don't seem to know much about all this, do you?

That was my point!! 🙄

BettysRoasties · 19/11/2025 18:49

I think the tide was getting ready to turn on Diana.

I don’t like Camilla or Charles for being cheaters. But I’m also of the opinion his far to old to of become a king but alas that’s how it works.

Harry and Megan just constantly moan and change their story so I I wouldn’t rank them favourably. We want 50/50 don’t get it. Well the we had to flee for our safety the family is racist and wouldn’t help us. We didn’t say that..

Andrew is Andrew less said about him the better. The faster his name is never uttered again the better.

Surprised their is much love for his daughters mind then again I don’t think they have ever done anything offensive apart from those hats all those years ago and that was just a fashion offence.

William and Catherine I think should be current king and queen.

Anne love her princess kick ass. Best mentor for the wales children I think.

I’ve always felt that Catherine and William would have made a great team with Zara, Mike and Anne. It’s a shame they don’t want to be working royals. They have a great relationship with each other. Same with Catherine and Sophie.

Yes they always look at ease and having fun with Zara, Mike and their children.

Though maybe that’s part of it they have just the family relationship no infighting over ranks and titles. Just cousins and their partners and
children.

Though who knows again maybe once William is king they might offer to step up and help. Their children will then also be older.

losingstill · 19/11/2025 19:18

Mike Tindall as a working royal how laughable.

MannersAreAll · 19/11/2025 19:27

BoudiccaRuled · 19/11/2025 18:02

The wording is wrong, surely? It should be "the Duchess of Edinburgh". Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, is how she would be referred to if divorced, I thought? Same as the Princess of Wales became Diana, Princess of Wales after her divorce, and similar for Fergie.
Which is just one of the reasons people laugh at Meghan, because she styles herself incorrectly.

It is wrong. Catherine is HRH The Princess of Wales and Sophie is HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh.

However, it was the palace that started this nonsense when Catherine married William. Firstly they stated she wouldn't be a princess - completely incorrect - and then had her listed as Catherine Elizabeth, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge on George's (and subsequently Charlotte and Louis') birth certificate.

For all the snide comments they got for it the change on Archie's birth certificate from "Rachel Meghan, HRh the Duchess of Sussex" to simply "HRH The Duchess of Sussex" was a proper correction.

Talking of William and Catherine, here’s some snaps of them at the Royal Variety Performance this evening… I love Catherine’s dress!

@CathyorClaire

They’ve always been pretty popular. They’re just really easy to like. The only noticeable dip in popularity seems to have been around January 2023 when Spare came out, and even then William still maintained a rating of 70 (most politicians would kill for a rating like that).

Somehow, despite their enormous privilege, they manage to give off that relatable, easy going vibe. Catherine always comes across as really warm and approachable in public, especially with children, and whilst William is a bit more formal he still manages to be jokey and down to earth for a royal. Together, they seem like a solid couple with a photogenic family. They avoid scandals, rarely complain, and aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves.

I do think there is a sense that William might actually shake things up when he becomes King. The fact that Forest Lodge is being described as their “forever home,” and his handling of tricky family matters (cutting off Harry and reportedly pressuring Charles over Andrew) suggests he’s willing to make big changes. But the proof will be in the pudding, as they say.

But honestly, i think it would take something pretty extreme (like William having a secret love child or Catherine getting caught kicking a puppy) for them to lose public good will and have people turn against them.

(My opinion only, of course!)

Edited

Until relatively recently I think they've benefited from the cover provided by a wider 'workforce' but now that's reduced there are increasing questions being asked over their work ethic and all the indications are they don't intend to answer them so it will be interesting to see if that impacts their ratings.

As for being relatable and easy going I think this is at least the second 'forever home' they've had magnificently refurbished at public expense. It's also involved some pretty poor PR in the shape of existing tenants being evicted and a draconian 2.3 mile exclusion zone around it being implemented closing off previously available public access to community facilities in the process.

I don't actually think it takes anything as dramatic as kicking a puppy to dent popularity (speaking of animals, stopping blasting away at anything that moves would be an easy PR win) but if W can't or won't up his game (he wants to royal with a smal 'r' ) including matters of transparency he's in danger of a quick slide down the scale IMO.

Mike Tindall as a working royal how laughable.

Either grasping Tindall TBF.

Slightly O/T but I wonder why it's always the ghastly Tindalls who are touted as prospective royal ornaments on royal threads and never the (admittedly equally ghastly) Peter Phillips?

Serenster · 19/11/2025 21:01

They paid for the renovations out of their own funds, so no.

Well you say “until recently” and “questions being asked” yet they still remain spectacularly popular so maybe it’s only a certain subsection who feels like this 🤷🏼‍♀️…

Well that is good news.

Maybe they could also consider refunding the £5.5m refurb costs on the now unoccupied 'forever home' at Kensington Palace too.

Maybe.

Although the poll results show the family/institution in general with a substantially lower approval rating so I think W is going to have to be a pretty spectacular monarch to turn the trend around.

All the indications are he won't be.

I prefer to rely on solid statistics rather than assumptions, and the numbers show that William and Catherine are incredibly popular — even more popular than the monarchy itself, so…

Spectre8 · 19/11/2025 21:45

They only polled approx 2292 people that isn't even 1% of the adult population of GB. How can anyone take this seriously, its hardly representative

I mean 69% of 25-49 years old thought favourably of William and 65% of 25-49 year olds thought positively of Catherine.

Try again 🤣 It’s all there in the article 🫣

Consistently, for nearly 14 years now, with multiple polls every year, but sure, keep wishing really hard that William and Catherine are unpopular. Meanwhile, the actual statistics say otherwise 🤣

Well that is good news.

Maybe they could also consider refunding the £5.5m refurb costs on the now unoccupied 'forever home' at Kensington Palace too.

Firstly, how do you know they still don’t use it? Their office team are based there and it is a convenient central London location (we know from their video record that they were there as a family the night before Charles’ coronation).

But also, William and Kate lived at Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace from 2013 to 2022 - nearly 10 years. In that time they had three children, they started school, and William’s grandmother’s health declined. These are all big life events that can lead any family to reassess their future plans, as appears to have happened here. They wanted more privacy for their children. They picked a school that was further away. They wanted to spend more time with elderly relatives. They, like none of us, are not psychic. I don’t see why that means they should they have to pay back the refurbishment costs (that were needed to modernise the Palace in any event).
