I thought Anne had declined titles or royal roles for them - but please correct me if this is wrong.

If Anne's husband had accepted a peerage, her children would be styled as the son and daughter or a Duke or, more likely, Earl. But they would not have been 'royal' titles. A precedent is with Antony Armstrong Jones, who became 1st Earl of Snowdon on his marriage to Margaret. Their children were styled as Lord and Lady, but they are not 'royal'.

Edwards children are Prince and Princesses automatically as grandchildren of a monarch from a male child but their parents said from the beginning they would not be using their titles.

Anne’s kid’s were not automatically entitled to the titles because they aren’t passed down by daughters. I think the Queen offered to make their father a Duke/Earl so they could have Lord and Lady titles but Anne said no.

So at this point George and Louis's future kids would be Prince/ess but not Charlotte’s.

The rules of primogeniture were changed around 10 years ago, and I believe Charlotte's children would have the same titles as the males.

Now the king needs to address the nation
and his brother needs to answer questions by law enforcement on his role in any trafficking and the sexual assault of Virginia Guiffre.

Oh for goodness sake, it's hardly a constitutional crisis is it? Andrew is never going to be king, so to treat it like the Abdication of Edward VII is a bit over the top.

Yes, Andrew should retire from public life and not receive state funding but he was born the son of a reigning monarch and should be entitled to stay a Prince

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 30/10/2025 20:29

A program came out fairly recently with all sorts of shocking money stuff like NHS hospitals paying rent to them think it was Chanel 5

They have known what he was like for decades. They took no action.

‘Knowing what he is like’ may not mean they knew the full horror Lownie alledges.

i mean, it was clear that, say, Russell Brand was a revolting creep but even i didn’t take him for a rapist and I loathe him.

Well, it is.

he’s an alleged sex offender. The queen spent £12m of our money to silence his accuser. He has lived off our money for decades, and is still going to be funded by the king. Why does being born into a family mean you can get away with heinous crimes?

The rules of primogeniture were changed around 10 years ago, and I believe Charlotte's children would have the same titles as the males.

The rules were changed to allow absolute primogeniture, but titles still cannot go down the female line.

As things stand, both George's and Louis' potential future children would be Prince and Princess, but Charlotte's would be untitled. Hopefully changes are made so that only direct line grandchildren get to be Prince and Princess.

Is the edifice crumbling? Shore up the edifice, quick!

Edited

Hopefully by the time they all settle down and have children the monarchy is a memory.

Just seen this on bbc news app

Andrew to move to Sandringham estate, funded by King

Breaking
It's understood that Prince Andrew will move to a property on the private Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

It will be privately funded by the King.

So he will still live in luxury in the bosom of his family with his rent paid

He can go to the big family Christmas now! No one would know as he'll be on the estate anyway.

Why? Why should he stay a prince?

i think that just changed rules about birth order and made a special exemption for Charlotte’s own title - it may affect George’s children in terms of titles - ie if he had a girl first. But I don’t think it did anything to address the non heir lines.

What I’f like to see is for Charles or William to change it so that only the children of the direct heir get these titles so that both Charlotte and Louis are in true same position.

Sneak in through the servants' entrance?

ShenandoahRiver · 30/10/2025 20:33

@CoffeeCantata
I didn't really mean the behaviour Lownie disclosed. More his attitude to staff, employees, reporters...anyone that he felt was beneath him.

H202too · 30/10/2025 20:34

Anyone else think Kemi Badenochs statement was a bit odd? Could just be me.

But the standards and expectations in society now are very high. People expect to see the very highest levels of integrity.

Very high not to abuse vulnerable girls. I mean....

Andrew Lownie said on some news programme there are more books by victims of Epstein due out in the coming months. He also said on the BBC this evening that there are more allegations to come soon.

I really hope not. Epstein is dead, so what exactly do his victims want from all this? Do people really want all this raked over?

Handy Andy Windsor.
No job too small or large.
Call for a free quote.

'Handy Andy' might not look too good on his van though...

Handsy Andy would be more appropriate

Ye. Until every single person involved rots in prison.

You think the passage of time erases the gravity of the crimes?

I just wonder if something is coming out soon in America; there has been a big push to release "the Epstein files" that supposedly contain dirt on Trump.

ShenandoahRiver · 30/10/2025 20:36

Are you actually serious @2010Aussie
Do you not think victims are entitled to be heard and vindicated?

I detest Andrew and he has no place in public life.

But - as a side issue, I do feel for KC (and William). KC has had an absolutely shit time since becoming king and the Harry issue, his cancer and now this scandal will have caused him so much stress.

I hope he can move on soon because all this isn’t going to help his health.

Totally agree.

CurlewKate · 30/10/2025 20:36

The significant bit for me is the mention of victims. Certainly suggests arse covering against the next public revelations. Looking forward to hearing Emily Maitlis.

Entitled to stay a Prince?! Why?! It’s all archaic dress up for the peasants - maybe the peasants don’t want to play anymore? 🤬🙄
