I’d expect she’d get a hefty pay cheque. Amazon being the first to get her back on a movie set- interesting not NF

I started the DM piece and I got as far as ‘Experts said’ What experts? Experts of what?

She said in 2022 in Variety, she was done with acting. Harry was indignant at the idea that the RF expected her to carry on acting once married…..and yet here we are.

She really wouldn’t have even considered this a year ago. There has been so much change since she lost the NF deal. The crazy PR drive, turning up at fashion week and now having to do cameos. It’s only been a few months since it ended!!

Yes she said she was done with acting, times must be tough.

Return to acting? That would imply she never left - I think she’s been acting her little socks off for years since she left Hollywood (and by that I mean a supporting role on a very average not very heavily watched show filmed in Toronto).

So it’s possibly one day’s filming for a two minute walk-on cameo, e.g. Meghan is seen and heard ordering a cocktail in a restaurant, or walking down a street and turning her head. A line or two. And the rich/poor characters react to that, in the rehashed Reitman’s style of ‘isn’t that … Meghan Markle?’ The end.

I’ve never understood why she packed it in.

Not that she was very good. She was passable in Suits, but I caught her in some bloody awful Hallmark-style thing and she was abominably bad.

Is it acting if you’re just appearing on screen for two minutes as yourself? We’re not really in RSC territory here.

That’s a good theoretical question. How does one play oneself in a movie when one lives and breathes Main Character Syndrome to start with?

It’s more like meta-acting. Or meta-playacting, given the movie genre.

It’s probably best to start like this with several small cameos then increasing the size of projects slowly - because anything new she does right now is picked over but if she eases into it over time everyone will become more used to it.

If she’d started with a big role or something a bit different like a theatre production there d be a lot of people hate watching hoping for failure which is too much pressure.

I think it hinges on what playing “herself” means. Her character is one part of a famous couple, so it’ll depend what aspect of her fame she leans into.

If she’s playing a Californian bizzfluencer, fair dos, but if she’s there as the wife of a British prince and a Duchess, then I hope BP will take a good look at whether this breaks the Sandringham agreement and take swift action.

The only good thing about the Andrew fiasco is that it has opened a route for the rf to clear out its dross.

No, it’s a cameo seemingly

I don’t think she’s part of one of the couples. The main cast are younger - I think they are the two couples and Meghan is doing a cameo.

Meghan is so famous now she doesn’t need the Sussex title. I hope she goes by Meghan Markle, that’s what I would do now, if I was her. Don’t like the Sussexes behaviour however I really admire Meghan’s tenacity.
